Allie Ruth Webb
ODESSA - Allie Ruth Webb, age 98, of Odessa was called home to the Lord Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at her residence. She was born March 29, 1903, in Allen County, Kan., to Charles and Lou Ella Boggs.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 13, 2001, at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2001, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with the Revs. David Weyant and David Ring officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Allie married
George O. Webb Feb. 14, 1923, in Wichita Falls. They moved to Odessa in January 1938. She was a longtime member of Highland United Methodist Church and was active in the Builders Class. She was a loving wife and mother who provided strength to her family and friends through the Depression and wars. Her perseverance in life allowed her to see the good in all things. She was a wonderful friend with a great sense of humor that will be missed by all who knew her. She enjoyed her grandkids, who were the apples of her eye.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George O. Webb, in 1978; daughters, Betty Jo Webb and Evelyn Grace Bills; and four brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by a daughter, Mattie Lou Melton and husband Don of Odessa; a sister, Dora Payette of Fletcher, Okla.; three grandchildren, Steve Tayloe and wife Marty of Odessa, Melton Bills and wife Barbara of Spring Branch and Terri Brown and husband John of Midway, Ga.; three great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Cleo Iris Gorum Haston
KERMIT - On April 10, 2001, beloved Cleo Haston passed away in her home after a lengthy illness. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2001, at the Kermit cemetery with Brother Emmett Upchurch officiating.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, April 13, 2001, at Martinez Funeral Home Chapel.
Cleo resided in Kermit since 1974 and was well known as an artist, teacher, wife, mother and friend by many. This lovely lady will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was a member of Belvue Baptist Church.
She was born the 11th of 12 children Sept. 3, 1921, in Boyce, La.
She is survived by her husband, Hubert Haston; three children, Delores Van Ryan, Malcolm Speight and Pamela Henegar; and stepson, Virgel Haston. There are 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and three siblings who also survive her.

Kevin Kyle Howk
AUSTIN - Kevin Kyle Howk went home to the Lord April 6, 2001. He will always be remembered as a survivor by the family and friends who bore witness to his courageous battle against cancer.
Kevin was born Nov. 29, 1969, in Plattsburgh, N.Y., and eventually made his home in Whitehall, N.Y. He struggled with illness throughout much of his life and was diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma in September 1999. Kevin was in Austin, with his family at his side, at the time of his passing.
No services will be held at this time. However, his ashes will be returned home to New York where a memorial gathering is being planned for early summer. Memorial donations in Kevin’s honor can be made to: Bethany Memorial Reformed Church, Cancer Ministries, 400 E. 67th St., New York City, N.Y., 10021.
He is survived by his wife, Tara Howk of Whitehall; his mother and stepfather, Molly and Marlin Gerber of Austin; his son, Michael Howk of Midland; his stepchildren, Andrew and Elizabeth Rivett of Whitehall; his sister, Jennifer Stout of Austin; as well as many extended family members and friends who love and miss him very much.
Lewis D. Holloway
ODESSA - Lewis D. Holloway, 76, of Odessa passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at his home. He was born March 26, 1925, in Vivian, La. He married
Marie Laden on Feb. 3, 1946, in Mount Pleasant. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He retired from Gulf Oil Co. He was a member of the Sixth and Jackson Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by a son, Larry Don Holloway; sister, Lurline Robertson; and parents, A.R. and Ada Marie Holloway.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Laden Holloway; son, Gary Dale Holloway and wife Katherine of Odessa; six grandchildren, Gary James Holloway of New Braunfels, Joseph Patrick Holloway of Tempe, Ariz., Lori Lynn Holloway of Ballinger, Brian Scott Holloway, Jennifer Michelle Holloway and Brandon Nichols Holloway, all of Odessa; and five great-grandchildren, Ashley Dawn Holloway and Dylon James Holloway, both of New Braunfels, Coleton Charles Dellaughter of Ballinger, Justin LaRoque Holloway and Faith Briann Holloway, both of Odessa.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today, May 17, 2001, at Hubbard-Kelly Chapel with Roy Smalling officiating. Interment will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2001, at the Nevills Chapel cemetery in Mount Pleasant.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons and great-grandsons.

Para ‘Pee Wee’ Burrow
ODESSA - Para Eugene Burrow, age 85, of Odessa, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital.
Pee Wee, as he was known to his friends, was born on Sept. 28, 1915, in Fayetteville, Ark., to Daz and Grace Karr Burrow. He married
Creonne Powell on April 20, 1940, in Hobbs, N.M. They came to Odessa in 1941 and were members of Chapel Hill Baptist Church.
Mr. Burrow was formerly employed, for many years, with Phillips Petroleum and later owned and operated Pee Wee’s Phillips Service Station. After retiring from the service station business, he went to work for West Texas Office Supply as a salesman.
Pee Wee was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 955 and was an avid fisherman. He was a very generous and unselfish person, always ready to help others.
Graveside services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, May 7, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jimmy Braswell of Home Hospice officiating. Services are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. A family visitation will be held at the funeral home Sunday night from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Creonne Burrow; a sister, Maxine Martin of Odessa; a nephew, Louis Edward Burrow of Odessa and a host of other family, friends and loved ones.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Lung Association or the Alzheimer’s Association.
Ryan Kale Holland
ODESSA - One special baby, Ryan Kale Holland, was born May 3, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital to Brian Holland and Emily Buchanan Chamness, both of Big Spring. Ryan Kale went to be with his Jesus on May 3, 2001. We only had you for a few precious moments, but you will be in our hearts forever.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa. Services were entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Survivors include his parents, Brian and Emily; grandparents, Phil and Karen Woods of Ackerly, Marla and Joe Hensley of Odessa, and Jody Buchanan of Odessa; great-grandparents, Harold Jordan of Odessa, Bill and Bonnie McKelvie of New Castle, and Edna and Dean Holland of Big Spring; and great-great-grandparents Edith Simmons of Snyder and Marie Cashen of Rotan.
Joe ‘Handy’ Taylor
KAUFMAN - Services for Joe "Handy" Taylor, 92, of Kaufman were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Brent Gentzel officiating.
Interment will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa under the direction of Anderson Clayton Bros. Funeral Home of Kaufman.
Mr. Taylor was born Aug. 9, 1908, in Abilene to the late William Henry and Lillie Adline Taylor and passed away May 3, 2001, in Kaufman. He had lived in Odessa for 44 years before moving to Kaufman in 1983. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kaufman. He was married
to the former Aileen A. Jordan on Oct. 13, 1940, in Monahans. His daughter, Joyce Aileen Taylor, preceded him in death in 1959.
Survivors include his wife, Aileen Taylor of Kaufman; sons, Marshall Taylor of Mesquite and Curtis Taylor of Los Angeles; grandsons, Brent Taylor of North Richland Hills and Kris Taylor of Mesquite; great-grandchildren, Lane Marshall Taylor of Allen, Mason Dean Taylor of North Richland Hills and Kacie Lynn Taylor of Allen; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Lois Nell Teplicek-Gardner
ALPINE - Lois Nell Teplicek-Gardner passed away April 6, 2001, at Big Bend Regional Hospital following an illness. She was born July 13, 1916, in Fort Madison, Iowa. She was the third of five daughters born to Mack Bartley and Iva Deets Titsworth. She moved to Texas with her family at an early age.
At age 15, she was salutatorian of her McCamey High School graduating class. She attended college in Lubbock and San Angelo with her older sister, Maxine. Maxine and Nell had a job singing on the radio while in San Angelo.
She married
Ludvik A. "Ludy" Teplicek in 1933. In the early 1940s, Nell, Ludy and their young daughter, Carol, moved to Alpine where they owned and operated a grocery store. A son, David Ludvik, was born in 1945.
In 1950, Ludy passed away. Following his death, Nell continued her education at Sul Ross in Alpine. She taught school for a time in the 1950s and 1960s in Sierra Blanca and Del Rio. She was the assistant administrator of the Alpine hospital in the 1960s. She moved to Del Rio in 1963 where she was administrator of Del Rio Nursing Home for many years. While in Del Rio, she was proclaimed "Citizen of the Year" for her tireless service to the elderly and others in the community. She retired in 1995. Upon her retirement, the Del Rio mayor proclaimed "Nell Gardner Day" in her honor.
She moved to Alpine after her retirement where she built a home near her daughter’s home in Sunny Glenn. She loved her "beautiful little house," and she loved the countryside around Alpine.
Nell is survived by her daughter, Carol Lewis and Billy Mitchell of Alpine; son, David Teplicek and wife Linda of San Antonio; and by her sisters, Maxine Wolcott of Albuquerque, N.M., and Gene Kidd of Denver City, Texas. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Nancy Nell Donaldson and husband Larry of Fort Davis, Scott Lewis of Odessa, Jeanne Novosad and husband Neal of Alpine and Susan Nell Teplicek of San Antonio; and her great-grandchildren, Betsy Donaldson of Iredell, Cory Donaldson of Corpus Christi, Logan Lewis of Odessa, Alex Almada and Erika Novosad of Alpine and Laura and Anthony Mena and Isaiah Arredondo of San Antonio. In addition, many nephews, nieces and great-nephews and nieces survive her.
Her parents and two sisters, Mary Bennett and Janice Nye, preceded her in death.
Nell’s name means "light," and she was truly a shining light in so many lives. She will be greatly missed by her family and the many friends who loved her.
Omar Lamar Kay
ROBERT LEE - Omar Lamar Kay, 81, of Alpine, died Saturday evening, April 7, 2001, while visiting in Robert Lee.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at United Methodist Church in Robert Lee. The Rev. Tom Garmon, pastor of Alpine First United Methodist Church, and the Rev. Jim Reeves, pastor of the Robert Lee United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow at the Robert Lee cemetery. Arrangements are made by Shaffer Funeral Home.
Lamar Kay was born Jan. 3, 1920, in Stephenville, Texas. During World War II, he served three years in the 36th Division Infantry of the U.S. Army. He served in North Africa, Italy, Germany and France. Following the war, he attended Sul Ross State College in Alpine, where he met Alta Bell Bilbo. They were married
Aug. 24, 1947, in the Robert Lee United Methodist Church.
Lamar received his degree from Sul Ross in 1948 and was employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Soil Conservation Service. He served in Texas SCS offices at Childress, Lubbock and Van Horn, then moved back to Alpine in 1952. He discovered an unclassified grass that still carries his name, Kayii. He retired in 1976.
Lamar was a life member of the American Legion Post 0079, the Disabled American Veterans of Texas and the Paralyzed Veterans of America. Following vascular surgery in 1987, Lamar was told he would never walk again. But, he proved them wrong and walked until the time of his death.
As a dedicated Mason, he was a member of the Alpine Chapter of the Grand Royal Arch Chapters of Texas, the Alpine Lodge 766 of the Grand Lodge of Texas, the Alpine Council No. 342 of the Grand Council and the Alpine Grand Commandry No. 90 of the Knights Templar of Texas. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Alpine, an avid fisherman, hunter and golfer, and he enjoyed his travels to many different countries.
Lamar was preceded in death by his parents, Omar C. Kay and Gertrude Kay, and one brother, John Sid Kay. He is survived by his wife of 53 and a half years, Alta Bell Kay; one daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Bobby Hungate of Waco; one son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Judy Kay of Andrews; one granddaughter, Kara Edwards of Waco; and two grandsons, Nicholas Kay of Andrews and Kayce Hungate of Waco. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Judy Kay, and daughter, Carolyn, of Fort Worth. Other in-laws are: Bob and Jamie Boren of Robert Lee, Jo Ann and Jarvis Littlefield of Grove, Okla., Janet Rathmell of Mertzon and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Tom Boren of Lubbock, John Boren of Snyder, Jerry and Rick Littlefield of Grove, Okla., Sandy Evans of Arlington, Steve Evans of Mineral Wells and Ben and Randy Bessent of Robert Lee. Honorary pallbearers are Jarvis Littlefield of Grove, Okla., Bob Boren of Robert Lee, C.D. McCollister of Alpine and Dr. Sam Little of Alpine.
