Altha B. King
ODESSA - Altha B. King, 89, of Odessa died Saturday, May 12, 2001, after a lengthy illness. She was born March 2, 1912, in Itasca to Millard and Nancy Blissit (Milford), who preceded her in death. She married
Gervis King on Aug. 16, 1930, in Bloomington, who also preceded her in death in 1964.
Before her retirement, she worked for the San Angelo Independent School District at the Central High School snack bar and moved to Odessa in 1986 from San Angelo. She was a member of the Baptist Church.
She was also preceded in death by five brothers, four sisters, grandson, Doby Venable and granddaughter, Traci Venable.
Survivors include her daughter, Evelyn Venable (Darrell) of Odessa; son, Robert A. King (Brenda) of Kerrville; three grandchildren, Vicki Peacock of Odessa, Shannon Minton of Kerrville and Brett King of Cedar Park; 10 great-grandchildren, Tony Mayhar (Courtney) of Stephenville, Margie Niver (Jeremy) of Shreveport, La., Pam Peacock, Matthew and Kourtney Jarrell, all of Odessa, Ryan and Jessica King, both of Cedar Park, Kevin, Tiffany and Joseph King, all of Kerrville; and a great-great-grandchild, Michelle Niver of Shreveport.
Public visitation was held Monday evening at Johnson’s Funeral Home in San Angelo.
Graveside services are scheduled for 1 p.m. today, May 15, 2001, at the Fairmount cemetery in San Angelo under the direction of Johnson’s Funeral Home.

Charles Royce Lankford
ODESSA - Charles Royce Lankford, 72, of Odessa passed away Sunday, May 13, 2001, at his residence. He was born June 24, 1928, in Harmon. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
He taught sixth grade at Dowling Elementary School. He retired after 34 years of service. He was a Methodist.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eldon and Inez Lankford; and a great-nephew, Christopher Harrison.
Survivors are his brother, Clayton Lankford of Austin; niece, Peggy Harrison of Austin; nephews, Eldon Lankford of San Diego, Calif., and Andrew Harrison of Austin; and cousin, Charles Emerson and wife Anne of Odessa.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Edna Cook
BALMORHEA - Edna Cook, 91, of Big Spring, formerly of Balmorhea, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at a local nursing home.
Her funeral services were at 3 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2001, at the First Baptist Church of Balmorhea with the Rev. Rick Moon of Toyahvale officiating. Burial followed at the Balmorhea cemetery.
She was born Dec. 21, 1909, in Pontotoc, Miss., to William Henry Haney and Fannie Cordelia Selman Haney. Her parents were pioneer Big Spring farmers coming to the area from Johnson County in 1925 when she was 16 years old. Edna accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior when she was about 12 years old. At that time, the family lived in Lillian. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Balmorhea.
She married
Marvin Otto Cook Feb. 16, 1929, at East Fourth Street Baptist Church in Big Spring after a Valentine’s party. They lived in the Howard-Borden County area where he worked on ranches in the 1930s. They moved to the Reeves County area in the early 1940s. They lived in Balmorhea and raised their family there. In the late 1970s, they returned to Big Spring.
Besides participating in her husband’s activities of farming, ranching and trail riding and being involved with her family, Edna was an avid flower and vegetable gardener. She also enjoyed bottle collecting and rock hunting. When Edna was 73, her interest in painting was brought to fruition by attending classes at the Spring City Senior Citizens Center. Her numerous paintings covered a variety of subjects and in 1984, five years after she started painting, she won first place at the Howard County Fair.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Otto Cook; a son, Otto Cannon Cook; a daughter, Fannie Wanda Stanley; two sons-in-law, James R. Stanley and Billy W. Bryant; a granddaughter-in-law, Mona Cook; a great-grandson, Jason De Ax; four brothers, Johnny Haney, Sam Haney, Myrle Haney and R.E. Haney; and four sisters, Vio Haney, Anna Haney, Thelma White and Ivy Summers.
She is survived by two sons, Pecos Cook and his wife Elizabeth of Balmorhea and Jack D. Cook and his wife Sherry of Odessa; four daughters, Juanita Rogers and her husband John of Lubbock, Dolly Bryant of Big Spring, Vera Martin and her husband Benny of Big Spring and Maggie Linda Armstead and her husband Charles of Levelland; a brother, Edward Haney of Carlsbad, N.M.; two sisters, Opal Barber and Vera Peterson, both of Big Spring; 24 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Truman C. ‘Johnny’ Walker
ODESSA - T. C. "Johnny" Walker, age 81, of Odessa, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born November 22, 1919, in Eastland County to Joseph Franklin Walker and Lovidy Eugene Melton Walker as the fifth of six children.
Memorial services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, May 14, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Chapel in Odessa under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Mr. Walker graduated from Loraine High School and spent two years playing football for McMurray College in Abilene before enlisting in the Army Air Force. Mr. Walker served his country during the European Campaign of World War II, served his community as a masonry contractor for 35 years, served his community as a youth baseball coach, and served his community as a Webelo scout leader. He attended Highland United Methodist Church and was a lifetime member of the V.F.W.
He married
Louise Hallmark on July 20, 1946, in Sweetwater. They moved to Odessa in February 1948 to raise one son, David Randall Walker of Sanford, N.C., and one daughter, Becky Walker Stanford of Odessa. They were rewarded with two granddaughters, Jordan Walker of Sanford, N.C., and Allison Wendt of Odessa, two of the brightest stars in Mr. Walker’s eyes.
Mr. Walker was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Norvan Pierson Walker, Esley Olen Walker, and Kenneth Chester Walker, and one sister, Euva Walker.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 55 years, Louise. Also, his son and daughter, and his precious granddaughters, and his sister Alene Martin of Snyder.
Memorials can be made in lieu of flowers to American Heart Association in honor of T. C. "Johnny" Walker.
Marty Johnson
ODESSA - Marty Johnson, 44, passed away Friday, May 11, 2001, at his residence in Odessa. He was born April 30, 1957, to L.J. and Rowena Johnson in Abilene. His father, L.J., and sister, Sandra Wager, preceded him in death.
Marty moved to Odessa in 1980 from Pecos. He married
Lisa Woods on September 6, 1990, in Odessa, and was the shop foreman at Big Tex Trailers for three years. He worked for Beckner’s Chevron station for several years and also served in the Air Force. Marty attended Northside Baptist Church.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at the Sunset Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include his wife, Lisa Johnson, of Odessa; son, Adam Johnson of Beaumont, Calif.; daughter, Marisa Johnson of Odessa; mother, Rowena Johnson of Bryan-College Station; brothers, Butch Johnson of Mineral Wells and Tracy Johnson of Bryan-College Station; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and other loving friends.
Arrangements are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Kelly S. Kennedy
ODESSA - Kelly S. Kennedy, 33, of Odessa, died Thursday, May 10, 2001 at his residence. He was born December 12, 1967, in Odessa.
Before his accident in January of 1997, he was a stockbroker for Ron Clifton Investments and a journeyman bladesmith. He attended Odessa College and the William F. Moran School of Bladesmithing in Hope, Arkansas, and was featured in Knives magazine and several other publications for his artistic work with knives.
He won several awards at the Permian Basin Expo and the Ellen Noel Art Museum. Kelly held a Black Belt rank of Fourth Dan in Hanto-Ryu Martial Arts. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, archery, computers, and reading.
He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and Past Faithful Navigator Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree.
"Every man dies, not every man lives." If there ever was a brave heart, it was Kelly. Despite terrible, extensive injuries, pain and injury from an auto accident, his beautiful heart showed through. He always had a big smile or a kind word to everyone he met.
Kelly was the ultimate best friend. He touched so many lives in his short time with us. Kelly really did live his life to the fullest. He was preceded in death by his great grandmother, Ethel "Biggie" Rector, and his grandfather, Lyle Wayne Williams.
Survivors include his mother, Susan Kennedy, grandmother Johnnie Williams, and great grandfather Lee Rector, all of Odessa, and step grandmother Pearl Williams of Bedford. He is also survived by great uncle Dan Sikes and his wife Mary of Anson; uncles Gary Williams and wife Jodi of Grapevine, and Michael Williams and wife Marie of San Diego, Calif.; aunt Rhonda Zielinski and husband Dr. Mark of Baton Rouge, La.; special cousin Noel Shackleford of Austin; many other cousins and aunts and uncles; childhood friend Donald Mathis of Odessa; and goddaughter Aliyah Saenz of Arlington.
Kelly is also survived by his godparents, H.D. and Opal Self of Odessa, and Joseph and Kay Cordova of Bosque Farms, N.M.
Rosary was said Saturday, May 12, 2001, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, May 14, 2001, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church with the Revs. Mark Woodruff and James P. Bridges con-celebrants. Interment will follow in Ector County cemetery.

Margie Davis
ODESSA - Margie Davis, 65, of Odessa passed away Sunday, April 29, 2001, at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston. She was born Sept. 12, 1935, in Paul, Ala. She moved to Odessa in 1971 from Houston.
Margie married
Milton Davis on Nov. 19, 1960, in Houston. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and a loving wife and mother.
She is survived by her husband, Milton Davis of Odessa; daughters, Deborah Vanley and husband Damon of Midland and Laurie Schlehuber and husband Mark of Odessa; mother, Verdell Turner of Conroe; brothers, Mike Turner of Houston, Royce Turner of Conroe and Thomas Turner of Spring; and sisters, Dorothy Goodwin of Conroe and Louise James of Brewton, Ala.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Watkins officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Adean B. Glover
ODESSA - Adean Betty Glover, a resident of Terrell, passed away April 28, 2001, at a Dallas hospital. The daughter of the late James Willis Brumley and Viola O’Mega Sanders Brumley, she was born May 1, 1924, in Jean. Mrs. Glover was married
to Robert Henry Glover on March 1, 1947, and Mr. Glover preceded her in death March 16, 1998.
Surviving are her two sons, Bobby Glover of Terrell and Danny Glover of Wylie; her daughter, Dianne Rackley of Tuttle, Okla.; two sisters, her twin, Adelle Bolling and Sealey Clayton of Jean; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 30, 2001, at the chapel of Goggans Funeral Home of Terrell with Danny Glover officiating. Graveside services are scheduled at 2 p.m. today, May 1, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa.
