MIDLAND - George "Shine" Avary, 85, of Barstow, died Saturday, April 28, 2001, at a Midland nursing home.

Services are pending with Pecos Funeral Home.

Antonia Garza

MIDLAND - Antonia Garza, 75, of Odessa died Saturday, April 28, 2001, at Midland.

Services are pending with Martinez Funeral Home.

Caron Boen

ODESSA - Caron Ann Boen, 55, of Odessa, a leasing agent, died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Fern Knabel officiating. Arrangements by Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

She was born in Gorman and moved to Odessa in 1966. She was Baptist.

SURVIVORS: Husband, Ken R. Boen of Odessa; son, Dru Boen of Odessa; daughter, Kim Boen of Odessa; brother, James Knabel of Richardson; and two grandchildren.

Roy Brown

ANDREWS - Roy L. Brown, 90, of Brady, a retired contract pumper, died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, in Brady.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church Chapel in Andrews with the Rev. Robert Brasher officiating. Burial will be at the Andrews Old cemetery. Arrangements by McNett Funeral Home.

He was born in Tuxedo.

SURVIVORS: Son, Joe Brown of Odessa; daughter, June Williamson of Hamlin; brothers, Charles Brown of Galveston and H.V. Brown of Fort Stockton; sister, Geneva Neal of Balch Springs; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Judy May

HOPE, Ark. - Judy G. May, 82, of Hope, Ark., a retired oilfield secretary, died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Medical Park Hospital in Hope.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Shover Springs cemetery. Arrangements by Herndon Funeral Home.

She was born in Cabiniss, Okla.

SURVIVORS: Son, Jack G. May of Odessa; daughter, Carol May Hanson of Hope; and two grandchildren.

Otho Powell

ODESSA - Otho Robert Powell, 78, of San Angelo, a retired wrecking yard manager, died Monday, April 23, 2001, in San Angelo.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Martinez Funeral Home with the Rev. William Tatum officiating. Burial will be at Ector County cemetery. Arrangements by Martinez Funeral Home.

He was born in Franklin and had been a resident of Odessa before moving to San Angelo 16 years ago. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

SURVIVORS: Sons, Alonza Powell of Cedar Hills, Arlin Powell of Denver and Jerome Powell of Indianapolis; daughters, Helen Powell of Indianapolis, Bula Anderson of Los Angeles, Etta Hickson, Albertine Henderson-Powell and Gwendlyn Powell, all of Odessa, Carolyn Hickson of Dallas and Sheila Taylor of Temple; 35 grandchildren; and 46 great-grandchildren.

Roy Tomlinson

LAMESA - Roy Tomlinson, 78, of Lamesa, a retired route driver for Rainbow Bread, died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Medical Arts Hospital in Lamesa.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Second Baptist Church with the Rev. Clifton Igo officiating. Burial will be at Lamesa Memorial Park. Arrangements by Branon Funeral Home.

He was born in Pauls Valley, Okla., and moved to Lamesa in 1952 from Oklahoma. He was a veteran of World War II. He was Baptist.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Faye Tomlinson of Lamesa; sons, Kenneth Tomlinson of Fullerton, Calif., and Wayne "Pooch" Tomlinson of Eldorado; daughters, Velma Irons of Snyder and Jeanette Hollman of Odessa; sister, Nora Lee Snow of Perryton; brother, J.L. Tomlinson of Midland; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Anita Watts

MARFA - Anita Olivas Watts, 72, of Marfa, a retired waitress, died Friday, April 27, 2001, at an Odessa hospital.

Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church. Burial will be at the Catholic cemetery. Arrangements by Memorial Funeral Home.

She was born in Marfa. She was Catholic.

SURVIVORS: Sons, Ernest Watts, Danny Watts and Willie Watts, all of Marfa, and David Watts Jr. of Alpine; sister, Faustina Cortez of San Angelo; and nine grandchildren.

Robert Cushman

SARAGOSA - Robert W. Cushman, 78, of Fort Stockton, a retired roughneck, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, in Fort Stockton.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Feb. 17 at Saragosa cemetery. Arrangements by Fort Stockton Funeral Home.

He was born in Warrenville, Conn., and had been a resident of Fort Stockton since 1966. He was an Army veteran.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Aurora Cushman of Fort Stockton; daughter, Leah Lee of Eastport, Maine; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Hansford Freeze

MONAHANS - Hansford "Hamp" Lawrence Freeze, 91, of Monahans, a retired pumper, died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, at his residence.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Harkey Funeral Chapel with Bill Gaston officiating. Burial will be at Monahans Memorial cemetery. Arrangements by Harkey Funeral Home.

He was born in Mountain View, Ark. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Edith Freeze of Monahans; sons, Wayne Freeze of Walnut Creek, Calif., and Jerry Freeze of Monahans; daughters, Faye Nay and Gaylene Blalock, both of Monahans, Shirley Synder of Capitan, N.M., and Francis Rayme of Decatur; brothers, J.B. Freeze of Monahans, Grady Freeze and Ralph Freeze, both of Mountain View, and Thomas Freeze of Heber, Ark.; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Helen Mellard

BALMORHEA - Helen Mellard, 55, of Balmorhea, a teacher’s aid in the Balmorhea School system, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at a Fort Stockton hospital.

Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Balmorhea Methodist Church. Arrangements by Memorial Funeral Home.

She was born in Rotan.

SURVIVORS: Husband, Courtney Mellard of Balmorhea; sons, Damon Melklard of Balmorhea and Jimmy Melvin of Marfa; daughters, Mary Walker of Kress, Molly Mellard of Presidio and Dana Rice of Florida; mother, Bertha Gilbert of Snyder; and two grandchildren.

Clara Smelser

BIG SPRING - Clara Lee Smelser, 83, of Big Spring, a bookkeeper, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at Comanche Trail Nursing Home after a long illness.

Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Monday at Trinity Memorial Park. Arrangements by Myers and Smith Funeral Home and Chapel.

She was born in Roaring Springs. She lived in Big Springs for 50 years. She was Methodist.

SURVIVORS: Husband, William R. Smelser of Big Spring; daughter, Patricia Crow of Cypress; son, James Smelser of New Braunfels and nine grandchildren.

Jimmy Lee Gregory

ODESSA - Jimmy Lee Gregory, 69, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at his residence in Odessa.

Arrangements are pending with Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
