Edna Mae Whitefield
ODESSA - Edna Mae Whitefield was born Dec. 20, 1917, in Wingate to Tom and Lula Smithson. She graduated from Dalhart High School and attended Abilene Christian College, graduating with a home economics major in 1939. Edna Mae began her teaching career and then married
Melvin Whitefield on Aug. 23, 1942. After Melvin was discharged from the Army following World War II, they lived in Stamford where their first son, James, was born.
Melvin and Edna Mae moved to Odessa in 1949 where four more children were born: Ronda, Barry, Tom and LaNell. Edna Mae returned to her profession of teaching as a fifth-grade teacher at Zavala Elementary in 1963 and transferred to third grade at Reagan Elementary three years later. She retired in 1983.
Edna Mae and Melvin were founding members of the Parkview Church of Christ, and over the years they were also active members of other congregations of the Church of Christ in Odessa. Edna Mae’s most recent church home was Tanglewood Church of Christ where her funeral was held Monday, April 23, 2001.
The family wants to express appreciation to Ken Young and the singers from the Golf Course Road Church of Christ and to Dr. J.D. Cone and Lynn Money who spoke at the funeral. The family would also like to thank the caregivers from Community Care Hospice and the former Vista Care/Family Hospice along with the many others who provided assistance and encouragement over the past six years of Edna Mae’s extended illness.
Edna Mae was preceded in death by her husband Melvin on April 23, 1976; her parents; three brothers, Foy, Price and Lonnie Smithson; and three sisters, Bonnie Lewis, Cecil Mathis and Ola Bacon.
She is survived by a sister, Cora Newhouse of Searcy, Ark. She is also survived by her five children, 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to Odessa Christian School.

Lupe Velasquez Bullard
ODESSA - Mrs. Lupe Velasquez Bullard, 76, of Odessa went to the celestial mansion prepared by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (John 14:2) Monday, April 23, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital. She was suddenly stricken with a cardiac illness two weeks prior to her divine calling.
The Lord Jesus Christ brought Mrs. Bullard into the world as Lupe Anzaldua, born the sixth child of eight children to Mr. and Mrs. Ramon Anzaldua on Feb. 25, 1925, in Yoakum. It was in this small South Texas town that she grew up and gave birth to Gilbert Velasquez of Napa Valley, Calif., Mrs. Olivia Carmona, Ruben Velasquez, Israel Velasquez, Joel Velasquez, Rene Velasquez and Herman Velasquez, all of Odessa.
She later met and married
James Morris Bullard Feb. 19, 1960. The family then relocated to Odessa in 1963. Mr. and Mrs. Bullard had two sons, David and Hector Bullard, both of Odessa. She is also survived by the divine heritage blessing (Psalms 127:3) of 29 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Bullard was a prominent citizen of Odessa and was greatly loved by all who knew her. She was a dedicated employee of Fashion Cleaners for 38 years and an active member of Odessa Tabernacle Church for 10 years. A caring person with abundant compassion, she was a positive influence through her walk in the love of Christ (John 13:34, 35).
Although the family and friends of Mrs. Bullard will miss her presence on earth, they have assuring comfort that she now walks hand in hand with the Master on the streets of gold in heaven (Rev. 21:21), cherishing the face of her creator (Rev. 22:4). They pray that many others will come to know the same peace, love and eternal life in Jesus Christ that Mrs. Bullard found before her earthly departure (Romans 10:9, 10).
Visitation will be from noon Tuesday through 9 a.m. Thursday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Odessa Tabernacle Church with the Rev. Doug Herget officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Elva Juanita Braddock
ODESSA - Elva Juanita Braddock, 84, of Odessa went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 5, 2001. She was born April 27, 1917, in Lawton, Okla. She and her family came to Odessa in 1945.
Juanita was a homemaker who loved her work. She was a longtime member of the Parkview Church of Christ. Until she began to lose her eyesight several years ago, she was an avid reader whose favorite book was the Bible. She loved to learn and often read encyclopedias and dictionaries. She was truly a woman who "knew something about everything."
She was preceded in death by her parents, A.H. and Lydia Smith, and brothers, Lloyd Smith, Claude Smith and Andy Smith.
Juanita is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Sidney Braddock; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Chuck O’Connor of Phoenix, Ariz.; son and daughter-in-law, James and Callie Braddock of Odessa; five grandchildren, Amy Wood and husband Scott, Brad Waldrop and wife Karen, Scott Braddock, Sid Braddock and wife Krista and Shelli Presley and husband Erik; six great-grandchildren, Garrett, Grady and Griffin Wood, Weston and Heath Waldrop and Kaitlyn Braddock; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. today, May 8, 2001, at the Parkview Church of Christ with Ministers Charles Jones and Larry Roberts officiating. Interment will be at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland.

Luis L. Carrillo
ODESSA - Luis L. Carrillo, 55 years of age, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2001, at his residence in Odessa.
He was born June 21, 1945, in Alpine to Calistro and Manuela Carrillo. He was employed as a carpenter in the maintenance department at Sul Ross State University in Alpine for a time and also worked at several other part-time jobs. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a Catholic.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Manuela L. Carrillo, and grandparents, Hilberto and Bonifacia Luna and Anastacio and Josefina Carrillo.
He is survived by his father, Calistro Carrillo of Odessa; four brothers, Andres Carrillo of Midland, Jimmy Carrillo of El Paso, Rodolfo Carrillo of Canutillo and Calistro Carrillo Jr. of Odessa; five sisters, Gregoria Melgoza of Odessa, Juanita Luera of Odessa, Viola Valades of Round Rock, Dina Carrillo of Odessa and Mary Sanchez of Devine; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. today, May 8, 2001, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Rosary was said at 7 p.m. Monday, May 7, 2001, at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel.
Pallbearers will be David Alvarado, Daniel Ortiz, Ronald Bustamante, Manuel Carrillo, Donald Rowley and Horacio Garcia.

Jamie Klinke
ODESSA - Jamie Lee Ann Klinke, age 15, of Odessa went to be with God on Sunday, May 6, 2001, at her home.
She was born Feb. 5, 1986, in Tucson, Ariz. She came to Odessa in 1987, where she had been attending school. She was an eighth-grader at Hood Junior High. She was a member of Challenger Baseball League, hippo-horseback riding therapy, Camp Summit and dolphin therapy. She was a great fan of the Odessa Jackalopes hockey team.
Jamie was preceded in death by her grandfather, Donald Klinke, and great-grandmothers, Eva Klinke and Louise Augustine.
Survivors include her mother, Annette Klinke of Odessa, and grandmother, Marie Hegemuller of Missouri.
Services are scheduled for 5 p.m. today, May 8, 2001, at Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Griffin Jones officiating. Burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Memorial can be directed to Permian Basin Rehabilitation Center.

Shirley Joyce Marble
ODESSA - Shirley Joyce Marble, age 66, of Odessa died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at her home.
She was born Aug. 5, 1934, in Dallas to George and Theresa Beyer, who preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Hailey Marble of the home; three sons, Barry Marble of Fort Worth, Garry Marble of Houston and Hailey Craig Marble of Magnolia; a daughter, Greta Grubbs of Gilbert, Ariz.; three sisters, Peggy Clover of Garland, Roma Lee Brown of Marysville, Wash., and Janet Eileen Copeland of Fort Worth.
Shirley graduated as class salutatorian from Sunset High School in Dallas in 1950 and by 1952 had come to West Texas to teach dancing for the Montilla Studio of Dancing with her sister, Peggy. In 1953, she started the Shir-Lee School of Dance with its first public recital at the Odessa High School auditorium in June 1954.
At the same time, she met Hailey Marble, a Korean War veteran working for Parker Drilling Co. They were married
March 27, 1953, in Lovington, N.M.
Shirley’s pursuit of a dancing career was put on hold when she and Hailey started their family with twin boys in 1955 and finished with another son and finally a longed-for daughter. While the children were growing up, she continued with dancing as an instructor for Mary Anne’s School of Dance and later at the Lois Stone Dance Studio.
Mrs. Marble was also responsible for teaching many of Odessa’s youngest citizens while she was the dance instructor at Kiddie Kollege Kindergarten during the mid 1960s. When her own children were grown, she started the Shirley Marble School of Dance in Kermit and Fort Stockton. Her students would perform throughout the Permian Basin and on Channel 7 television. She said, "Why dance, if you can’t perform?"
Shirley was a member of the Odessa First Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she was involved in many assignments. Her favorites were teaching Sunday school and volunteering at the Family History Center were she helped people with their genealogy.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. today, May 8, 2001, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2011 N. Washington Ave., with Bishop Spencer Thompson officiating.
Services have been entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Joe ‘Handy’ Taylor
KAUFMAN - Services for Joe "Handy" Taylor, 92, of Kaufman were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Brent Gentzel officiating.
Interment will be held at 2 p.m. today at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa under the direction of Anderson Clayton Bros. Funeral Home of Kaufman.
Mr. Taylor was born Aug. 9, 1908 in Abilene to the late William Henry and Lillie Adline Taylor and passed away May 3, 2001 in Kaufman. He had lived in Odessa for 44 years before moving to Kaufman in 1983. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kaufman. He was married
to the former Aileen A. Jordan on Oct. 13, 1940 in Monahans. His daughter, Joyce Aileen Taylor, preceded him in death in 1959.
Survivors include his wife, Aileen Taylor of Kaufman; sons, Marshall Taylor of Mesquite and Curtis Taylor of Los Angeles; grandsons, Brent Taylor of North Richland Hills and Kris Taylor of Mesquite; great-grandchildren, Lane Marshall Taylor of Allen, mason Dean Taylor of North Richland Hills and Kacie Lynn Taylor of Allen; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
