James Holman

ALPINE - James D. Holman, 80, of Alpine, a rancher, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at an Odessa hospital.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today at Elm Grove cemetery with Duncan Parish officiating. Arrangements by Geeslin Funeral Home.

He was born in Midland. He was Christian.

SURVIVORS: Daughters, Pat Holman of Hatchet Bay, Bahamas, Emmy Holman and Sissy Schoenfeld, both of Alpine; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Garland Lang Jr.

MIDLAND - Dr. Garland H. Lang Jr., 79, of Midland, medical director at the Midland County Health Department, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at Memorial Hospital and Medical Center.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church with Revs. Jerry Hilton and Richard Braun officiating. Arrangements by Ellis Funeral Home.

He was born in Somerville and moved to Midland in 1952. He was an Army veteran. He was Presbyterian.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Louise Lang of Midland; daughters, Margaret Lang Williams of Dallas and Jennie Lang House of Midland; sons, Garland "Gary" H. Lang III of Midland and Gregory M. Lang of Corpus Christi; brother, Dr. Robert H. Lang of Gulfport, Miss.; and seven grandchildren.

Walter McDonald

ANDREWS - Walter "Bub" McDonald, 78, of Andrews, a retired steam operator with Bass Enterprises, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at his residence.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at McNett Funeral Home Chapel with Larry Brewer officiating. Burial will be at the Andrews West cemetery. Arrangements by McNett Funeral Home.

He was born in Westbrook and was a resident of Kermit and Morgan Point before moving to Andrews. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Yvonne McDonald of Andrews; daughter, Connie Awalt of Andrews; son, Russell McDonald of Lindale; and five grandchildren.

Allen McFall

BRECKENRIDGE - Allen R. McFall, 51, of Midland, a lawyer, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at his residence.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home Chapel of Memories with Charles Kuhn officiating. Arrangements by Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home.

He was born in Andrews. He was Methodist.

SURVIVOR: Son, Aaron Robert McFall of Bedford.

Roberto Ortega

FORT DAVIS - Roberto Millan Ortega, 52, of Fort Davis, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, near Fort Davis.

Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Rick Ruiz officiating. Burial was at St. Joseph’s cemetery. Arrangements by Memorial Funeral Home.

He was born in Balmorhea. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Jo Anne Lara Ortega of Fort Davis; sons, Roberto Ortega Jr. of Fort Davis, Robert Hoyt Ortega and Sammy Coy Ortega, both of Brownwood; mother, Barbara Millan Ortega of Carlsbad, N.M.; brother, Salvador Ortega Jr. of Carlsbad; and sisters, Maria Luisa Riley of Carlsbad, Carolina Brijalba of Marfa and Lydia Payan of Odessa.

Consuelo Prado

BIG SPRING - Consuelo "Connie" Prado, 71, of Lomax, a homemaker, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at her residence.

Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. Jeremiah McCarthy officiating. Burial will be at Trinity Memorial Park. Arrangements by Myers and Smith Funeral Home.

She was born in La Feria and was a resident of Lomax for 35 years. She was Catholic.

SURVIVORS: Husband, Manuel Prado of Lomax; sons, Mario M. Prado Jr. of La Feria, Mario O. Prado of Corpus Christi, Jorge Humberto Prado of Lomax and Carlos Prado of Odessa; daughter, Martha Noyola of Snyder; brothers, Alfredo Fernandez of La Feria, Samuel Fernandez of Houston, Santiago Fernandez of Harlingen, Roberto Fernandez of Austin and Rodolfo Fernandez of Solena Beach, Calif.; sisters, Carmen Lozano of Round Rock, Berta Alvarez of Austin, Beatrice Archibeque of Bryan, Celia Escobedo of Rockport, Margarita Dominquez of Taylor and Josephina Castillo of Copperas Cove; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

SAN JUAN DE GUADALUPE, Mexico - Lidia Soto, 73, of Odessa, a homemaker, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at San Juan de Guadalupe Cementerio Municipal. Arrangements by Martinez Funeral Home.

She was born in San Juan de Guadalupe, Mexico.

SURVIVORS: Husband, Aniceto Soto of Odessa; sons, Manuel Soto, Pedro Soto and Martin Soto, all of Odessa, and Jose Luis Soto of Hickory, N.C.; daughters, Carmen Elena Guerrero of Odessa, Adriana Castaneda of Memphis, Tenn., Juana Maria Zamora and Claudia Bernal, both of Dallas; brothers, Antonio Adame of Torreon, Mexico, and Pedro Adame of San Antonio; sisters, Bertha Torres of Odessa and Felipa Adame of Juarez, Mexico; 24 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Wanda Swartz

ANDREWS - Wanda Swartz, 71, of Andrews, a homemaker, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at her residence.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Church of God with the Rev. Timothy G. Chenault officiating. Burial will be at the Andrews North cemetery. Arrangements by McNett Funeral Home.

She was born in Cushing, Okla. She was a member of the Church of God.

SURVIVORS: Husband, Herbert Swartz of Andrews; daughters, Linda Askins and Rita Ferguson, both of Fort Smith, Ark.; son, Bill Hooper of Andrews; mother, Helen Weemes of Andrews; brothers, Merle Willey of Brownwood and Bobby Willey of Midland; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

John Diehl

ST. PETERS, Mo. - John Leo Diehl, 87, of St. Charles, Mo., a retired maintenance employee in aircraft manufacturing, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, at Claywest House in St. Charles.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Bethel Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Jonathan Urshan officiating. Burial will be at Hawk Point cemetery in Hawk Point, Mo. Arrangements by Baue Funeral and Memorial Center.

He was born in Tipton, Mo. He was Pentecostal.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Mary Diehl of St. Charles; sons, Paul Diehl of St. Charles and John Diehl Jr. of Odessa; daughter, Mary Newsom of Moshan; sisters, Mary Kline of Silex, Mo., Clara Orschlein of Tipton and Margaret Bunker of Bustine, Calif.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Steve Dowden

HOUSTON - Steve Dowden, 72, of Houston, former professional football player for the Green Bay Packers, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, at his residence.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Cypress Creek Christian Church in Houston. Arrangements by Klein Funeral Home of Houston.

He was born in Natchitoches, La., and had been a resident of Odessa.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Dell Dowden of Houston; sons, Steven Dowden of Boston, Mass., and Paul Dowden of Houston; daughter, Donna Dowden of California, sisters, Elizabeth Harned and Margaret Stepp, both of Odessa, and Sue Burdick of Houston; brothers, Charles Dowden of Bunkie, La., Jimmy Dowden of Azle and Roy Dowden of Tyler; and four grandchildren.

Isiah Hernandez

ODESSA - Isiah Hernandez, 2 months, of Odessa died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, in Cactus.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Rose Hill cemetery with Angel Ferrales officiating. Arrangements by Odessa Funeral Home Angeles Memorial Chapel.

He was born in Odessa. He was a Jehovah’s Witness.

SURVIVORS: Parents, Roberto and Amanda Hernandez of Odessa; brother, Robert Hernandez III of Odessa; and grandparents, Rapheal and Leticia Lugo and Maria and Roberto Hernandez Sr., all of Odessa.

Reuben Payne

ODESSA - Reuben Desota Payne, 70, of Odessa, a retired hotel porter, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Martinez Funeral Home with the Rev. James Wallace officiating. Arrangements by Martinez Funeral Home.

He was born in Mart and had been a resident of Las Vegas before moving to Odessa two years ago.

SURVIVORS: Daughter, Viola M. Pride of Odessa; stepson, Eddie Berry of Odessa; brothers, Clyde Payne of Los Angeles, Murray Payne of Charleston, S.C., and Horace Wheeler of Waco; sisters, Shirley Ann Miller and Bonnie Ruth Mathews, both of Wichita Falls, and Cora Payne of Aurora, Calif.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
