Tony Volotko
ODESSA - Tony Volotko, 91, of Odessa, passed away Friday, May 4, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital.
Family visitation is scheduled for Monday, May 7, 2001, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Graveside services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Services are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Tony Volotko was a Seabee in the Navy during World War II. He came to Odessa in 1956 and married
Ruby Dale Cree on Aug. 18, 1979. He was a member of the First Christian Church, attended Rice University and belonged to various Veteran’s associations. As well as being a member of the Odessa Country Club, he was an avid golfer, loved animals, and was generous in his giving to charities. He retired from Mission Manufacturing after 32 years. After his retirement from Mission, he worked part-time for EMCO.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Cree Volotko of Odessa; brother, Eddie Volotko of Houston; sister, Mrs. C. Eberhardt of Pasadena, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Arturo M. Barragan
ODESSA - Arturo M. Barragan, 72, of Odessa died Sunday, April 22, 2001, in Odessa.
He was born Oct. 4, 1928, in Valentine. He was retired ranch hand and a lifelong resident of Odessa. He was a member of Buenas Nuevas Assembly of God.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at Buenas Nuevas Assembly of God, 505 Vine Ave., with Pastor Rosario Hill officiating. Prayer services will be at 7 p.m. today at the church. Burial will be at Rose Hill cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Liberata Barragan; and a sister, Delia Barragan.
He is survived by his wife, Maria Barragan of Odessa; sons, Arturo Barragan, Gilberto Barragan, Francisco Barragan, Cruz Barragan and Enrique Barragan, all of Odessa, Martin Barragan of Phoenix, Guadalupe Barragan of Morton, Arturo T. Barragan and Gilberto T. Barragan, both of Van Horn; daughters, Libby Barragan of Odessa, Hortencia Paredes of Austin, Albesia Maples of Junction and Margarita T. Barragan of San Jose, Calif.; brothers, Manuel Barragan of Indio, Calif., Pedro Barragan of Los Angeles and Gilberto Barragan of Pecos; 22 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be his sons.

Lawrence J. Kahlig
SAN ANGELO - Lawrence J. Kahlig, 84, of San Angelo passed away at 12:16 p.m. Sunday, April 22, 2001, at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo.
Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today, April 24, 2001, at Johnson’s Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at Cathedral Church of Sacred Heart with Father Maurice Voity officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary cemetery.
Lawrence was born Oct. 2, 1916, in Westphalia to Pius B. and Eleanor Kahlig. He farmed in San Angelo and the Vancourt area prior to moving to Kermit in 1967, where he worked for ARCO Oil and Gas Co. He retired Dec. 1, 1978, and moved back to San Angelo in March 1979. He was a member of Cathedral Church of Sacred Heart.
Lawrence was married
to Evelyn Hamann on Aug. 20, 1940, in San Angelo.
Survivors include his loving wife of over 60 years, Evelyn Kahlig of San Angelo; a son, James F. Kahlig and wife Norma of San Angelo; a daughter, Janet Harwell of Odessa; three grandchildren, Joy Foss and husband Kieth of Pensacola, Fla., Carol Blanek and husband Michael of San Angelo and James Brian Harwell and wife Tammie of Odessa; five great-grandchildren, Dallas Foss of Pensacola, Fla., James Brian "JJ" Harwell Jr. and Brianna Harwell, both of Odessa, James Delamater and Stephen Delamater, both of San Angelo; a sister, Olga Hamann of San Angelo; and a brother, Floyd A. Kahlig of San Angelo.
Pallbearers will be James Brian Harwell, Kieth Foss, Don Hunt, Doug Wells, W.D. Haire and Clay Hubbard. Honorary pallbearers will be W.E. Fine and Bobby Rowland.

Sofonias Nino
ODESSA - Sofonias Nino, 57 years of age, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2001, at Winkler County Memorial Hospital.
He was born Sept. 4, 1944. He was employed with South Texas Treaters as a sandblaster.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pablo and Maria Nino; brothers, Ramon, Manuel and Eliseo Nino; sister, Bernarda Zubia; and a grandchild, Brian Melendez.
Surviving are his wife, Maria Nino of Odessa; sons, Jaime Nino and Mario Nino, both of Odessa; daughters, Francis Nino and Veronica Melendez, both of Odessa; and brothers, Caleb Nino, Jeremias Nino and Jesus Nino, all of Odessa, Samuel Nino and Ruben Nino, both of Roswell, N.M., and Lazaro Nino of Ojinaga, Mexico.
Funeral services will be held at a later date in Ojinaga.

Lucia Beltran
ODESSA - Lucia Beltran, 66 years of age, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2001, at her Odessa residence. She was born Feb. 28, 1935, in Big Spring to Vicente and Francisca Mata.
Surviving are her husband, Guadalupe Beltran of Odessa; sons, Harvey Beltran of Odessa, Larry Beltran of Houston and Joe Beltran of Midland; brother, Celestino Mata of Anaheim, Calif.; sisters, Aida Orosco, Sophia Melendez and Yolanda Nick, all of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and grandsons, Timothy, Ian, Blaine and Zachary Beltran.
Visitation began at noon Monday at Odessa Funeral Home. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. today, May 29, 2001, at Odessa Funeral Home Angeles Memorial Chapel with Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.

Blanca C. Galindo
ODESSA - Blanca C. Galindo, 72, of Odessa died Saturday, May 26, 2001, in Alpine.
Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with the Rev. David Espitia officiating. Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. today, May 29, 2001, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Galindo was born in Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Jose and Justa Canton Lee. She was raised in Chihuahua where she attended medical school. She was married
and raised seven children. Mrs. Galindo and her family moved to Odessa in 1949. She was very active with St. Joseph and St. Anthony’s parishes. She operated her own business in Odessa for many years.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Martha Alicia Hudson July 16, 2000.
Survivors include five sons, Raymond Daniel Galindo of Tacoma, Wash., Tony Galindo and wife Mary of Odessa, Augustine Galindo and wife Janie of Odessa, Victor Hugo Galindo and wife Ana of Odessa and Omar A. Galindo and wife Lillian of Southlake; a daughter, Naomi G. Anderson and husband Jim of Fort Davis; a lifelong friend, Monica V. Manternach of Odessa; a sister, Elisa Morales of Delicious, Mexico; a son-in-law, Ronald J. Hudson of El Paso; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Ruth Hallmark
ODESSA - Ruth Hallmark, 76, of Odessa, a retired bookkeeper, died Sunday, May 27, 2001, at Hospice House of Odessa.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. today, May 29, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Johnny Pritcher officiating.
She was born in Winnsboro. She married
Rooks Hunter Hallmark June 9, 1947, in Tyler. She was the co-owner of Hallmark Watch Repair of Odessa and a member of Temple Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Betty Roberts; a brother, R.G. Garrett; and a sister, Evelyn Ericson.
Survivors: Husband, Rooks Hallmark of Odessa; daughter, Bobbie Parisher of Llano; brother, Adrian Garrett of Odessa; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
The family requests memorials be made to Hospice House of Odessa.

Ferril C. Brown
ODESSA - Ferril C. Brown, 79, of Odessa passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at his residence. He was born Oct. 27, 1921, in Kansas City, Kan.
He married
Jocelyn Lee Durrett July 3, 1952, in Fort Worth. She preceded him in death June 9, 1998.
He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was an insurance salesman and a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors are his sons, Guy Brown and wife Martha of Dallas, Joel Brown and wife Cheryl of Irving, Lee Brown and wife Delia of Joshua and Jay Brown and wife Laurie of Irving; and three grandchildren, Parker, Mia and Grace.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 13, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with a memorial service to follow at 10:30 a.m. at Hubbard-Kelly Chapel with the Rev. Sherry Holloman officiating.
