John Houston Anderson
ODESSA - "And then one day, I’ll cross the river, I’ll fight life’s final war with pain, and then as death gives way to victory, I’ll see the lights of glory and I’ll know he lives."
John Houston Anderson was called home to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, March 9, 2001, at Hospice House after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Jan. 29, 1929, in the Bean Hill Community of Oeniville in Bell County. He was the seventh child of Harmon Edgar Anderson and Myrtle Ada Menasco Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Nelda Jean Clark Anderson, his parents, two brothers and three sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Livingston Anderson of Odessa; two sons, Steven Jay Anderson and wife Nancy of Maypearl and Donald Lynn Anderson and wife Laura of Grandview; a brother, Floyd Anderson and wife Rita of Lindale; and brother-in-law, Wayne Clark and wife Margaret. He is also survived by two stepchildren, Sharon Bass and husband Byrnie Bass of Lubbock and Jim Hyde and wife Deene of Austin; and stepdaughter-in-law, Ann Fine of Dallas. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Brandy Sue Anderson, Steffanie Dawn Anderson Gansert and husband Klint Gansert, Barrett Anderson, Kayla Lynn Anderson and Houston Walker Anderson and a great-grandchild, Tatum Elizabeth Gansert. His step grandchildren are Rob Bass, Brett Bass, Lindsey Hyde, Shawn Hyde, Ryan Hyde and William Fine. He is also survived by a great number of very special nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, cousins and special friends, Dan and Donnell Doss of Weatherford, Dr. and Mrs. J.D. Cone of Odessa, Slim and Lorena Gabriel of Odessa and Jerry and Ann King of Cloud Country, N.M.
John retired in November 1992 from Vought Aircraft Co. in Dallas after 31 years of service and as a manager of facilities contracts and property administration. He was a mason for over 47 years and a member of Arlington Lodge 438, a charter member of the Scottish Rite, Fort Worth and Moslah Temple of Fort Worth. He was also a Navy veteran who served two tours of duty with the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1953, serving in the South Pacific and California. He was ordained as a deacon at Hillcrest Park Baptist Church in Arlington in 1965 and had also served as a deacon at First Baptist Church in Arlington, Fielder Road Baptist Church in Arlington and was presently serving as a deacon at Sherwood Baptist Church in Odessa.
John married
Mary L. Fine March 23, 1992, and moved to Odessa in 1993 soon after retirement and became a member of Sherwood Baptist Church, where he loved his pastor and pastor’s wife. He also had many special friends, Ladies 1 Sunday school class and many, many others. He served and loved the Lord with all of his heart and was a great witness for him. He was a wonderful, loving, caring husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 12, 2001, at Sherwood Baptist Church with Brother Thomas Hiser and Brother Jim Hyde officiating. Family and friends visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Galbreaith-Pickard Funeral Home in Weatherford. Interment will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at the Clark cemetery on the northeast side of Weatherford.
If desired, the family requests contributions to the Sherwood Baptist Church Building Fund and to Hospice House, 903 N. Sam Houston Ave., Odessa, Texas.

Kathryn C. Borden
ODESSA - Kathryn C. Borden, age 93, of Odessa, died March 9, 2001, at Parks Methodist Retirement Village. She was born August 10, 1907, in Hamlin, Texas, to Alvin and Bea Harrison.
Graveside services will be held Monday, March 12, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Elmwood cemetery in Abilene, Texas, with Rev. Bill Heggemeier officiating.
Mrs. Borden graduated from Desdemona High School in 1925 and then attended McMurry for two years. She moved to Abilene from Desdemona in 1928.
She married
Joe D. Borden in Abilene on April 5, 1928. He preceded her in death in 1984. She had been a member of the Abilene Women’s Club, had been active as a leader with the Girl Scouts, and was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Abilene.
She lived in the Lincoln Towers in Odessa, Texas, for the past three years.
Mrs. Borden is survived by her daughter, Kay Bramley of Odessa; two grandsons, William Dale Bramley of San Francisco, Calif., and Douglas B. Bramley and wife Melissa of Midland, Texas; and two great grandchildren, Kathryn Ruth Bramley and John Douglas Bramley, both of Midland.

Gonzalo Acosta Franco
ODESSA - Gonzalo Acosta Franco, 86, of Odessa, Texas, died Saturday, March 10, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital.
Services are at 2 p.m. Monday, March 12, 2001, at Assembly of God Templo Bethania with Pastor Manuel Hernandez officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill cemetery. Prayer services are at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 11, 2001, at Odessa Funeral Home. Odessa Funeral Home Angeles Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
He was born Jan. 10, 1915, in Santo Domingo, Chihuahua, Mexico. He lived in Odessa for 23 years. He moved here from Van Horn, Texas. He attended Assembly of God church.
He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of five children, Juanita Sanchez de Franco, who died in 1951; and his parents, Jesus Franco and Maria Acosta Franco.
He is survived by his wife, Maria Franco of Odessa; sons Efren Franco and Ruben Franco, both of Odessa, and Jesus Franco of Del Rio, Texas; daughters Maria Franco of Bakersfield, California, and Lupe Hinojos and Virginia Ruiz of Odessa; brothers Jesus Franco and David Franco of Chihuahua, Mexico; sister Irene Hernandez of Juarez, Mexico; and 22 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.
Bill Meadors
RANKIN - Rev. Bill Meadors, or "Bro Bill" as he was affectionately called, was promoted to his mansion in glory on Friday, March 9, 2001. He was born October 28, 1940.
Bro Bill had pastored churches from East Texas to West Texas, having been a missionary to Mexico for 17 years in between. The headquarters for the missionary endeavor was Chinati Ranch, Presidio, Texas, from 1976 to 1987. Bro Bill’s final pastorate was Faith Assembly of God in Rankin, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, E.G. and Ruth Meadors.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Phyllis Meadors of Rankin; sons Anthony F. Meadors and wife Tywilla Meadors, Nathan A. Meadors and wife Tiala Meadors of Odessa, and Judson G. Meadors of Rankin; brothers Louis Dale Meadors of Arlington, Texas, and Jim L. Meadors of Odessa; sister Helen Webb of Dallas; two grandsons, Anthony Forrest Meadors Jr. and Hunter Thomas Meadors, both of Odessa; mother-in-law Margery Taylor of Longview, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
"Don’t be sad, be glad, for I have just gone on ahead." His firm belief was a "merry heart doeth good like a medicine."
Services will be Monday, March 12, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Cornerstone Worship Center, 1821 East Yukon Road, with Rev. Johnny Storz and Rev. Paul Thompson officiating.
Graveside services will follow at Rankin cemetery at 5 p.m. Monday. Pallbearers will be Rev. Samuel Clemments, Rev. Jim Owens, Rev, Scott Sprouce, Rev. Dwayne Gryder, Rev. Gayle Reeves, and Rev. John Van Hoose.

Emma Holland Stewart Anderson
ODESSA - Emma Holland Stewart Anderson, age 86, of Odessa passed away March 10, 2001, in Odessa. Funeral services will be Monday, March 12, 2001, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with Mike Vestal of Westside Church of Christ in Midland officiating. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at 10 a.m. at the Raymondville cemetery in Raymondville, Texas.
Mrs. Anderson was born May 23, 1914, in Mountain View, Arkansas, to Charles and Elzura Holland. Emma was the last of their seven children. When she was a small child, the Holland family moved to Pawnee, Texas, where her father farmed.
Emma graduated from Pawnee Schools and attended Southwest Texas Teacher’s College in San Marcos. She was employed as a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse in Nell, Texas, where she arose early every morning to walk to school and build a fire before her students arrived. She later taught in Lasara and Raymondville schools.
Emma married
Powell Clayton Stewart of Hargill, Texas, on September 1, 1934, in Pharr, Texas. They moved to Raymondville in 1940, where they farmed.
Emma is survived by one daughter, Patricia Stewart MacAllister of Odessa; one granddaughter, Valerie MacAllister McClinton of Midland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Emma moved to Odessa in 1983 and became a member of the Tanglewood Church of Christ and the Eisenhower Church of Christ. She was an active church worker who visited new members and shut-ins.
Emma married
William Madison Anderson on August 4, 1989, in Odessa. She loved the outdoors, gardening, watching her hummingbirds and cooking for her family. She also enjoyed playing bridge, SkipBo and dominos.
Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by her husband, Powell Stewart, in 1972; her husband, Bill Anderson, in 1999; sisters, Eva, Daisy and Jewel; and brothers, Tom, Finus and Charles.
Arrangements are by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 2 to 4 p.m. today.
If desired, memorial donations may be made to Home Hospice of Odessa, which lovingly cared for Emma during her lengthy illness.
Edith M. Anderson
ODESSA - Edith M. Anderson, 77 years of age, passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at Odessa Regional Hospital.
She was born Nov. 2, 1923, in Little Rock, Ark. She married
William W. Anderson on May 14, 1967.
She is survived by her husband, William W. Anderson of Odessa; sons, Douglas M. Newton of Fort Worth and Clois C. Robison of San Diego, Calif.; daughter, W. Laraine McAlpin of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; brother, William C. Newton of Hot Springs, Ark.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. today, continuing from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday at Odessa Funeral Home. Graveside services have been set for 1 p.m. Monday, March 12, 2001, at Laurel Land Memorial Park in Fort Worth.
