Alma Virginia Laubhan
ODESSA - Alma Virginia Laubhan, 87, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at IHS in the Park in Plano.
Mrs. Laubhan was born June 17, 1913, in Jackson, Okla., to J.E. and Maggie Cochran. She met and married
Gustave John Laubhan Sept. 29, 1935, in Oklahoma. He preceded her in death in 1979. They came to Odessa in 1957. Mrs. Laubhan had worked for Westmoreland Sterling Silver where she was made district manager in 1957. She owned and operated Odessa Monogram for 25 years and did all of the uniforms for the Mojo football teams.
A funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at the Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. Preston Weatherly of Lutheran Church of the Risen Lord officiating. Interment followed at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Laubhan is survived by two sons, Richard L. Laubhan of Calera, Okla., and Jim Laubhan of Austin; a daughter, Carolyn J. Fulton of Enid, Okla.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Mary Martin
ODESSA - Graveside services were held for Mary Martin, 70, of Odessa at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Services were officiated by Mr. Jack Watkins. Mary passed away Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at Avalon Place.
Mary was born May 4, 1930, in Ranger to Ed Winchell and Julia Faye Hunt-Winchell. She came to Odessa from Wink in 1940. She graduated from Odessa High School and married
Don Martin in 1948. She was an office manager for Sanitary Lines and a foster parent. She was a Baptist.
Mary was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlotte Stedman; parents, Ed and Julia Winchell; and a brother, Billy Winchell.
Survivors include husband, Don Martin of Odessa; sons, Ricky Martin and wife Tammy of Midland and David Martin of Leander; daughters, Donna Pufal of San Antonio and Ashley Martin of Odessa; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Gene D. Reeves
ODESSA - Gene D. Reeves, 65, of Odessa passed away Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital.
He was born March 16, 1935, in Weldon. Mr. Reeves moved to Odessa in 1956 from Crane. He worked as a roughneck in the oilfield for many years. He was a member of University Park Baptist Church. Mr. Reeves married
Betty Carolyn Morton Jan. 6, 1956, in Carlsbad, N.M.
Mr. Reeves was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and three brothers.
Survivors are his wife, Betty Carolyn Reeves of Odessa; son, Donnie Edward Reeves and his wife Thelma
(Punkin) of Odessa; brother, Kenneth Reeves of Odessa; six sisters, Dorothy Talton of Athens, Texas, Sue Dodson of Irving, Tina Crenshaw of Irving, Patsy Rives of Texas City, B.J. Fritz of Kilgore and Connie Rogan of Newport Richey, Fla.; three grandchildren, Chad, Kari and Lexi, all of Odessa; and two great-grandchildren, Ryan and Amye.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. today, Feb. 13, 2001, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Johnny Witherspoon officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Ramona V. Soto
ODESSA - Ramona V. Soto, 51 years of age, passed away Feb. 11, 2001, at her Odessa residence.
She was born Oct. 20, 1949, in Artesia, N.M. A homemaker and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, she leaves her family sons, Jesse Soto, Martin Soto, Valente Soto Jr., James Soto and Joe Soto, all of Odessa; daughters, Maria Fuentez and Becky Soto, both of Odessa; brothers, Jose Villanueva of Seagraves, Domingo Villanueva of Denver, Colo., Gilberto Olivas Gonzales, Hijinio Gonzales and Miguel Angel Olivas Gonzales, all three from Ojinaga, Mexico; sisters, Sylvia O. Munoz, Maria O. Munoz of Odessa, Celia O. Lujan of Ojinaga; in-laws, Diana Soto, Enrique Rodriguez, Ramiro Brito and Jerimie Hernandez; and eight grandchildren.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Enrique Rodriguez, Miguel Angel Gonzales, Robert Martinez, Robert Munoz, Elizardo Lujan and Domingo Villanueva.

Mary Louise Felps
MENARD - Mary Louise Felps, 85, of Odessa died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, in Junction.
A wake will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. today, March 23, 2001, at Heritage Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2001, at Rest Haven cemetery under the direction of Heritage Funeral Home.
She was born July 9, 1915, in Hext to George and Lucy Moore Waggoner. She married
Jarrell W. Felps in 1933 in Menard. She was a homemaker and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Odessa. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jarrell Felps, and three sons, Johny Felps, Jarrell Wilks Felps Jr. and Sam Bob Felps.
She is survived by a granddaughter, Jenny Baker of Baton Rouge, La.; two grandsons, John Felps of Austin and Baton Rouge and James Shafer of Baton Rouge; great-grandsons, Garrett Beall and Justin Shafer, both of Baton Rouge; two sisters, Ruby Braly of Odessa and Georgia Tetley of Ballinger; a niece, Charlene Brown of Menard; and many other nieces and nephews.
Elizabeth Earnest
ODESSA—Elizabeth Earnest was born Aug. 30, 1902 in Junction City, Ark. to John and Viola Griffith. She died on Friday, Feb. 9, 2001 at Medical Center Hospital.
Mrs. Earnest was raised in Junction City, Ark. She met and married
her husband, Cecil Elmer Earnest, in 1925. He preceded her in death in 1970. Throughout their marriage, they lived all around Texas and New Mexico.
Her life’s work was her devotion to her family. As a child, she went to school in a horse and buggy. In high school, she played basketball and traveled to games by train.
She was a Presbyterian by faith.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Intermet will be at 1 p.m. at the Kermit cemetery with the Rev. Jimmy Braswell of Home Hospice officiating.
Mrs. Earnest is survived by a son, Cecil Earnest of Midland; three daughters, Betty Dolth of Garland; Gwen Bradford of Hobbs; and Linda Williams of Odessa; sister, Maxine Cottrell of El Dorado, Ark.; and seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Israel "Big I" R. Urquieta
ODESSA - Israel R. "Big I" Urquieta, a disabled Vietnam veteran, passed away Friday Feb. 9, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital.
"Big I" was called to serve his country in 1967 with the First Air Cavalry Division and was stationed in Da Nang. He was seriously wounded at An Khe on Feb. 12. He was hospitalized before he was honorably discharged. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Vietnam Campaign with Device 1960 Sharpshooter Rifle.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, the same day he was awarded the Purple Heart, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Burial will follow at Rosehill cemetery.
He married
Teresa Chavira in 1984 and was blessed with three sons, Arlo Chavira and his wife, Jessica; Steven and Alejandro, both of Odessa; twin daughters, Jacqueline and Jessica, also of Odessa.
Survivors also include his mother, Maria Elena Urquieta; one sister, Rosa U. Garcia and her husband, Paul of Odessa; one granddaughter, Alyssa; one nephew, Jesse U. Garcia; and his beloved 1955 Chevy.
He was an avid drag-racing fan and traveled long distances to attend nationals.
Pallbearers will be Carlos Roman, Jr., Reymundo "Sugar Bear" Gonzales, Joe Sanchez, Pete Cordova, Tom Llanes, and Elias Figueroa.
Honorary pallbearers wille be his sons, Arlo, Steven and Alejandro.

Francis Leo Anderson
HOUSTON - Francis Leo Anderson, 76, passed away Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at his residence in Pinehurst.
He was born May 16, 1924, in Odessa. He graduated from Odessa High School. In 1942, he joined the U.S. Navy and served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Hornet on a dive bomber. Upon his return from military service, he married
Helen V. Calhoun in Odessa. Anderson worked as a pilot and flight instructor until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents, T.E. "Shorty" and Mary M. Anderson.
Anderson is survived by his wife; a son, Ross Houston Anderson and wife Jackie of College Station; brothers, Harold R. Anderson and wife Nettie of Yuma, Ariz., and Eyster M. "Andy" Anderson and wife Ethel of Odessa; sisters, Mittie M. Davis of El Paso, Ida Jo Smith of Aransas Pass and Addie Belle Whitlock and husband Bill of Odessa; two grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, at Veterans Memorial National cemetery in Houston.
