KINGSLAND - Donald A. 'Don' McCoy, 58, of Kingsland, retired owner and operator of Donald A. McCoy Construction Co. in Monahans, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2001, in Temple.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Kingsland First Baptist Church with the Rev. Doug Lindley officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park in Burnet County. Arrangements by Putnam Funeral Home.
He was born in Bunkie, La., and had been a resident of Monahans. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

PECOS — Marie Brown, 89, of Ruidoso, N.M., a homemaker, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, in Alamogordo, N.M.

She was born in Nocona. She was Christian.

ODESSA — Bernard “Skip” Butts, 76, of Odessa, a retired employee of Texaco Inc., died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, at Hospice House.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Sunset Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Clark Racca officiating and Gerald Fugit assisting. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
He was born in Englewood, Kan., and moved to Odessa in 1977. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was Christian.

CRANE — Nina Eyler, 72, of Crane, a homemaker, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital.

She was born in Cumberland, Md., and was a resident of Crane since 1989.

ODESSA — Freda Augusta Ferrell, 94, of Odessa, a homemaker, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, at her residence.

FORT STOCKTON — Anita Terrazas Gutierrez, 84, of Fort Stockton, a homemaker, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, in Fort Stockton.

SILVER CITY, N.M. — Aaron Charles “Josh” Joslin, 77, of Silver City, N.M., a retired pilot in agricultural aviation, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, at his daughter’s home in Silver City.

He was born in Ozona and had been a resident of Odessa. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

KERMIT — Opal Young, 90, of Kermit, a homemaker, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001, at Terrace West Nursing Center in Midland.

She was born in Powderly and was a resident of Kermit for 55 years. She was Baptist.

ODESSA — Gloria Murray, 61, of Odessa died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001, at her residence.

Faye Hewitt
ODESSA — Faye Hewitt, 88, a homemaker, passed away Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001, at a Fort Worth hospital.
Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa.
Faye Hewitt was born May 7, 1913, in Coffeyville, Kan. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Odessa for many years where she taught Sunday school and was active in the WMU.
She was preceded in death by Pete Hewitt in 1980.
Survivors: Daughters, Marjorie Mize of Fort Worth and Billie Doyal and husband Marvin of Conroe; son, Jimmy Ray Hewitt of Odessa; granddaughters, Kimberly Briganti and Jana Phillips; grandsons, Craig Doyal and Kirk Doyal; great-granddaughters, Leigh Blevins, Lindsey Doyal and Jennifer Doyal; great-grandson, Brian Doyal; and great-great-granddaughter, Lindsey Blevins.

Jack Gwatney
ODESSA — Jack Gwatney, 75, of Odessa passed away Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born May 16, 1926, in Conway, Ark., to Sylvester and Georgia Gwatney. He married
Sue Roberts on Feb. 26, 1949, in Conway, Ark. He moved to Odessa in 1976. He served in the Navy during World War II.
Mr. Gwatney retired from the civil service. Jack was a man who loved life to its fullest. He loved the Lord with all his innermost. He touched everyone’s heart that he saw.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and two brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Gwatney of Odessa; three daughters, Gayla Lindsey and husband David, Susan Theaux and husband Jarrell and Lynn Werner and husband Steve, all of Odessa; a son, Greg Gwatney of Jacksonville, Ark.; grandchildren, Jacki King, Scott and T.J. Williams, Jason and William Griffin, David and Michael Werner; and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Dr. Ernest Easley officiating.

Vern Humphrey
MIDLAND — Vern Humphrey was born Nov. 11, 1928, in Oklahoma City, Okla., to Dudley H. Humphrey and Irene Boise Humphrey. He moved to Texas in September 1953, living in Pasadena, Deer Park, Beaumont, Arlington, Fort Worth and Midland County for 35 years. Mr. Humphrey served in the Navy from November 1945 until October 1947. He married
Martha Schmidt on April 6, 1953, in Grinnell, Kan. Mr. Humphrey worked for several corporations selling industrial gases and welding supplies. He was active in the Boy Scout program and was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, where he was an usher for many years. He was also a member of various dance organizations in Midland.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Humphrey of Midland; a son, John and daughter-in-law, Jean Humphrey; grandson, Joshua and granddaughter, Katie, all of Artesia, N.M.
Mr. Humphrey died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, at his Midland residence.
A vigil prayer will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel with family visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
