Edith M. Stout
ODESSA — Edith M. Stout, 74, of Odessa passed away at Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born April 28, 1927, to Leonard and Emma Fulkerson in Chicago, Ill.
Edith married
Brady Stout on Aug. 12, 1944, in Chicago. They came to Odessa in 1951 from Hobbs, N.M. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary 4372 and the Rebekahs. She enjoyed ceramics, gardening and cooking cakes for organizations such as the Cancer Center and the Veterans Administration to assist in their fund-raisers.
Survivors include her husband, Brady Stout of Odessa; son, Robert J. Stout of Odessa; daughters, Karen Kirkwood of Odessa and Sondra Junginger of San Angelo; brother, Howard Artese of Phoenix, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Chapel with Herbert Stout officiating assisted by Dennis Stout. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
The family requests memorials to American Cancer Society and VFW Auxiliary Post 4372.

Nicolas F. Lopez
FORT STOCKTON — Nicolas F. Lopez, 80 years old, of Fort Stockton passed away Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001, at Pecos County Memorial Hospital in Fort Stockton. He was born Sept. 10, 1921, in Terlingua. He married
Juliana Flores on Oct. 13, 1941, in Terlingua. He served in the Army during World War II.
Nicolas was an active member of St. Joseph’s Parish, presiding over the Holy Name Society for several years while raising funds for St. Joseph’s Hall. He served in various capacities including as lector, usher, Eucharistic minister and musician for the Spanish choir through the years. His favorite pastimes were playing his guitar, gardening and barbecuing. Nicolas loved outings with family and friends. A stranger to none, he would lend a helping hand to all with a smile.
Mr. Lopez is survived by his wife, Juliana Lopez of Fort Stockton; three daughters, Paula Dominguez and Estefana Martinez of Fort Stockton, and Delma Brennan and husband Michael of Plano; three sons, Dario Lopez and wife Mary of Odessa, Ernesto and wife Irene and Ray Lopez and wife Margie of Fort Stockton; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 10, 2001, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Tom Barley officiating. Interment will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic cemetery. Fort Stockton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Iva Lee Williams Stewart
TYLER — Services for Iva Lee Williams Stewart, 89, of Odessa will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Sherman Mayfield officiating. Burial will be at Williams cemetery under the direction of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Stewart died Monday, Nov. 19, 2001, at an Odessa nursing home. She was born March 10, 1912, in Omen Community. She had been a resident of Tyler for 40 years and moved to Odessa in the 1970s. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Odessa and Bethel Baptist New Chapel Hill and a homemaker.
She married
Roy Williams on Nov. 17, 1928. He passed away Sept. 16, 1983. She then married
Ben Stewart on May 10, 1991. She was valedictorian of her graduating class at Arp High School.
She is survived by her husband, Benjamin F. Stewart of Odessa; daughter and son-in-law, Jerrie and Jimmy Smith of Odessa; brothers, George H. Arnold Sr. of Refugio and Billy R. Arnold Sr. of Universal City; grandchildren, J. Scott Smith and wife Grace of Odessa and Tana L. Cooper and husband Steven of Schertz; great-grandchildren, Joe McFarland of Schertz and Lillian and William Smith of Odessa; and stepchildren, James Stewart, Tilda Jones and Martha Hector.
Pallbearers will be Kendall C. Williams, T.L. Williams, Louis H. Arnold, Billy J. Arnold, Jesse Copeland, Billy R. Arnold Jr., Ralph D. Parman and Don Williams.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Stella Mae Murphy
ODESSA — Stella Mae Murphy, 71, passed away Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born Nov. 12, 1929, in San Angelo to William and Edna Stanford.
Services are scheduled for 3 p.m., Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, at Greenfield Acres Baptist Church with the Revs. Clydell Chapman and Mike Bartlett officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Stella married
Lee Roy Murphy on Nov. 3, 1951, in San Angelo. They moved to Odessa on Jan. 14, 1954. She was a member of the Ector County Sheriff’s Posse. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Stella was the former owner of Ector Sanitation, retiring a year ago.
Her husband of nearly fifty years, Lee Roy Murphy, and her parents, precede her in death.
Survivors include son, Wesley Murphy and wife, Melissa, of Odessa; daughter, Edna Buck and her fiancé, Martin Potter, of Odessa; mother-in-law, Lizzie Murphey, of Odessa; sisters, Francis and husband, Jack, and Shirley Stanford, all of San Angelo; five grandchildren, Scotty Pence and wife, Tammy, Tiffany Davis, David Pence, Randi Murphy and Riley Murphy; and two great-grandchildren, Cade and Hunter Pence.
Services are in the care of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Peggy Rutledge
ODESSA — Peggy Rutledge, 88, of Odessa, passed away Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001 in a local hospital after a brief illness. She was born in Knox City, Texas to Henry and Lena (Hall) Smith. She was raised by her stepmother, Vera Smith in New Willard, Texas. Mrs. Rutledge moved to Odessa in 1935 where she was employed by Odessa’s first hospital, The Headley Clinic. Later, she was employed by Dr. Allen Hayes as a private nurse until her retirement.
Mrs. Rutledge is survived by three sisters, Corine Marbury of Houston, Ernestine Fountain of Nacogdoches, and Sherry Smith of Lyford, Texas; sister-in-law Francis Smith of Grand Prairie; beloved cousins, Luline Minshew and Donald Keith Minshew of Odessa and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Rutledge was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, R.A. Smith and Henry Lester Smith Jr.; sister, Stella Smith Stearns; her first husband, Harold Morris and her second husband, Earl Rutledge.
There will be a family visitation Sunday evening from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, 2001 at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Melvin Warren of the First Baptist Church officiating.

DeShay Ebert
SAN ANTONIO — DeShay Ebert, 39, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away Dec. 5, 2001, at her residence. Ms. Ebert was born June 1, 1962, in Odessa. She graduated from Permian High School in 1980 and attended Odessa College.
DeShay was an active body builder and won numerous Body Building Contests in 1983-84. She began judging state body building contests in 1985 and national contests in 1997. In 1999 she began judging international contests for the International Federation of Body Builders and was currently active on all levels. She served as Chairman of the Texas Amateur Body Builders Organization (NPC) from 1990 to the present. She was active in the national promotion of the Junior Nationals in 1999 and 2000 and was a writer for South Texas Fitness and Health Magazine since 1994.
She was the owner of Turbo Custom Components, Inc. in Odessa and had worked as bookkeeper for Turbo Specialties for 20 years. In 1994, she became a personal trainer in San Antonio. She appeared twice at Spurs games during time outs for skits with the Spurs Coyote before more than 18, 000 people and was speaker for Spurs player, Keith Edmonson’s Basketball Camp for 50 young people.
The casket will lie in state from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, in the Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, in the Immanuel Baptist Church with Dr. Mark Riley and David Parker officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Dawson L. Smith
ODESSA — Dawson L. Smith, 73, of Odessa, passed away Saturday, December 8, 2001, at his residence. He was born October 13, 1928, in Hall Summit, La., to Lory and Bertie Smith.
Graveside services are scheduled for Monday, December 10, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Rev. Bobby Wayne Bonds officiating.
Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1949. He married
Faye Bonds on November 12, 1949, in Natchitoches, La., and later moved to Odessa in 1964. He retired from El Paso Natural Gas after 35 years, and was the former owner of Trails End BookStore. He was a Mason, and Shriner, and a member of both the American Legion, and the Goldsmith Lodge.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Faye Smith; sons, Dawson Smith Jr. and Dennis Smith, both of Odessa; daughter, Wanda Kerce of Odessa; three grandchildren, Angela Davis, Greg Fox, and Savannah Smith; and four great-grandchildren, Spencer and Sterling Davis, and Breland and Stratton Fox.
Memorials can be made to Star Care Hospice.

Lasaro Lopez Abalos Sr.
ODESSA — Lasaro Lopez Abalos Sr., 89, went to be with God surrounded by his family Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001.
He is survived by sons, Paul C. (Pilar) Abalos, Basilio C. (Francis) Abalos, Richard C (Delma) Abalos, Frank C. (Francis) Abalos, Jessie F. (Josie) Abalos, Johnny F. (Linda) Abalos, Selso F. (Mary) Abalos, Lupe F. Abalos; daughters, Linda (Frank) Rojas, Martha (David) Black, Victoria (Marcelino) Dominguez; 55 grandchildren; 88 great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; Juanita Barrera Abalos (sister-in-law); numerous nephews, nieces, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Andres Abalos, and his mother, Felicita Lopez Abalos, daughter Estolia A. Ortiz, son-in-law Rodolfo Ortiz, wife Angela Covarubio, wife Consuelo Flores Abalos, and brothers Francisco (Panchito) Abalos, Francisco (Chico) Abalos and Selso Abalos.
He was born Feb. 28, 1912, in Camargo, Chihuahua. He moved to Rankin at a very early age. Lasaro was a lifelong resident of Rankin and was considered the hardest working man in Rankin by most residents. In his later years, Rankin residents fondly looked out for Lasaro when he was driving his big, red truck. He was a musician who loved to play the violin with local musicians. He and his musician friends would entertain at the local senior citizen’s center.
Visitation will be held at Martinez Funeral Home on Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, from 5 to 10 p.m. and at Rankin Park Building, 310 E. 10th St., Rankin, Texas, from noon Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, to Monday, Dec. 10, 2001. A rosary will be held Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001 at 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at 10 a.m. at Rankin Park Building. Father Barry McLean will be officiating. Burial will be in the Rankin cemetery in Rankin.

Delma Dean Perry Sr.
EL PASO — Delma Dean Perry Sr., 63, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001.
He was a longtime resident of El Paso. Mr. Perry is survived by his wife, Marie Perry; son, Del Perry Jr.; daughter, Lisa Rush; and five grandchildren.
He is also survived by his mother, Margaret Tatum, and brothers James Perry and Wayne Perry.
Visitation will be held Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home East. A chapel service will be held on Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at 9 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home East. Interment will take place at a later date in Pell City, Ala. Memorial Contribution may be made to the American Heart Association or the Victory Baptist Church Building Fund.
