EL PASO — Dominga Martinez, 60, passed away Friday, Sept. 14, 2001. She was a resident of El Paso and a member of the Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lucio V. Lopez.
Mrs. Martinez is survived by her sons, Jose Luis Sanchez, Michael Lopez, Juan Martinez and James Edward Martinez, and a daughter, Deborah Lopez. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, brother, Mike Lopez, and sisters, Virginia Corrales, Leticia Lopez and Sandra Lopez-Velasco.
Pallbearers will be Jose Luis Sanchez, Michael Lopez, Juan Martinez, James Edward Martinez, Max Velasco, Vincent Sanchez and Mickey Corrales. Honorary pallbearer is Julio Venzor.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today with rosary at 7 p.m. at Mount Carmel Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at Guardian Angel Catholic Church. Interment will be at Mount Carmel cemetery.

Ascencion "Chona" T. Palomino
ODESSA — Ascencion “Chona” T. Palomino, 81, of Odessa passed away Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, at her residence.
She was born May 13, 1920, in Grandfalls to Abraham and Gabriela Tarin. She married
Andres Palomino on May 20, 1935, in Presidio. She was Catholic and a housewife.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andres Palomino; son, Nick Palomino; parents, Abraham and Gabriela Tarin; four brothers, Casimiro Tarin, Santiago Tarin, Francisco Tarin and Prajedes Tarin; and three sisters, Martha Tarin, Anastacia Tarin and Maria Tarin.
She is survived by her son, Fred Palomino of Roswell, N.M.; daughters, Hermina Luna of Odessa, Manuela Jacobo of Roswell, Lucia Garza of Odessa and Mary Munoz of Odessa; three brothers, Romaldo Tarin of Fort Stockton, Eulaterio Tarin of Imperial and Tetclo Tarin of Odessa; six sisters, Guadalupe Holguin of Odessa, Eustolia Moya of Odessa, Felicita Leal of Odessa, Carolina Tarin Vasquez of Odessa, Ernestina Gonzales of Odessa and Teresa Aguirre of Odessa; 27 grandchildren; 93 great-grandchildren; and 24 great-great-grandchildren.
Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. today, Sept. 18, 2001, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill cemetery. Rosary was said at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel.

Ruby Rankin
ODESSA — Ruby Rankin, 88, of Odessa passed away Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, at a local hospital.
She was born April 28, 1913, in Glasscock County to J.J. and Lora Phillips. She married
Thomas C. Rankin on June 15, 1934, in Glasscock County, and they moved to Odessa in 1937. She had been a member of First Baptist Church for over 60 years and had taught primary Sunday school class for many years.
Mrs. Rankin had worked for Sears, Roebuck and Co. for almost 20 years before her retirement.
Mrs. Rankin was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Olie Phillips, Johnny Phillips, Herbert Phillips and Victor Phillips; and two sisters, Gladys Yancey and Myrtle Tyree.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Thomas C. Rankin of Odessa; three sons, Leroy Rankin and his wife Norma of Odessa, Bob Rankin and his wife Donna of Mount Pleasant and Forrest Rankin and his wife Ellen of Odessa; a brother, Floyd Phillips of Hext; a sister, Ethel Cunningham of Booneville, Ark.; seven grandchildren, Sherri Johnson, Steve Rankin, Sandra Pundt, Shauna Rankin, Teresa Shelton, Danny Rankin and Brian Rankin; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. today, Sept. 18, 2001, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Ernest Easley officiating. Graveside services will follow at 2 p.m. today at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

HOBBS, N.M. — Beldon J. “Frenchie” Hukins Sr., 72, of Hobbs, N.M., a retired employee of Eunice Well Service, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, at Lea Regional Medical Center in Hobbs.

Robert William ‘Bobby’ Lance
ODESSA — Robert William “Bobby” Lance, 51, of Odessa passed away Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, at Hospice House of Odessa.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001, at Ector County cemetery Rose Hill Gardens with Chaplain Emmett Barnard officiating. Masonic rites will follow. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Martinez Funeral Home Chapel.
He was born Oct. 2, 1949, in Odessa and was a lifelong resident. He was a self-employed welder. He was a member of the Masonic Order.
He was preceded in death by his father, Sam Lance, and mother, Margaret Carpenter Lance.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Lance of Odessa; sons, Sammuel Johnathan Lance (Jennifer) and Robert William Lance II (Tresa), both of Odessa; sister, Cheryl Cummins of Odessa; and two grandchildren.

Myrtle Markham McClure
MIDLAND — Memorial services are to be for Myrtle M. McClure at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001, at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Midland with the Rev. Glenda Harbert officiating. Ellis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. McClure died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, following a lengthy illness.
She was born June 1, 1905, in Camden, Tenn., to James and Rhonda Markham.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, six brothers, her husband, J.H. McClure (a lease broker and right-of-way agent), and two grandchildren, Greg Baker and Kelsey Logan.
Mrs. McClure’s first husband died at the age of 28. From this union were born two children, Charles E. Patteson and Jane Patteson Baker.
Myrtle and “Mac” were married
four years later and had two sons, J.H. McClure Jr. and Phillip Blair McClure.
Myrtle is survived by her children and their spouses, 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and nephew, J.T. Thompson of Camden, Tenn.
Myrtle was a charter member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, held offices there and benefited greatly from a long and loving fellowship with its wonderful people.

Dr. Shelby Lee Brumelle
VANCOUVER, British Columbia — Shelby Lee Brumelle, 62, of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, passed away Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, after a brief but courageous struggle with cancer.
Memorial services were held Friday, Sept. 21, 2001, at the Unitarian Church of Vancouver.
Shelby was born in Oklahoma and raised in Odessa and graduated from Odessa High School in 1957. Shelby graduated from the California Institute of Technology with a degree in mathematics and from the University of California at Berkeley with a Ph.D. in industrial engineering and operations research.
Shelby joined the faculty of Commerce, University of British Columbia, Canada, in 1969 as a member of the management science division (operations and logistics) and worked in that division as a professor emeritus until his retirement June 30, 2000. Shelby made many valuable contributions to the Commerce faculty through his scholarship, scientific publications, through teaching and supervision of students and through his administrative efforts including the chair of the management science division. His dedication to teaching touched and influenced many lives.
He is survived by his wife, Karen; sons, Colin and Justin; his mother, Leota Brumelle of Odessa; and two brothers, Kendell of Evergreen, Colo., and Kenneth of Odessa.
