Thomas E. 'Ed' Shaver
ODESSA — Thomas E. “Ed” Shaver was born Aug. 30, 1928, in Dallas to Herbert T. and Rosie Shaver. He married
Billie Montgomery on Oct. 27, 1946, in Rockwall. He went to be with his Lord and Savior on Oct. 23, 2001.
He had three brothers who preceded him in death, H.T., Palmer and Clifford.
Ed was in the automotive parts and paints industry for 50 years, retiring as owner of Economy Auto Parts and Paints. He had a great sense of humor and delighted in making people laugh, especially his family. Ed asked Jesus into his life in 1952 at Second Baptist Church and was baptized at First Baptist Church in Odessa. He loved his family, his church, First Baptist, his Christian friends and most of all, his Lord and Savior.
Ed is survived by his wife of 55 years, Billie; son, Billy Ed and wife Julia of China Spring; daughter, Teri of El Paso; “adopted” son, James Goodner and wife Cynthia of Rochester, Minn.; a brother, Roy Shaver and his wife Barbara of Odessa; and sister, Norma Chambers of Garland. He was “Paw Paw” to Jeremy Shaver of Waco, Kristie Kwan and husband Aaron of Austin and Alexander and Sophia Goodner. He adored and was adored by numerous nieces and nephews and his special brother-in-law, Claude Montgomery and wife Bobbie of Wylie.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, 2001, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Ernest Easley officiating.

Minnie Lee Perry
ODESSA — Minnie Lee Perry, 64, of Odessa passed away Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at her residence. She was born Nov. 7, 1936, in Farmerville, La.
Mrs. Perry moved to Odessa in 1972. She was a longtime employee of T&L Grocery & AM Van Line. She was a member of University Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by a son, Toby Burns in 1996.
She is survived by a son, James Paul Burns of Gatesville; daughters, Cathy Steadham of Odessa and Kim Hernandez of San Antonio; brothers, Mack Bearden, Vaughn Bearden and Bobby Bearden, all of Farmerville, La.; sister, Audrey Brooks of Pinebluff, Ark.; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and former husband, Clyde Benford of Soddy Daisy, Tenn.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with Robbie Van Stavern officiating.

Ray Yancey
CRANE — Ray Yancey, 81, of Odessa, and formerly of Crane, died on Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, at Odessa Hospice House.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, at the Crane County cemetery with the Rev. David Howard officiating. Services are under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.
Mr. Yancey was born to Carl and Fannie Hughey Yancey on March 23, 1920, in Emory, Texas. He married
Lila Lee Earp on March 23, 1943. in Crane. He was a World War II Air Force veteran. He was a lease operator for Mobile Oil Company for 31 years in Crane and Midland before his retirement. He was a member of the West Odessa First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Carolyn Raye Yancey-Bostwick on Nov. 25, 1991, a brother, Alvin D. Yancey, and a sister, Rubye Robinson.
Survivors include his wife, Lila Yancey, of Odessa; a son, Bryan Lee Yancey and his wife, Becky, of Odessa; three grandchildren, John Cal Bostwick, of Frisco, Texas, Sonya Renee Bostwick Northcott, of Midland and Kevin Wayne Yancey, of Odessa; four great-grandchildren, Courtney Leigh Bostwick and Devyn Cole Bostwick, both of Frisco, and Kolton Evan Cotton and Kade Rance Cotton, both of Midland; and two sisters, Bessie Mae Crofford and Mozell Mitchell, both of Lone Oak, Texas.

Joyce Mearl Newman Alexander
MT. PLEASANT — Joyce Mearl Newman Alexander passed away Friday, Oct. 12, 2001 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, after a long battle against emphysema.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15 at Bates-Cooper Funeral Home Chapel in Mt. Pleasant, Texas.
Joyce was born on Sept. 29, 1935, to Omar Tandy Newman and Allie Mae Brownlee Newman in Titus County, Texas. Joyce worked as a product demonstrator at Wal-Mart in Odessa until her illness prevented it. Before moving to Odessa, Joyce lived in Andrews. In Andrews, she worked at B&J Cafe and Kirby Vacuum.
A beloved mother, grandmother, mother-in-law and friend, Joyce loved her family. She would always talk about her family when someone visited. She also got joy after her illness progressed by sitting outside watching the hummingbirds feed at the many feeders they had at home.
Her parents, O.T. and Allie Newman, preceded her in death.
This Scripture will sustain those who Joyce left behind: Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases. Psalm 103: 2-3.
Survivors: Sons, Jerry T. Alexander and his wife, Madaleine, of Odessa, Ricky Alexander and his wife, Rhonda of Tokio, Texas; grandchildren, Jason and Ryan Alexander of Odessa, Zane and Jacob Alexander of Tokio, Jennifer Anklam and her husband, Thomas of Victoria; brother, Fred Newman and his wife, Rachel, of Rowlett, Texas; nephews, Byron Newman and his wife, Michelle, Kyle Newman and his wife, Jennifer; also two great nieces and a great nephew, plus numerous friends and acquaintances.

Helen Lewis McMahon
ODESSA — Helen Lewis McMahon, of Midland passed away Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, at the Hospice House in Odessa. She was born Jan. 7, 1907, in Itasca to Emma and Steve Lewis.
She married
Fred McMahon on Jan. 31, 1934, in Itasca. They moved to the Permian Basin in 1946 from Beaumont. She worked in sales for 40 years before retiring from Rays Big and Tall in 1985.
Her husband, Fred, two brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.
Helen is survived by a son, Freddie McMahon and his wife Joann of Odessa, Lewis McMahon of Midland; a daughter, Marsha Herrin of Midland; a sister, Jean Nicodemus of Knoxville, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Doug Herrin, Donna Mitchell, Kaci Lankford, Mark McMahon, and Tonya McMahon; and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are scheduled at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jerry Erwin of Second Baptist Church of Midland officiating.
Services are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
James Michael Seebach
ODESSA — James Michael Seebach, 60, of Odessa passed away Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born Oct. 13, 1941, in Akron, Ohio. He moved to Odessa in 1979 from Midland and married
Sandra Jo McCoy on Feb. 14, 1981, in Odessa. Mr. Seebach was a master optician certified by the American Board of Opticianry. He was a fellow of the National Academy of Opticians and vice president of the Texas Ophthamalic Professionals Society. He was the owner of Town and Country Optical for 12 years.
He was a member of Highland United Methodist Church and had served in many capacities through the years. He was a member of the Odessa Downtown Lions Club and served on its board of directors. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors are his wife, Sandra Jo Seebach of Odessa; a son, Matt Seebach and his wife Trina of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two daughters, Lynda Menapace of El Paso and Tonya Neal and husband Donny of Odessa; a brother, John David Seebach of El Paso; a sister, Kristine LeClair of Alamogordo, N.M.; and five grandchildren, Stephen, Samantha, Faith, Meghan and Luke.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, Dec. 8, 2001, at Highland United Methodist Church with Dr. Mark Scott and the Rev. David Weyant officiating. Military graveside services will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Annette Smith Spinks
ODESSA — Annette Smith Spinks was born Dec. 23, 1916, in Mission to Andy and Lena Smith. She died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital.
She became a Christian at the age of 12 at First Baptist Church in Kingsville. After completing high school in Kingsville, she attended Drawghns Business School in Houston. She worked for Missouri Pacific Railroad as a secretary. Annette met and married
Leroy Francis Spinks on Dec. 22, 1939, in Harlingen. She lived at 4907 Pepperidge in Odessa for 21 years. She had resided at Sherwood Place for the last year and a half where she participated in most activities and made many wonderful friends. Annette was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and was an avid reader and a talented china painter. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 8, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Dr. Ernest Easley officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Three brothers, Robert Smith, Howard Smith and Eugene Smith, and a daughter preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Leroy Spinks of Odessa; daughters, Susan Najjar and husband Ali of Odessa, Sidney Hammontre and husband Tom of Rio Rancho, N.M., and Josephine Mariani of San Jose, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Adam Najjar of Odessa and Alia Najjar of Dallas.

Thomas Doyle Carpenter Jr.
MIDLAND — Thomas Doyle Carpenter Jr. passed away Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at Midland Memorial Hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today, Oct. 11, 2001, at Pipkin Chapel with Masonic Lodge No. 623 and Eastern Star Chapter No. 253 conducting the service. Graveside and burial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at Mason cemetery in Arp, Texas, with Masonic Canton Lodge No. 98 officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Pipkin Funeral Home and Chapel.
Thomas was born May 13, 1937, in Arp to Thomas D. Sr. and Pearlie Mae Davis Carpenter. He married
Verla Shipp Spaw on June 12, 1993, at First Methodist Church in Midland. He was a Baptist and a member of Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler. He was a mason for over 40 years with dual membership at Canton Lodge No. 98 in Arp and Midland No. 623. He was junior past patron of Chapter No. 253 in Midland, Order of the Eastern Star and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Verla Carpenter of Midland; daughters, Margaret and husband Mitch Namendorf of San Antonio, Catherine and husband John Trankovich of Irmo, S.C., and Cynthia and husband Mickey Colomb of Farmington, N.M.; sons, Robert Spaw Jr. and wife Marina of Palacios and Steven Spaw and wife Jackie of Houston; sister, Neta Parish and husband Billy of Arp; aunts, Nell Davis of Odessa and Evelyn Davis of Overton; 13 grandchildren; and several cousins and aunts from the Odessa and Tyler areas.
The family would like to give special thanks to Thomas’s many caregivers during his recent illness.
