HOUSTON — Tom C. Halfacre, 59, of The Woodlands, a real estate developer, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001, at his residence.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Lakewood Church with Daniel Kelly officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Green Lawn Memorial Funeral Home.
He was born in Breckenridge and had been a resident of Odessa.

ODESSA — Autumn Faith Upchurch, an infant, of Odessa died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, at University Medical Center in Lubbock.

She was born in Odessa.

Ferne C. Bingham
ODESSA — Ferne C. Bingham, 77, of Odessa passed away Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, at Methodist Hospital in Houston. She was born April 2, 1924, in Cleburne to Charles “Roland” and Esther Chadwell.
Ferne came to Odessa in 1943. She married
Carl D. Bingham Sr. Dec. 31, 1943, in Odessa. She was a member of St. Luke’s Methodist Church. She loved arts and crafts.
Her parents; brother, Dick Chadwell; and her husband preceded her in death.
Survivors include son, Carl D. Bingham Jr. of Odessa; daughters, Becky Conn of Dickinson and Cyd Bingham of Dallas; brothers, Roland Chadwell and Bert Chadwell of Houston; sisters, Helen James of Odessa and Esther Kile of Taylor; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Chapel with Don Caywood Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
The family will hold visitation from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 29, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
The family has requested memorials to Hospice of Odessa, American Cancer Society and United Parkinson Association.

Robert Andrew Coleman
ODESSA — Robert Andrew Coleman, 78, of Odessa passed away Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at his residence. He was born Sept. 20, 1922, in Cotulla. He graduated from Cotulla High School in 1939.
Mr. Coleman was an Air Force advanced pilot instructor during World War II and was also a test pilot and flight instructor during the Korean War.
He graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in petroleum engineering in 1949. He married
Jessie Ruth Sanderson May 27, 1947, in Del Rio.
He worked for Gulf Oil Co. for 31 years as a petroleum engineer and area manager. After retiring from Gulf, he became a manager for Alps Oil Co. for 15 years.
He served on the board of directors of the Permian Basin International Oil Show and the West Texas New Mexico Senior Golf Association. He was a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers of Texas. He was also a member of First United Methodist Church. He loved quail hunting and considered himself a “professional quail hunter.”
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John Everett Coleman; and a sister, Beth Coleman.
He is survived by his wife, Jessie Ruth “Sandy” Coleman of Odessa; a son, Robert Andrew Coleman Jr. and wife Vickie of Graham; daughter, Cindy Mullins of Midland; brothers, Bill Coleman of Kopperl and D.L. Coleman of Corpus Christi; sister, Bebe Coleman of Huntington, W. Va.; grandchildren, Jennifer Jane, Kari and Shellie Coleman, all of Graham, and Stephanie Mullins of Midland and College Station.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Heggemeier officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church Children’s Clothes Closet.

Louise Baird Thompson
KERMIT — Louise Baird Thompson, age 85, a member of two pioneer West Texas ranching families, died late Monday night at a Dallas hospital.
Mrs. Thompson was the valedictorian of the first high school graduating class of Kermit High School. She began her teaching career in the Eunice, N.M., public schools at age 18. During her long 28-year teaching career, she was named Kermit Teacher of the Year, among numerous other honors.
Louise Baird Thompson was the editor and primary author of the “The History of Winkler County, ” published in 1981. She was a ceramist, a seamstress, a pianist and a staunch and devout member of the First United Methodist Church of Kermit. Mrs. Thompson was a graduate of Sul Ross State University and a former grand matron of the Kermit Eastern Star and president of the Winkler County Historical Society.
Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, G.E. “Tommy” Thompson; her only sister, Reggie Baird Woltz; and her parents, Ern and Kate Lovett Baird.
She is survived by two sons and their wives, G. Dan and Myrna Thompson of Dallas and Llano and Dr. Barry B. and Sandra Thompson of Centerville. Mrs. Thompson is also survived by six grandchildren and their spouses, Kim and Robert Fimbel of Stephenville, Karol Wallace of Harker Heights, Tianna and Bill Borowski of Richardson, Scott Thompson of Fort Worth, Bart and Marie Thompson of Athens and Todd and Xan Thompson of Plano. In addition, she is survived by eight great-grandchildren, Kate Fimbel, Andrew Fimbel, Case Daniel Thompson, Dayton Todd Thompson, Sarah Wallace, Jill Wallace, Marie Jo Rotello and Rachel Maureen Thompson.
A graveside service for Louise Baird Thompson will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 31, 2001, at the Kermit cemetery. The Rev. Beth Harrington, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Kermit, will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Fimbel, Robert Fimbel, Kate Fimbel, Sarah Wallace, Scott Thompson and Bart Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Mrs. Thompson’s Sunday school class.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Louise Baird Thompson Teacher Scholarship Fund at Tarleton State University in Stephenville.

Santos Castaneda
ODESSA — Santos Castaneda, 74, of Odessa died Thursday, June 28, 2001, in Odessa.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Fidelo Lugo officiating. Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 2, 2001, at Martinez Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Rose Hill cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. today at Martinez Funeral Home Chapel.
She was born Nov. 1, 1926, in El Paso and was a lifelong resident of Odessa. She was a homemaker. She was Catholic.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Virginia Hernandez and Benito Bueno.
She is survived by her daughters, Petra Lopez and husband Jesus of Odessa, Delfina Castellanos of Odessa and Virginia Payne and husband Kenneth of San Angelo; sons, Armando Llamas and wife Sandy of Odessa, Manuel Castaneda and wife Estela of California, Jesus Castaneda and wife Alicia of Odessa, Antonio Castaneda of Odessa, Daniel Castaneda of Odessa, Alfonso Castaneda and wife Maria Leticia of New Mexico and Salvador Castaneda and wife Josefina of Anthony, N.M.; brothers, Cruz Hernandez, Beto Hernandez and Lauro Hernandez, all of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico; 35 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren.
Our mom was a very beloved mom by all her sons, daughters and grandchildren. We’ll miss her dearly. May God keep her in a safe place for us. — The family and children.
