Natividad Rodriguez
ODESSA — Natividad Rodriguez, 69, of Odessa died Monday, July 23, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital.
He was born Feb. 24, 1932, in Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico. He was a retired laborer and Catholic.
Mass will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2001, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Matthew Chackalackal officiating. Burial will be at the Ector County cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. today at Martinez Funeral Home Chapel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Natividad Rodriguez and Emiliana Chavez.
He is survived by his wife, Manuela Rodriguez of Odessa; son, Natividad Rodriguez Jr. of Odessa; daughters, Estela Gaona of Odessa, Rosa Waldrop of Rowlett, Martha Rodriguez of Odessa, Nellie Arellano of Odessa and Nancy Lara of Odessa; brothers, Lauro Rivera of El Paso, Raymond Rivera of El Paso and Joe Rivera of El Paso; sister, Teresa Lerma of San Pablo, Calif.; 20 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Neva P. Sherrod
SULPHUR SPRINGS — Neva P. Sherrod, formerly of Sulphur Springs and Bridgeport, passed away Saturday, July 14, 2001, at 8:50 p.m. at her new home in Mill Creek, Wash., with her beloved family by her side hand in hand. Neva, along with her daughter Karla and son-in-law Tom, moved to Washington in 2000 to enjoy life with her sister and to enjoy the adventure of the beautiful Washington scenery and weather.
Neva was born Jan. 27, 1932, to Ira and Esther Pool in Richland. On Feb. 11, 1950, she married the man of her dreams, Richard Karl Sherrod, who preceded her in death Dec. 14, 1997. Now these two will forever spend eternity together just as they were always meant to be.
Neva was a member of Davis Street Baptist Church in Sulphur Springs and a former member of the Newcomers Club in Sulphur Springs. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a past mother advisor of the International Order of Rainbow for Girls, both in Huntington Beach, Calif. Neva was also a former Beta Sigma Phi member. While living in Bridgeport, she was on the Wise County Domestic Violence Task Force Board of Directors.
Her husband, Richard; an infant son, Richard Dale; her parents, Ira and Esther Pool; and her twin brother, Neal Pool, preceded her in death.
Neva is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Karla and Tom Kirkland of Mill Creek, Wash., formerly of Sulphur Springs and Bridgeport; two grandsons, Charles Herford of Midland and David Kirkland of Fort Worth; a granddaughter, Carissa Ward of Birthright; and two great-grandchildren, Ryan and Linda Ward of Birthright. Her loving sister and brother-in-law, Nalda and Don Hampton of Mill Creek, also survive her. Other loving survivors include brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dale and Dian Sherrod of San Antonio, David and Linda Sherrod of Jacksboro, James Smith of Springtown and Johnnie June Yanez of Fort Worth. A host of loving nieces and nephews, as well as many wonderful friends, also survive her.
Karla and Tom ask that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Hospice of Snohomish County, 2731 Wetmore Ave., Fifth Floor, Everett, Wash., 98201, for the wonderful and loving care they gave to her mother.
Family visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2001, at West Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2001, at West Oaks Funeral Home in Sulphur Springs with inurnment following at Sulphur Springs City cemetery. Following the service, lunch will be served at the home of Rick and Elise Brewer, Rt. 2, Box 112, in Sulphur Springs. Call (903) 488-9015 for directions.

Genive Grisham
EL PASO — Genive Grisham, 90, passed away Thursday, Aug. 2, 2001, at Horizon Care Center in El Paso. She was born June 11, 1911, in Rochester, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, B.W. Grisham.
She is survived by her son, Charlie Grisham of Odessa; daughters, Liz Holt of El Paso and Sue Koppel of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today, Aug. 4, 2001, at Evergreen cemetery.
Arrangements are by Martin Funeral Home.

Charles Graham Pace
ODESSA — Charles Graham Pace, 62, of Odessa passed away Thursday, Aug. 2, 2001, at Scenic Mountain Hospital in Big Spring. He was born Oct. 9, 1938, in Williamsville, Miss. He had lived in Odessa since 1950. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Pace and Carrie Bell Edwards, and brother, Paul Pace.
Survivors are his sister, Rita Evans and husband Charles of Odessa; aunt, Mary Elizabeth Scholl of Odessa; nieces, Robbie Maass and husband Wayne and Tammy Crouch and husband Terry; nephew, Kelly Evans and wife Beverly; great-nephews, Josh, Chase Crouch, David Maass, Bryan and Chance Evans; great-nieces, Randi Prieto, Lyndsey Maass, Jessica Crouch and Kelly Stewart; and great-great-nieces, Andriana and Destiny Prieto and McKenzie Stewart.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, Aug. 4, 2001, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Thomason officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Winford Wilson Whalen
ODESSA — Winford Wilson Whalen, 84, of Odessa died Thursday morning Aug. 2, 2001.
He was born Feb. 8, 1917, in Melvin to William Thomas and Ellen Marada Whalen.
He moved to Smackover, Ark., in 1922, after the death of his mother. Mr. Whalen graduated from Smackover High School and received a football scholarship to play for Arkansas A&M University. While attending college, he joined the National Guard and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands for 32 months at Hog Island. He later served his country overseas with the 70th Infantry Division, where he was wounded in battle in France. He was honorably discharged from the Army in December 1942.
He made his home in Odessa with his wife where he raised his two sons, Carey and Denn. He was a beloved father and grandpa who will be missed greatly by his family, friends and granddaughters.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge 717, Smackover, Ark., as a Master Mason, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Plumbers and Pipefitters Union No. 558 and the Odessa Moose Lodge.
He is survived by his two sons, Carey Whalen and Denn Whalen and his wife Cheri, all of Odessa; granddaughters, Lindsay Whalen, Page Whalen, Christian Whalen and Ellis Whalen; his brothers, Gilford Denn Whalen of Homer, La., and W.T. Whalen of Baton Rouge, La.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, at Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Cheryl Homsher officiating. Masonic graveside rites will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church in Odessa.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Beryl Polley Petrosky
ODESSA — Beryl Polley Petrosky, 80, of Odessa passed away Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001, at her residence. She was born Aug. 9, 1920, in Lockhart. She married Clarence S. Petrosky on April 16, 1938, in New Braunfels. He preceded her in death Jan. 13, 1995.
Mrs. Petrosky moved to Odessa in 1957 from Blanco. She was a retired bookkeeper. She was a founding member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.
She was also preceded in death by her father, William Stadler Polley.
She is survived by son, Craig Petrosky and wife Diana of Odessa; daughter, Vickie Kilian of Odessa; mother, Una Polley of Blanco; brothers, L.B. Polley of Buda and Billy Polley of Naples; sisters, Doris Johnson of Red Oak and Helen Schaeferkoeter; two grandchildren, Stephanie Long and Jennifer Wyatt; and two great-grandchildren, Brett Long and Scarlett Long.
Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today, Aug. 3, 2001, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church with Father James Bridges and Father Mark Woodruff officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Arnold Schaeferkoeter, James Etheridge, Dale Polley, Brett Petrosky, Mark Petrosky and Jerry Johnson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Catholic Charities or Home Hospice.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Frank Lyles
ODESSA — Frank Lyles died Sunday, July 22, 2001, in Odessa.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at Cottonflat Baptist Church with the Rev. Pete Campbell officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
Frank Lyles was born Aug. 9, 1921, in Slato to Lunnie and Margie Lyles. He lived in Rogers until he went into the Army, where he served in the Medical Detachment. He received a Purple Heart, Campaign Medal with Bronze Stars and several others. He served for five years.
On April 9, 1953, he married Gertie Register in Lovington, N.M. They moved to Midland in the latter part of 1953 and worked for Agnes Restaurant for the following 26 years. Frank was a member of Cottonflat Baptist Church.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Gertie Lyles; his parents; his daughter, Maudie Lou Summar; his three stepsons, Jerry Register, Don Register and Andy Register; his brother, Jessie Lyles; and his two sisters, Ana Lu Cattner and Cornelia Thorp.
He is survived by his son, Joe Lyles of Midland; his stepson, Wesley Register of Houston; 20 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Mary Bortzfield
CRANE — Mary Bortzfield, 85, of Crane died Saturday, July 21, 2001, at Midland Memorial Hospital and Medical Center.
The family will be receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, July 24, 2001, at Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Bob Petree officiating. Burial will follow at the Crane County cemetery.
Mrs. Bortzfield was born May 22, 1916, in Watkins, Okla. She was a graduate of Jenks High School in 1934. She married Evertt J. Bortzfield March 20, 1936, in Jenks, Okla. She had lived in Crane since February 1958. She was a member of the Crane Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband Evertt Feb. 4, 1989; a daughter, Mary June Bortzfield Sept. 13, 1941; and her parents, Orval and Edna Harley.
Survivors include a daughter, Teresa Bortzfield Clark and her husband Quay of Midland; a son, Evertt James “Jim” Bortzfield Jr. and his wife Debra of Dallas; a sister, Mildred Collums of Tulsa; seven grandchildren, Jimmy Bortzfield and Dustin Bortzfield, both of Lewisville, Christy (Clark) Eubank and her husband Rusty, Cathy (Clark) Day and her husband Bill, all of Odessa, Cindy (Clark) Barkley and her husband John of Houston, Jayson Whitlatch and Michelle Whitlatch, both of Dallas; and four great-grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Bortzfield, Dustin Bortzfield, Alec Sabo and Gary McQuerry.
A memorial has been set up for pediatric research in memory of Mary Bortzfield at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston. For information, call 1-800-525-5841.

Bobbie Barber
ODESSA — Bobbie Barber, 56, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.
She was born May 19, 1945, to Harvey and Nadine Dailey in Odessa. Her parents and her husband, Travis Barber, preceded her in death.
Graveside services are scheduled for 10 a.m. today, July 24, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Charles McIntyre officiating.
Survivors include her son, Scott Barber and wife Kim; a grandson, Brance Barber; and her great-uncle and aunt, Robert M. and Willie Greer, all of Odessa.
Services are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
