Charles Rimes
PALESTINE — Charles Rimes of Houston passed away Sept. 1, 2001. Charles served in the U.S. Army; he worked for Porter Earnest Buick for 10 years in Odessa and 10 years for Bob Marco Buick in Houston.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents Walter Douglas and Frances Vincent Rimes and his brother, Johnny Rimes. He is survived by his wife, Malinda Rimes; son and daughter-in-law, Sherry and Chris Sherwood; grandchildren, Melanie, Daniel and Justin Sherwood; sister, Jean Ann Huckaby; sister-in-law, Sherry Rimes; and numerous other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Visitation is 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Herrington Land of Memory Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Palestine City cemetery in Palestine, Texas.
Sandra 'Sandy' Kay Harris
ODESSA — Sandra “Sandy” Kay Harris, 52, of Odessa, passed away at her residence Sept. 2, 2001.
Services are scheduled for 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001 at University Heights Baptist Church with Ceci R. Maxey officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Sandra Kay Harris was born April 28, 1949, in Silverton to Thomas and Ottie Lee. They came to Odessa in 1951. She married
John Harris on March 31, 1973, in Odessa. Sandy was a 1967 graduate of Odessa High School. She had worked as a cashier for 16 years at Albertson’s on 42nd and John Ben Shepperd Parkway. Sandy loved to fish. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and surfing the Internet on her computer.
Her parents and one brother preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband of 28 years, John Harris of Odessa; daughters, Christy Drake and husband Brian of Odessa and Carol Born and husband Daniel of Plainview; sisters, Shirley Stepp and Judy Scarbrough, both of Odessa; and three grandchildren, JoLee and Johnny Drake and Noa Born.
Kathleen White
KERMIT — Kathleen White, 75, of Kermit, went to be with her Lord on Sept. 1, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.
Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001, at the First Baptist Church in Kermit with the Rev. G.A. Magee and speakers Trey Wyles and Bailey Barkley officiating. Burial will follow at Kermit cemetery. Arrangements by Cooper Funeral Chapel.
Kathleen Elizabeth White was born in Maudlow, Texas, to Ben and Lota Mitchell on April 20, 1926. She graduated from Grandfalls-Royalty High School and attended Sul Ross State Teachers College in Alpine. Kathleen married
W.T. (Bill) White, her high school sweetheart, March 22, 1943. They have treasured their friendship and marriage for sixty years.
During the Second World War, she followed Bill as his military assignments took them throughout the country. Their first child, Travis Gordon White, was born during this time. After the war, they resided in Grandfalls where three daughters were born: Judy Evelyn, Carol Ann, and Peggy Louise.
Kathleen was a homemaker and caregiver while Bill worked for an oil company. They moved to Kermit in 1960 where they raised their children. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she served as church secretary for 17 years and was a member of the choir for 35 years. She especially enjoyed the Junior High Sunday School classes she and Bill taught together for many years. She served the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU) and Vacation Bible School. She was also the church nursery coordinator, where she had many dedicated volunteers that were very dear to her heart.
Kathleen was an avid Kermit Yellow Jacket supporter as she was a season ticket holder for 40 years. She attended almost every Yellow Jacket game in every sport, and received many awards honoring her as a faithful and dedicated fan. Kathleen also loved the Chicago Cubs, and one of the highlights of her life was a trip to Chicago to see her favorite baseball team play at Wrigley Field.
After Bill’s retirement they were able to enjoy many years of traveling together. Her favorite destinations included the homes of their children and grandchildren, many sporting events, and the mountains and resorts of Ruidoso, N.M. Her loving personality drew friends of all ages. Most important to her was being a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She was loved by all.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her father, Ben Mitchell. She is survived by her husband W.T. (Bill) White of Kermit; son, Travis and wife JoAnn of Monahans; daughters, Judy Wyles and husband Michael of Round Rock, Carol Ann Hogue and husband Smoke of Lovington, N.M., and Peggy Bennet and husband Jim of Irving. She is also survived by her mother, Lota Mitchell of Kermit; brother, Gordon Mitchell of San Antonio; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a host of friends.

Evelyn B. Baker
ODESSA — Evelyn B. Baker, born in Corsicana, Texas, on Sept. 8, 1907, passed away, after a long illness on July 13, 2001, in Mesquite, Texas. She married
John Williamson Baker on Dec. 24, 1927, and moved, with her new husband, to West Texas. They lived in Crane and Wickett before moving to Odessa, Texas, in 1944. Mrs. Baker and her husband were very active in the First Baptist Church of Odessa for many years.
Her husband, John, passed away on Jan. 22, 1967. In 1993, she moved to Mesquite, Texas, to be near her only child, Sandra B. Starr, and her husband, Don, both of whom survive her.
She adored her grandchildren who also survive her — Susan King and her husband Darren, Chris Starr, Kathy Jackman and her husband Tommy and Phillip L. Starr and his wife Susan.
She is also survived by five great-grandchildren — Amanda Jackman, Matthew King, William King, Andrew Jackman and Jesse Starr.
Her oldest grandchild, Wesley King, preceded her in death in 1993.

Robert V. Bernard
ODESSA — Robert V. Bernard, 51, passed away Friday, July 13, 2001, at his residence in Odessa. He was born Oct. 25, 1949, to Raymond and Baudela Bernard in Fort Stockton, Texas.
Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with Father Chavez officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today and Monday at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Robert Bernard served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1971. He married
Elvira Carrasco on June 7, 1969, and later moved to Odessa in 1972 from Monahans. He was a member of the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and the 798 Local Union. Mr. Bernard enjoyed gardening and he contracted welding.
Mr. Bernard’s father, Raymond; his brother, Henry Raymond Bernard; son, Anthony Bernard; mother-in-law, Josefa Carrasco; and grandfather, Seferino Salmon, all precede him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Elvira Bernard; daughter, Michelle Rodriguez and husband, Luis of Georgetown, Del.; stepmother, Suzie Bernard of Midland; father-in-law, Pete Carrasco of Odessa; mother, Baudela and stepfather, Manuel Sanchez of Odessa; grandmother, Irene Salmon of Fort Stockton; brothers, Raymond Bernard Jr. and wife, Goya, of Carlsbad, N.M.; Eddy Bernard of Midland, and Billy Bernard of Dallas; and grandchildren, Jonathan, Amber, Luis Jr. and Ashley Rodriguez, all of Georgetown, Del., and Anthony Ray Bernard, Jr. of Odessa.
Pallbearers include Paul Acosta, Jesus Banegas, Raymond Bernard, Paul Acosta, Jr., Abraham Bernard, and Albert Samora. Pete Carrasco, Manuel Sanchez, and Luis Rodriguez will be honorary pallbearers.

Mary Katherine
ODESSA — Mary Katherine “Katy” Reynolds, 73, of Odessa, a retired bookkeeper, died Saturday, July 14, 2001 at Parks Methodist.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 16, 2001, at the Frank W. Wilson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Newton of Wesley Evangelical Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
She was born in Midland to William and Nasine Sinclair. She graduated from Odessa High School and attended Odessa College during its first year of operation. She had worked at Hale Motor Company and Midland Air Base during World War II. She married
John Reynolds in 1948 at the First Baptist Church of Odessa. Mrs. Reynolds had been involved in Alcholics Anonymous Basin Group for more than 30 years, serving as an officer. She loved traveling to Las Vegas almost every month. She loved her dog, Brandi, shopping at Sam’s and visiting with her friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Reynolds.
Pallbearers will be Hal Loony and others from Alcoholics Anonymous Basin Group.
Survivors include her close friend and caregiver, Betty Hobbs, and husband Jess of Odessa; aunt, Beverly Robinson of Gatesville; cousins, Joan Ward of Odessa, Doris Crabtree of San Angelo, Dick Sinclair of Forest Grove, Ore., David Robinson of Vorzallis, Ore., Bill Robinson of Austin, Ann Robinson of Fort Worth and Lynn Weston of Gatesville; second cousins, George Ward of Odessa, Alan Ward of Cedar Park and Suzy Hickerson of Odessa.

Ruby Eleanore Weathersby
ODESSA — Ruby Eleanore Weathersby, 80, of Odessa died on Friday, July 13, 2001, at home. She was born on May 14, 1921, in Sapulpa, Okla., to Rube and Jessie Thacker. She moved to Odessa in 1927, where she was reared and educated. She graduated from Odessa High School in 1939.
On March 17, 1950, she married
Hugh Weathersby in the front room of their home, where they lived until her death. She was a member of the First Christian Church where she was active in the Christian Women’s Fellowship and taught Sunday School many years ago. She was also a volunteer for the Girl’s Club and Interfaith Sewing Group. She was an excellent cook and a homemaker who provided a loving home for her husband and two daughters. The joy of her life was her two precious grandsons.
Ruby was preceded in death by her daughter, Wanda Lyon, a sister, Mildred Puckett, a brother, James Thacker, and her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Hugh Weathersby, of the home; her daughter, Carla Weathersby, of Odessa; her grandsons, Houston Lyon, of Omaha, Neb., and Carson Lyon of Houston; and a sister, Shirley Thacker, of Dallas.
Graveside services will be Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at 9 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Dr. David Mindel officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be made to the First Christian Church.
The family would also like to thank Judy and Home Hospice for their excellent care and dedication in helping Ruby during the last few weeks. A special thanks is also extended to Frances Moran, Tina Sosa and Amy Rodriguez for taking care of her daily. Words are inadequate to describe your dedication and compassion.

Raymundo Hernandez
ODESSA — Raymundo “Juarez” Hernandez, 62 years of age, passed away on Saturday, July 14, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital.
He was born on Dec. 13, 1938, in Chihuahua, Mexico. In 1960, he married
Maria Galindo in Chihuahua, Mexico.
Mr. Hernandez was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Cruz Hernandez, and his brother, Antonio Hernandez.
Surviving are his wife, Maria Hernandez of Odessa; sons, Manuel Hernandez and his wife, Nidia, Raymond Hernandez and his wife, Maria, Harvey Hernandez and his wife, Yvonne and Juan Hernandez and his wife, Priscilla, all of Odessa; daughters, Christina Roth and her husband, Juan Carlos, and Carmen Hernandez, both of Odessa; brothers, Damaso Guadelupe Hernandez, Juan Hernandez, Fernando Hernandez, all of Amarillo, Arturo Hernandez of Odessa; sister, Cecilia Salazar of Chihuahua, Mexico; and 10 grandchildren.
Rosary will be said on Monday, July 16, 2001, at the Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 17, 2001, St. Jospeph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Pilar Arredondo Sr.
ODESSA — Pilar Arredondo Sr., 89, of Odessa, retired owner of La Fiesta Bakery, died Thursday, June 28, 2001, in Odessa.
Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church. Burial will be at Rose Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Martinez Funeral Home.
He was born in Lampazos, Mexico, and was a lifelong resident of Odessa. He was Catholic.
SURVIVORS: Daughters, Rosie Torres of Lubbock, Maria Narvaiz of Midland and Grace Ornelas of Odessa; sons, Gonzalo Arredondo of Lubbock, Albert Arredondo of Slaton, Jesse Arredondo, Sergio Arredondo and Jay Paul Garcia, all of Odessa; sister, Cecilia A. Guerrero of Laredo; 31 grandchildren; 67 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
