Jewel Stella Harvey
CRANE—Jewell Stella Harvey of Odessa died Feb. 8, 2001 in Encinitas, Calif. She was born in Breckenridge on Nov. 3, 1913, to Sarah and Saul Smith.
Jewel graduated from McAllen High School in McAllen in 1930.
In 1931, she married
Clarence Cecil Harvey in McAllen, where they lived until 1970. They then moved to Gardendale, where she was preceded in death by her husband in 1980. Seven brothers and sisters preceded her in death.
She is survived by one brother, Otto Lewis Smith, of Kerrville, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her faithful friends and relatives gave her years of priceless pleasure, and that love was returned tenfold.
She was a loving and devoted mother to two sons, Vladimar of Encinitas, Calif. and Jim, and his wife, Kay, of Friendswood. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Nathan Harvey and wife, Cynthia Kay, of Texas City and Mary Kay Harvey of Midland. She truly felt her grandchildren were one of her richest rewards.
Jewel is remembered by everyone as one of the most loving and devoted of God’s servants. She was truly an angel here on earth as she will most certainly be in Heaven.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home in Crane.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bev Lambeth, Leroy Collier, Jim Reid, Chuck Peterson, Rayford Schaeffer and Nathan Harvey.
Burial will follow at Crane County cemetery where she will once again be by the side of her waiting husband and dearest friend.
Cesaria ‘Chaya’ R. Maldonado
ODESSA - Cesaria "Chaya" R. Maldonado, 55 years of age, passed away Saturday, March 17, 2001, at her Odessa residence.
She was born Feb. 18, 1946, in Las Calaveras, Chihuahua, Mexico. She married
Bernardo Maldonado on March 15, 1974, in Los Angeles, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Concepcion Ramirez.
She is survived by her husband, Bernardo Maldonado of Odessa; sons, Jesus Navarrete and Benny Maldonado, both of Odessa; daughters, Claudia Villa and Elizabeth Navarrete, both of Odessa, and Clariza Pineda of Corona, Calif.; brothers, Manuel Ramirez and Abraham Ramirez, both of Odessa, Conrado Ramirez of Santa Ana, Calif., and Antonio Ramirez of Ensenada, Baja Calif., Mexico; sisters, Maria Jesus Veliz of Coyame, Chihuahua, Mexico, Maria de la Luz Salinas and Elva Dominguez, both of Odessa, and Connie Torres of Santa Ana; and 15 grandchildren.
Visitation was held Monday at Templo Betania. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, March 20, 2001, at the church with Pastor Antonio Ramirez officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.

William Pettit
ODESSA - William L. "Bill" Pettit, 86, of Odessa passed away Friday, March 16, 2001, at Parks Retirement Village in Odessa. Mr. Pettit was born April 20, 1914, in Throckmorton, Texas. He married
Helen Grace Grover on May 9, 1937, in Seymour, Texas. He had attended John Tarleton University and Ohio State University. He worked as the Executive Vice-President of the Del-Tex Corporation of Odessa, Lubbock and San Angelo from 1936 to 1985 and served as the Director of the Ector County Senior Citizen’s Center from the early 1980s to the mid- 1990s.
Mr. Pettit had been a longtime resident of Odessa and served the community in many ways. He was a longtime member and Elder Emeritus of the First Christian Church. He received the West Texas Chamber of Commerce "Leadership Award" in 1967, the "Zeus Award" for Humanitarian Services in 1974, the Outstanding Citizen of Odessa Award in 1980 and the Roger Ozmun Award that recognized his service to his community and his trade organizations. He had been Past Chairman, Odessa College Board of Regents; Past President, Permian Basin Genealogical Society; Past President and Founding Board Member, Permian Basin Rehabilitation Center; 1977 Chairman of the Board and Past Director, Odessa Chamber of Commerce; Past President, Candy Wholesalers Association; Past President, Texas Merchandise Vendors Association; 1990 Director and longtime Board Member, Permian Basin Fair and Exposition; Past President, Texas Council of Mental Health and Mental Retardation Community Centers; Member of the Board of Directors, Texas Tobacco Association; and was featured in the 1973 volume of the "Men of Achievement in Texas," a Who’s Who in business over the state.
Mr. Pettit was a member of the Downtown Lions Club, Odessa Chuckwagon Gang, Board of Governors of the Globe Theater, Permian Playhouse, Board of Presidential Museum, Midland-Odessa Symphony, Permian Panther Booster Club and the Democratic Party.
Mr. Pettit is survived by his wife, Helen Grace Pettit of Odessa; two daughters, Sheridan Moore of San Antonio and Ann Hauber and her husband Tom of Houston; a sister-in-law, Lou MacDonald of Burleson; five grandchildren, Margaret, Alice and Bill Moore, Kevin and Katherine Hauber; and three great-grandchildren, Billy, Joseph and Erin.
Memorial services were held at 4 p.m. Monday, March 19, 2001, in the First Christian Church with the Rev. Dr. David C. Mindel officiating.
Honorary pallbearers were Bob Bryant, Don Blair, Davi Austin, Larry Carroll, Bill Elms, Louis Rochester, Dan Hemphill and Scott Taylor.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Permian Basin Rehabilitation Center, 620 N. Alleghaney Ave., Odessa, Texas 79761.

Concepcion ‘Connie’ Tercero
PECOS - Concepcion "Connie" Tercero, 77, of Odessa died Monday, March 19, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 22, 2001, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Pecos. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s cemetery in Fort Davis. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Rosary will also be said at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at Pecos Funeral Home.
She was a longtime resident of Pecos and moved to Odessa in February 2000. She was Catholic.
SURVIVORS: Husband, Jose M. Tercero; son, Steve Tercero and wife Aurora of Odessa; daughters, Mary L. Botello and husband Roy of Orange Park, Fla., Rosa De La O and husband Ralph of Odessa and Priscilla T. Ely of Odessa; eight grandchildren, Lorinda and Stephanie Tercero, Barbara and Diane Botello, Aaron and Vanessa De La O, Jesse and Joel Ely; and a great-granddaughter, Caitlin.
Wendell Weaver
ODESSA - Wendell Weaver, 61, of Odessa went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, March 7, 2001, in Odessa. Mr. Weaver was born March 19, 1939, in Henderson County and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He married
Carol Fortner March 7, 1980, in Odessa.
Wendell had worked for France Products for 15 years and Katty Industries of 17 years as an outside sales representative. Most recently, he was working for Safety Seal/Wesco Valve as the Odessa warehouse manager for the last five years. He was a longtime member of Immanuel Baptist Church where he had taught the Builders Class for 17 years and later he and Carol taught the Blended Family Class for four years. Wendell will be remembered as a devout Christian man, devoted husband and loving father.
Wendell was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Weaver, in 1978.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Weaver of Odessa; two sons, Paul Weaver and Dan Weaver and wife Kelly, both of Odessa; two daughters, Terri Everett and husband Charles of Odessa and Debbie Stevens and husband Scott of Brownwood; his mothers-in-law, Thelma Driggers of Clyde and Sally Fortner of Odessa; a brother, Larry Weaver and his Anita of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Betty Robison and husband Claude of Odessa; a sister-in-law, Marjie Weaver of Odessa; five grandchildren, Shatana, Don, Tanner, Annie and Nikita; and two great-grandchildren.
Public visitation will be held from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, March 8, 2001, with the family to receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Memorial services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2001, at Immanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Weaver and Terry Scott officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Gillham, J.D. Butler, Ken Hutson, Ron Adams, Charles Copeland, Larry Potter and Forrest Moss.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Joe Beene Benefit Fund or Hospice House of Odessa.

Josephine Henderson
SAN ANGELO - Josephine Henderson, age 73, of San Angelo passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at Regency House after a lengthy illness.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 9, 2001, at the chapel of Johnson’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Fuller of the First Baptist Church of Ozona officiating. Interment will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
Jodie was born April 20, 1927, in Gouldbusk to Forest and Maidie Buck. She graduated from Mozelle High School in 1946. She went to work for Dr. G.C. Yarbough in Coleman. She moved to Odessa and worked for Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator. She married
H. Ray Henderson in Midland July 21, 1951. She graduated from Aladdin Beauty School while living in Odessa.
Although Jodie and her husband lived in several West Texas towns, they left Odessa in 1965 to move to Ozona, where she was a member of the First Baptist Church. There they owned and operated the Whites Auto Store until they retired in 1989. They moved to San Angelo in January of 1998.
Jodie was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Thurman Buck and Leon Buck.
Survivors include her husband, H. Ray Henderson of San Angelo; her daughters and sons-in-law, Nikki and Jimmy Dunn of Lamesa and Melissa and Mike Gustin of San Angelo; her son and daughter-in-law, Forest and LaVerne Henderson of Odessa; her twin sister, Maxine Riley Stevens and husband N.E. of Odessa; her sister, Betty Miller and husband Arbie of Wingate; her brother, Foy Jack Buck and wife Buddy of Abilene; two sisters-in-law, Carolyn Buck of Coleman and Nadine Buck of Odessa; five grandchildren, Sabrina, Amy, Rachel, Rayanna and Mitzi; two step grandsons, Bryan and Chris; and three great-grandchildren, Trevor, Shayla and Kayli.
Jodie loved to be around people and her family. We will all miss her very much. Her family wishes to express their gratitude for the loving care provided by all her caregivers and family and also to the many people who kept them in their prayers during her illness.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Ozona or to Vista Care Hospice of San Angelo.

Joan Lee Ingram
ODESSA - Joan Lee Ingram passed away quietly Monday evening, March 5, 2001, after a short illness.
She was born Dec. 15, 1931, in Atchison, Kansas. She married
Wm. F. Ingram, May 24, 1951, in El Paso.
Since the 1950s Joan has privately tutored individual students. After working in several small schools, and Fine Arts Day Care and Kindergarten, she opened the Montessori School of Odessa in the Fall of 1975. She has touched many young lives over the past 40 years.
Joan is survived by her husband Bill; three sons and their families: Jules (Buddy) and Debbie Ingram of Houston, Steven Ingram and Clay Ingram, both of Odessa, and Tonia Chance of Midland; four grandchildren: Julie, Cole, Clayton and Sterling; cousins, coming from Glynn Ellen, Ill., Hobie and Ruth Mary Porter.
She will be greatly missed by us all.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. today, March 8, 2001, at the Lutheran Church of the Risen Lord, 21st and Grandview Ave. with the Revs. Preston Weatherly and James Otterness officiating.
