Rosary service is at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 18, 2001, at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel.
He was born on August 20, 1923, in Sanderson, Texas to Atilana and Isabel Ybarra. He fell in love with Eduvijes Jaquez and married
her on January 5, 1947. Being the risk taker that he was, he moved his new bride to Odessa in search of work and a willingness to start a new life and family.
He worked for the City of Odessa for a short time and then worked the remainder of his life as a cement finisher. He learned the value of hard work and dedication to work at an early age. This trait he has passed on to his children and grandchildren. Living far away from his own family, he quickly learned how to be a jack of all trades.
He built his own house on Laredo where he still lived and later had a hand in helping all of his children with various home improvement projects in their own homes. Last week he was still busy with some improvements to his house when he became too sick to finish his latest project.
Nardo, as his friends called him, was well loved and respected by all that knew him. He touched the lives of many people during his stay here on Earth. Family and friends poured into his hospital room to pay their last respects. He was many things to many people: "Nardito" to his wife of 54 years; "Daddy and Apa" to his son and three daughters; "Grandpa" to his 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; "Tio" to the nieces and nephews who always had to come see him whenever they were in the neighborhood or in Odessa; "Patron" to the couple he befriended when he first came to Odessa; "Shorty" to the men he worked with for so many years; "Tripitas" to his children’s childhood friends who still liked to go by there and visit; and "Sr. Ybarra" to the neighbors he loved and adopted as his newest addition to the family.
Nardo has gone on before us, but is now reunited with his deceased son, Israel Ybarra. He is survived by his wife, Eduvijes, and their three daughters, Irma Molinar and sons Paul and Jeremy, Irene Granado and husband Willie along with their sons Ivan, Zeke and Ryan, and Imelda Castillo and husband Mike with their sons Mike, Alex, Eric and Cory; his beloved and cherished granddaughters, Elia Goodman, Joann Ybarra and Yvonne Ybarra. He also was blessed to live to enjoy eight great grandchildren.
Bernardo lived life to the fullest each day. He had no regrets for what could have been or what he could have done. He never complained about the quality of his life or tried to live beyond his means. He was a simple man with good values, strong moral character and a winning personality. To those who knew him and loved him, the family wishes to pass on this poem:
"To Those I Love and Those Who Love Me"
When I am gone, release me, let me go,
I have so many things to see and do.
You mustn’t tie yourself to me with tears,
be happy that we had so many years.
I gave you my love, you can only guess,
how much you gave me happiness.
I thank you for the love you each have shown,
but now, it’s time I traveled on alone.
So grieve awhile for me, if grieve you must,
then let your grief be comforted by trust.
It’s only for awhile that we must part,
to bless the memories within your heart.
I won’t be far away for life goes on,
so if you need me, call and I will come.
Though you can’t see or touch me, I’ll be near,
and if you listen with your heart, you will hear.
All of my love around you, soft and clear,
and then you must come this way alone,
I’ll greet you with a smile and a
"Welcome Home."
