ANDREWS — Bessie Sample, 77, of Andrews, former owner of B & J Cafe, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, at her residence.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at McNett Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ted Short officiating. Burial will follow at Andrews West cemetery. Arrangements by McNett Funeral Home.
She was born in Athens. She was Methodist.
SURVIVORS: Sons, Dr. Chet Sample of Alpine, Gary “Tex” Richards of Omaha and Earl Sample of Pecos; daughters, Marie Murphy of Andrews, Bobbie Podrazik of Midland and Edna Langehennig of Andrews; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Opal Jones
ROTAN — Opal Jones, 89, of Rotan died May 28, 2001, at the Fisher County Hospital. Services were at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2001, in the Rotan Church of Christ. Burial followed in the Belvieu cemetery under the direction of Weathersbee Funeral Home of Rotan.
Mrs. Jones was born Nov. 2, 1911, in Bryson to the late Mr. and Mrs. Gid Senn. She married
Alton Jones in Aspermont Jan. 10, 1926. He died April 24, 1966.
Mrs. Jones had lived in the Rotan area most of her adult life. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two sons, Hubert Jones of Rotan, June 6, 1997, and Dean Jones of Tularosa, N.M., July 21, 2000.
Survivors include a son, Clifton Jones and wife Doris of Odessa; a sister, Ruby Jenkins of Abilene; two daughters-in-law, LaVada Jones of Rotan and Mary Jones of Tularosa; eight grandchildren, Linda Nelson, Buddy Jones, Gail Stoecker, Kenneth Jones, Kevin Jones, Debbie Salmon, Dianne Talbert and Mike Jones; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Margaret Newman
ODESSA — Margaret Newman, age 72, of Odessa passed away at her residence May 29, 2001.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2001 at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday night at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Margaret was born Feb. 1, 1929. She married
John Newman Oct. 13, 1945. She had been a resident of Odessa for 46 years. Margaret worked as a licensed vocational nurse for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Taylor Newman; brothers, Roy Edward Speed, Lonnie Speed and Billy Jean Speed; and a sister, JoAnn Speed.
Survivors include her son, J. Frank Newman of Midland; daughters, Mitzie Jo Shoemake of Odessa and Debbie Lynn McLaughlin of Austin; a brother, Gerald Wayne Speed of Kermit; a sister, Anita Gail Burnett of Kermit; four grandchildren, Nikki Dawn Brown, Paula Janeen Ward, Natalie McLaughlin and Taylor Dean Newman; and great-grandchildren, Alixe Ward, Carly Ward, Rebecca Brown and Zachariah Brown.
The family requests memorial donations to Community Care Hospice.
Laura Sullivan
ODESSA — Laura Faye Sullivan, 76, of Odessa died Monday, May 28, 2001, at her residence. She was born Feb. 1, 1925, in Grainola, Okla., to Thomas and Maud Johnston.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 1, 2001, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with the Rev. Bill Heggemeier officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Sullivan was raised in Roy, N.M. She married
Dick Sullivan in 1942, and they moved to Odessa in 1962. She was employed by Walgreens in Midland and Odessa for over 30 years. She attended First United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Sullivan was preceded in death by her husband, Dick, and a daughter, Linda Teakell.
She is survived by her son, Jack Sullivan of Odessa; sister, Mrs. Floran Hutchinson of Farmington, N.M.; brothers, Warren Johnston of Artesia, N.M., Robert Johnston of Fallon, Nev., and Wayne Johnston of Albuquerque, N.M.; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

MARFA — Eliborio Urias Catano, 87, of Marfa, a Santa Fe Railroad employee, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, in Odessa.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Rosary was said at 7 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be at Merced cemetery. Arrangements by Memorial Funeral Home.
He was born at La Ternera Ranch near Presidio. He was Catholic.
SURVIVORS: Daughter, Lupe C. Aguirre of Odessa; sister, Celia Catano of Marfa; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

JUSTICEBURG — Alice “Lucy” Dewees, 73, of Odessa, a dress shop operator, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, in Odessa.

She was born in Justiceburg. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

COLEMAN — Cecil Gayler, 94, of Coleman, a retired oilfield employee, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at Coleman Medical Center.

He was born in Neutral, Kan., and had lived in Ballinger and Goldsboro. He was Baptist.

MONAHANS— Edna Mae Miller, 84, of Monahans, a waitress and bookkeeper, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, in Monahans.

She was born in San Angelo and was a resident of Monahans for 70 years.

He was born in Eastland. He was a veteran of World War II.
