TROY, OKLA. - J. C. "Red" Payne, 69, of Kermit, a self-employed trucker, died Sunday, May 13, 2001, at his residence.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at Baptist Temple Church in Troy, Okla., with the Rev. Richard Coffman officiating. Burial will be Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Troy cemetery in Troy, Okla. Arrangements by Cooper Funeral Chapel in Kermit.

He was born in Tishomingo, Okla., and lived in Kermit 50 years. He was Baptist.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Lee Payne, of Kermit; son, Jimmy Payne of Kermit; daughter, Janice Petty of San Angelo; sisters, Dorothy Clemmons of Tishomingo, Okla., and Veljean Sellers of St. Louis, Mo.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Rafael Porras

MONAHANS - Rafael Porras, 72, of Monahans, a retired grocery store owner, died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

Mass will be at 11 a.m. today at St. John’s Catholic Church, with the Rev. John Lucido officiating. Burial will be in Monahans Memorial cemetery. Arrangements by Harkey Funeral Home in Monahans.

He was born in Julimes, Chihuahua, Mexico, and moved to Monahans three years ago. He was Catholic.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Manuela Porras of Monahans; sons, Tzony Porras of St. George, Utah, and Jaime Porras and Omar Porras of Monahans; daughter, Nelida Porras of Presidio; brothers, Victor Porras of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Armando Porras of Ore.; sisters, Ester Gomez of Chihuahua, Mexico, and Concepcion Mendoza of Dumas; and 10 grandchildren.

Marjorie Rhoades

KERENS - Marjorie Alice Rhoades, 46, of Odessa, a waitress, died Saturday, May 12, 2001, in Odessa.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 15, 2001, in the Alligator cemetery near Kerens. Arrangements by Hubbard Kelly Funeral Home.

She was born in Lamesa. She was a Baptist.

SURVIVORS: Husband, Buddy Rhoades of Odessa; son, Johnny Paul Green of Odessa; brothers, Selvester Green of Dallas, Randall Green of Oklahoma City, and Jeff Green, Willie D. Green and Richard Green, all of Odessa; sisters, Betty Claybrook of Dallas and Lois Thornburg of Odessa; and one grandchild.

Jack Rogers

PECOS - Jack Howard Rogers, 82, of Pecos, a retired building contractor, died Sunday, May 13, 2001, at Reeves County Hospital.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at the First United Methodist Church in Pecos with the Rev. Bruce Abbott officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Evergreen cemetery. Arrangements by Pecos Funeral Home.

He was born in Wichita Falls. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and had lived in Pecos since 1944. He was Methodist.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Ruth Elizabeth Rogers of Pecos; daughters, Barbara Ann R. Lasater of Plano, and Rebecca Nell R. Patterson of Pecos; sister, Betty R. Scalice of San Diego, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Margarette Frankson

AUSTIN - Margarette Frankson, 82, of Austin died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at Gracy Woods Nursing Home in Austin.

Services are pending with Martinez Funeral Home.

Callie Barnes

BIG SPRING - Callie Barnes, 89, of Lubbock, a former farmer, laundry and feed store owner, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, in Lubbock.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Mt. Olive Memorial Park in Big Spring with the Rev. Bill Cook officiating. Arrangements by Myers and Smith Funeral Home.

She was born in Roby. She was Baptist.

SURVIVORS: Son, Jim Barnes of Odessa; daughters, Dorothy Cook of Odessa, Nita Hardin of Lubbock, and Peggy Cain of Midland; sisters, Grace Reeves of Murchison and Flo Ashley of Princeton; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Lora Brightwell

ODESSA - Lora A. Brightwell, 75, of Odessa, a retired day care operator, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sunset Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jim Ray Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Family visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Arrangements by Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

She was born in Minard. She was Christian.

SURVIVORS: Daughters, Debbie McNeil of Lindale, Cindy Shrum and Sue Rogers, both of Odessa; sons, Chris Frazier of Odessa, Jimmy Brightwell of Midland; brothers, Ray Brown of Iraan, and Clifford Brown of Fort Worth; and sister, Faye Yoakum of Houston.

Ruben Franco

ODESSA - Ruben V. Franco, 66, of Odessa, a retired oilfield pipeline painter, died Feb. 21, 2001, at his residence.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at El Divino Salvador United Methodist Church. Arrangements by Odessa Funeral Home.

He was born in Loving, N.M. He was Methodist.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Eva Franco of Odessa; daughter, Yolanda F. Contreras of Carlsbad, N.M.; sons, Ruben Franco of Odessa, and Daniel Franco of San Diego, Calif.; sister, Gloria F. Anaya of Lovington, N.M.; brothers Jose Franco and Juan Franco, both of Carlsbad, N.M.; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Bobbie Garland

IRAAN - Bobbie Garland, 76, of Iraan, a retired waitress and homemaker, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at Pecos County Memorial Hospital in Fort Stockton.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at First Baptist Church in Iraan with the Rev. Bobby Parmer officiating. Burial will follow at Restland cemetery. Arrangements are by Shaffer-Nichols Chapel of Iraan.

She was born in Mexia. She was Baptist.

SURVIVORS: Husband, Carter Garland of Iraan; daughters, Nicky Hooper of Dallas, Dusty Cain of Pearlsburg, Va., Dixie Thomas of San Angelo, Carlene Cahn of San Antonio; sons, Rex Garland of Fort Stockton and Randy Garland of Iraan; 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Charles Roberts

BIG SPRING - Charles E. "Ed" Roberts, 66, of Big Spring, a retired ranch and oilfield worker, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, in Lubbock.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Nalley-Pickle and Welch Rosewood Chapel with the Rev. Charles Day and the Rev. Ted Bostick officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Memorial Park. Arrangements by Nalley-Pickle and Welch Funeral Home.

He was born in Bell County. He was Baptist.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Jaye Roberts of Big Spring; daughter, Shirley Greenfield of Coahoma; sons, Charles Roberts Jr. of Odessa, Mike Roberts of Denver City, and David Roberts of Port Lavaca; brothers Amos Roberts of Sweetwater, Billy Roberts of Clifton, Raymond Roberts and Doyle Roberts, both of Hamilton; sisters, Leona Simons and Ossie Scott, both of Hamilton, Lorine Burleson, Polly Step and Linda Sue Yeats of Cransfill Gap; mother, Cora Maynard of Cransfill Gap; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Scotty Joe Fuller

ODESSA - Scotty Joe Fuller, 65, of Odessa died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, in El Paso. Services are pending with Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

L.H. Sims

ANDREWS - L.H. Sims, 77, of Andrews, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at his residence. Services are pending with Boyer Funeral Home of Seminole.

Norberto S. Rivera

ODESSA - Norberto S. Rivera, Sr., 74, died Friday, January 26, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital. He was a farmer and became a groundskeeper at Permian High School, retiring in 1995.

There will be no services locally. Funeral Services will be held this week at in Zaragoza with internment to follow at Cemetario Pancho Municipal. Arrangements by Frank Wilson Funeral Directors.

He was born in Zaragoza, Coah, Mexico, June 15, 1926, and lived in Odessa since 1982.

SURVIVORS: Sons, Norberto Rivera, Jr. of Mansfield, Jose Rivera, of Odessa; daughters, Janie Chavez and Irma Cardenas, both of Odessa; brothers, Pablo Rivera, Uvaldo Rivera, both of Olton, Rudulfo Rivera of Zaragoza, Mexico; sisters, Estella Valdez of Odessa, Erica Villarreal of Eagle Pass; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren.
