Mary Louise Hamilton
ODESSA — Mary Louise Hamilton, 85, of Odessa passed away Friday, Aug. 17, 2001, at a local hospital. Mrs. Hamilton was born April 22, 1916, in Fort Worth to Charles E. and Estelle Foshall. She married Robert F. Hamilton on March 28, 1942, in Fort Worth. They moved to Odessa in 1946 from Fort Worth.
Mrs. Hamilton had been a member of the AARP, Odessa Garden Club and Highland United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Capt. Ronald W. Forrester, USMC; a grandson, Ronald David Forrester; and her sister, Margaret Foshall Buchanan.
She is survived by her husband, Robert F. Hamilton of Odessa; a daughter, Jana Forrester Bland of Austin; two grandchildren, Seth A. Bland of San Antonio and Karoni Forrester Gonzales and her husband Javier of Austin; her nephew, Philip Hamilton of Odessa; and three cousins, Bettye Huddle, Susan Nelson and Brian Zielinski, all of Lubbock.
Funeral services are scheduled for 3 p.m. today, Aug. 19, 2001, at Highland United Methodist Church with Dr. Mark Scott and the Rev. Don Forrester officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers will be Javier Gonzales, Seth Bland, Bobby Bland, Randy Nunley, Brian Zielinski and Philip Hamilton.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Kenneth 'Ken' Ronald Kiker
ODESSA — Ken Kiker, an environmental specialist, age 49, passed away Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001, at his residence in Odessa. He was born Dec. 18, 1951, in Odessa to Kenneth Lloyd and Mary Juanita Kiker.
Services are scheduled at 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, at Northside Baptist Church with the Rev. Clydel Chapman officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Ken was a member of the Class of 1970 at Odessa High School. He married Brenda Bolinger on Dec. 24, 1976, in Odessa. For many years, he worked for Citgo, EOTT, and Enron as a welder. He loved to hunt and fish and was a member of Northside Baptist Church.
His son, Jeremy, preceded him in death in 1991.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda of Odessa; sons, Kenneth Ronald Kiker Jr. of Bartlett and Toby Kiker of Odessa; parents, Kenneth and Juanita Kiker of Odessa; brother, Danny Kiker of Odessa; grandchildren, Kiley and Kalen Kiker of Cristoval; and nieces and nephews, Jennifer, Dustin, Stacey and Lauren.
Memorials can be made to Home Hospice and to M.D. Anderson for research.
Services are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

A.R. Smith
ALVARADO — A.R. “Dick” Smith, 61, a geologist, died Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at his residence.
Memorial services were held July 8, 2001, at First Jefferson Unitarian Universalist Church in Fort Worth. Following private committal services, Dick was laid to rest at Greenwood Memorial Park.
Honorary pallbearers were his sons, Geren and Preston Smith, brother-in-law, Al Schultz, Hardy Childress, Ginger Courtney, Lori Greathouse, Carl Kunath, Howard McMahan, James Riddell, Peggy Schneider, Barbara Turner and Dale York.
Those desiring, please make memorial contributions to the Dick Smith Memorial Music Fund, Westside U.U. Church, 6901 McCart St., Suite 125, Fort Worth, Texas, 76133. Anyone wishing to contact his wife, Ann M. Smith, may do so at P.O. Box 1876, Alvarado, Texas, 76009.
A native of Odessa, Audas Richard Smith was born Sept. 22, 1939, the son of Audas Richardson and Annie Louise Watkins Smith. He attended Rice University for two years before receiving a degree in geology from the University of Texas at Austin.
He was revered by his co-workers, whom he loved to encourage and share his knowledge with them, delivered along with his wonderfully corny sense of humor. He was considered an expert in karst geology and hydrogeology.
In his early years, he was a cave explorer and is responsible for mapping many of the caves in Texas. He was the recipient of the first Texas Speleological Survey Outstanding Service Award, given in appreciation of 37 years of extraordinary contributions which have been instrumental for the TSS in attaining its goals of documenting, researching and conserving the caves and karst of Texas. Dick was also a member of the National Speleological Society.
His hobbies included steam trains, building models of his beloved T&P railroad and researching railroad history. He was an officer and an active member in the Missouri Pacific Historical Society.
Dick was a beloved leader in his church, serving in many capacities. One of his loves included music, both classical, especially opera, and hymns. Playing hymns from his childhood served as a form of relaxation for him.
Dick was honorable, fair and principled with all. The universe has lost a beautiful soul. He was a sweet man, a gentle man and a gentleman. Loved by all who knew him, he abhorred violence of any kind. He was a voracious reader and an eloquent writer. He was an animal lover, especially of their precious pets.
Dick was adored by his wife and was the most loving husband. More than life, he loved his Ann.
Survivors: Wife of 11 years, Ann Marie Harding Smith of Alvarado; sons, Geren David Smith of Phoenix, Ariz., and Preston Smith of Holden, Mo., and their mother, Elizabeth Kelley Smith; daughter-in-law, Sarah; grandchildren, Griffin Guynn and Rigel Smith; brothers, David Smith and Donald Smith and wife Diana; mother-in-law, Avis Wirth; brother-in-law, Alex Schultz and wife Jeneane; and several nieces and nephews.

Juanita K. Holland
WACO — Juanita K. Holland, 84, of Waco, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at a local hospital.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel, 1124 Washington, with the Rev. Ed Carter officiating. Burial will be at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Holland was born July 28, 1917, in Osceola to Quincy and Fannie Kiblinger. She was educated in Abbott schools and graduated from Texas Women’s University in 1939. She married William M. “Bill” Holland on Oct. 11, 1939. She taught in the Abbott school district and was a substitute teacher for WISD. She was a member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church since 1949 and taught a four- to five-year-old Sunday school class for many, many years. She was a member of the Miriam Sunday School Class. She spent most of her life being a housewife and a loving mother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a sister, Euretha Marie Holland, and a son-in-law, Bill Harman.
Survivors: Daughters, Jeanne Holland Harman of Woodway and Debra Holland Ryan and husband John of Grapevine; grandsons, Curt Harman and wife Debbie and Patrick Ryan; great-granddaughters, Crystal Harman and Courtney Harman; sisters, Frances Cypert of Waco and Inez Neelley of Olney; brother, Quincy Kiblinger Jr. of Cleburne; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers: Dan Carroll, James Neelley, Jim Cypert, Doke Kiblinger, Bob Barnett, Ralph Sparks, Paden Neeley and Art Ryan.

Nellie McConnell Jones
ODESSA — Nellie McConnell Jones was born Oct. 18, 1910, in Paoli, Okla., to Mont Aubrey and Nellie Bell (Davis) McClain. She passed away Nov. 28, 2001.
Nellie had a love of music, beauty and learning. After receiving a public school teachers certificate from the State of Oklahoma, she taught in a one-room schoolhouse. In June 1932, she married Julius Clifforn “J.C.” McConnell, and in 1937, they came to Odessa. From that time until her health began to fail about 10 years ago, she supported her church and community. Nellie was active in the First Methodist Church, teaching children in Sunday school for 18 years as a circle chairman for the United Methodist Women and a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class and the Couples’ Class. She loved preparing food and entertaining friends and the church youth. Nellie loved Odessa and showed her gratitude by giving generously to her church, the Globe of the Southwest and the Permian Playhouse of Odessa. She was active in or supported the Pioneer Study Club, Oil Barons, Odessa Civic Concert Association, Odessa Knife and Fork Club, Presidential Museum and Midland-Odessa Symphony and Chorale Inc.
After the death of her husband, J.C. McConnell on May 27, 1968, she rose to the challenge of his real estate investments. On May 29, 1975, she married Robert Louis Schlemeyer, who died less than two years later. In September 1981, Nellie and Tilden Jones were married until his death in September 1991. She shared a love of travel and football with all three and enjoyed the Chuck Wagon trips with Tilden. She also loved the card game Skip Bo so much that she played as long as possible and the game was part of any visit to the hospital or doctor.
Nellie was preceded in death by her four brothers.
Nellie and J.C. had a daughter, Marlee Stewart of Mesquite; two wonderful grandchildren, Julian Stewart of Rockwall and Lorna Haig of Austin; and a grandson-in-law, Bobby Haig. She was also fortunate to have two devoted caregivers for eight years, Carolyn Jones and Ema Canaday.
Funeral services are scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Donnie Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Louise Reese Tankersley
ODESSA — Louise Tankersley, age 80, of Odessa died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at Avalon Place Nursing Center. She was born July 18, 1921, in Henrietta to Sima and Martha Bell.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with the Rev. Jess Little officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Tankersley married Willard Reese in 1941 in Lubbock and they moved to Odessa in 1955. She worked at Safeway as a grocery checker while attending nursing school at night at Odessa College. She and Mr. Reese started Reese Coffee Service in 1964. She was a nurse at Medical Center Hospital for many years. She was a member of Sunset Heights Baptist Church and the Rebekah Lodge. She loved camping and fishing.
Mrs. Tankersley was preceded in death by husband, Willard Reese in 1982; husband, Shelby Tankersley in 1999; and a son, Ed Reese in 1970.
She is survived by her sons, Ron Reese and wife Linda of Odessa and Larry Reese of Red Oak; grandchildren, Mylinda Allen and husband Mark of Odessa, Lori Tucker and husband Merlin of Midland and Mitch Reese of Fort Worth; and six great-grandchildren.
A special thank you to Dr. John Doran and the staff at Avalon Place Nursing Center for the care, compassion and love that they showed to our “Nanny.”
Services have been entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

Carl Driver
ODESSA — Carl Driver, 85, of Odessa passed away Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, in Odessa. He was born June 7, 1916, in Arp. His parents were Silas and Carrie Driver.
Carl served in the U.S. Air Force from Oct. 1942 to Oct. 1945. He married Mary Dorothy Almand on Dec. 27, 1946. He worked for General Refractories as a mine foreman and as a heavy equipment operator until 1958 in Troup. Later that same year, they moved to Midland where he was employed by M.F. Machen, Tripp Construction as well as Roy Rogers Construction as heavy equipment operator until 1987. He then retired and moved to Odessa.
Carl was a happy man and was a Christian. He was saved by grace at Calvary and asked our Lord and Savior, Jesus, into his heart in 1956.
Carl asked almost everyone he spoke with, “Are you having fun today and are you happy?” If Carl were here at this hour and could speak, he’d say, “Be happy and have fun.”
Carl was greatly loved by his family and well respected by all his fellow workers.
His mother and father, Silas and Carrie Driver; brothers, Al, Charlie, Dave, Wesley, John and Jim Driver; and sisters, Ida Moore and Lula Mae Farmer, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two sons, Jim Driver and wife Beverly and Chris Driver and wife Janet; two daughters, Carolyn Welch and Elizabeth Driver; as well as three grandsons, a granddaughter, three great-grandsons and a great-granddaughter, who were all the joy of his life.
Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Don Hetherington officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Driver, James Driver, Chris Driver, Claude Almand, Arnold Almand and Coby Duncan.
Memorials may be sent to the National Kidney Foundation.
