Carl E. Crouch
KERMIT — Carl E. Crouch, 95, of Kermit went to be with his God on Friday, Aug. 24, 2001. He was born in Dallas County April 28, 1906. He was a farmer in Oklahoma, a rancher and bronco rider in southern California, a worker in Tall Timerber, Calif., a miner in New Mexico and an oil field worker in Texas from which he retired in 1968. His father and mother moved from Dallas County to Marshall County, Okla., in 1919 by wagon. He met and wed his wife Myrtle there in 1928. She preceded him in death after 70 and a half years of marriage. Also preceding him in death was his daughter Alice Thornhill of Tulsa, Okla.
He is survived by his only son, Royce Crouch of Marble Falls; granddaughters, Kelly McKinney of Elkhart, Ind., Teri Evans of Tulsa, Toni Field of Rowland Heights, Calif., Cherry Severson of Banning, Calif., and Suzy Kim of Chino Hills, Calif.; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, at Belvue Baptist Church in Kermit with the Rev. Bobby Braswell officiating. Interment will follow at Kermit Memorial cemetery.

Santa Gonzales
ODESSA — Santa Rios Gonzales, 61, of Odessa, a homemaker, died Friday, Aug. 24, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital.

James Harrison
WACO — James H. Harrison, 87, of Odessa, a retired employee of El Paso Natural Gas, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, at Parks Methodist Retirement Village.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Perry Methodist cemetery near Waco. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
He was born in Otto. He was Baptist.

Jackass Andy
MCCAMEY — Jackass Andy, formerly David Thompson, 57, of Waxahachie, a truck driver, died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001.
A memorial service will be held at sundown Saturday east of McCamey near the big white memorial cross.
He was born in McCamey. He was a Navy veteran.
SURVIVORS: Son, Sgt. David Krystofiak of Germany; daughter, Vena Gay Leatherwood of Wink; and sister, Vena Thompson LeFever of Odessa.
James Harold Harrison
ODESSA — James Harold Harrison, 87, of Odessa passed away Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, at Parks Methodist Retirement Village. He was born Jan. 10, 1914, in Otto. He received his bachelor of business administration degree from Baylor University.
Mr. Harrison moved to Odessa in 1991 from Jal, N.M. He was a retired accountant for El Paso Natural Gas Co. and had worked in the plant operations office in Jal for 37 years.
He is survived by a brother, Marvin Harrison of Midland; two nephews; and three great-nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, at the Perry Methodist cemetery in Perry.
Mr. Harrison will lie in state at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home until noon today, Aug. 28, 2001.

Robert Lee 'Bob' Hyden
ANDREWS — Robert Lee “Bob” Hyden, 77, of Andrews was taken into the hands of his Lord Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001.
Bob was born May 23, 1924, in Corsicana to Myrtle Lee and Archie Hyden. Bob spent 10 years in the United States Marine Corps and served in World War II and the Korean War. He worked for Halliburton Services for 31 years, retiring in 1982. Following his retirement, Bob became an avid golfer and could be found most days on the golf course. Bob loved children and delighted in teasing them, especially his grandchildren. He was an active member of Means Memorial United Methodist Church and a volunteer for the American Cancer Society.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Maxine; by daughters, Barbara Wright of Denver City, Stormie Woodward of Manhattan, Kan., Deanna Jordan of Odessa and Karen Wimberley of Austin; sons, Robert Raymond Hyden of Monchs Corner, S.C., and Terry Wimberley of Andrews; brothers, Glen Hyden of Corpus Christi and Abner Hyden of Corsicana; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, at Means Memorial United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Community Care Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
Judy Harrington Pugh
ODESSA — On Aug. 15, 1942, Our Father in Heaven sent us a beautiful, kind and precious lady. On Aug. 26, 2001, God called His child home. While living on this earth, this Christian woman was a wonderful wife, devoted Mama, loving grandmother (DeeDo) and a great friend to many.
All who knew her will miss her greatly and will cherish always the precious memories that were shared. Her family was her proudest accomplishment.
She was a Baptist by faith. Those who knew her are at peace knowing that she is rejoicing in the heavens with Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Her parents, Amos and Glendora Harrington, and a brother, Amos Harrington Jr., preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, J.B. Pugh of Odessa; daughter, Lisa Pugh of Odessa; son, Coby Pugh and wife Tesi of Odessa; and three grandsons, Hunter J., Alexander John-Cade Pugh and Hayden Hayes Pugh.
Graveside services will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, in Camp Wood.

Walter Richard 'Dick' Richardson
ODESSA — Walter Richard “Dick” Richardson, 74, of Odessa passed away Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, at Hospice House. He was born Nov. 1, 1926, in Junction. He married
Almeda Paschal March 10, 1951, in Lovington, N.M.
Mr. Richardson moved to Odessa in 1946. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He retired from the Odessa Fire Department after 26 years of service. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and Parkview Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Almeda Richardson of Odessa; daughter, Karon Johnson of Midland; brother, Woodrow “Woody” Richardson of Odessa; sisters, Eunice Trousdale and Gloria Allsup, both of Odessa; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, at Parkview Church of Christ with Charles Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Jimmie Dale Swaim
ODESSA — Jimmie Dale Swaim, age 59, went to be with the Lord Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001. He was born Jan. 30, 1942, in Magazine, Ark.
Jimmie was the son of Grafton “Casey” and Maggie Swaim. He grew up in Jal, N.M., where he played football on the 1959 State Championship team. He met his wife, Jan, of Kermit Feb. 13, 1958. They were married
July 11, 1964. In 1965, they moved to Odessa where he remained and raised his family. He was a highly regarded chemist at General Tire, which is now Ameripol Synpol, for 36 years where he made many cherished friendships. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church for over 20 years. He will be remembered as a devoted and faithful husband, a highly respected father and a proud and loving “Pa, ” and he will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his father, Grafton Swaim of Hobbs, N.M.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Jan Swaim of Odessa; his son, Dan Swaim and his wife Kristi of Midland; his daughter, Gina Swaim of Dallas; his grandsons, Colten and Bryce; his mother, Maggie Swaim of Hobbs; his brother, Jerry and his wife Patsy of Midland; and his sister, Sharon Eaves and her husband Max of Denver City; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. today, Aug. 28, 2001, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with Pastor Jack Watkins of Temple Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at noon at the Kermit cemetery.

John Griffith
ODESSA — John R. Griffith, 78, of Odessa passed away Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001, in Garland.
John was born Aug. 4, 1923, in Olney. Retired from Sears Roebuck & Co, he was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Odessa.
John was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Irene Griffith, in June 2000, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rube Griffith, a sister, Ruby Webb, and two brothers, Perry Lamonte Griffith and Hershel Griffith.
He is survived by one son, the Rev. Paul Thompson and his wife, Gloria, of Odessa; two grandsons and their wives, Wayne and Stacey Thompson of Grapevine and Stuart and Lesli Thompson of Corinth; two sisters, Dorthy Gatlin of Stephenville and Janell Rector of Brownwood; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at First Assembly of God Church with the Revs. Gene Allen and Roger Griffith officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

'Coach' Raymond Newton
ODESSA — Raymond Newton, 81, of Odessa passed away Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, after a brief battle with lung cancer. He was born Oct. 12, 1919, in Marshall.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Aug 27, 2001, at Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Raymond Bugg of Community Care Hospice officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Ray was a football coach and teacher at Odessa High School for many years and D.E. Coordinator at Ector High School. He was a devoted husband, father, teacher and coach. He was well liked by faculty and students. Ray touched many lives and will be remembered by his “kids” as he always referred to his football team.
Ray’s family would like to express their thanks to Nurses Unlimited, West Texas Cancer Center and Community Care Hospice of Odessa and their devoted staff, who were with them all of the way. They offer special thanks to Manuel Rios, his nurse, who stayed with Ray until the end.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Linnie Gertrude Newton and W.C. Newton.
He is survived by his wife, Jerry Newton of Odessa; a daughter, Pat Winchell and husband Joe of Midland; two sons, David M. Newton, Tad Newton and wife Cheri, both of Odessa; four granddaughters, Mindy and Shelly Winchell and Chrissy and Ashley Newton; two brothers, O.E. “Red” Newton and wife Maxine of Odessa and Melvin Newton and wife Norma of Stephenville; and several nieces and nephews.
