PECOS - Jose 'Matita' N. Mata, 82, of Pecos, a retired farm laborer, died Sunday, July 22, 2001, at Reeves County Hospital in Pecos.
Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. today at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with the Rev. Mike Alcuino officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood cemetery. Arrangements by Martinez Funeral Home.
He was born in Lubbock and was a lifelong resident of Pecos. He was Catholic.
SURVIVORS: Sons, Francisco B. Mata, Gonzalo B. Mata and Jose I. Mata, all of Pecos, Dulces N. Mata and Felix B. Mata, both of Odessa; daughters, Ninfa B. Mata and Maria Dolores Mata, both of Pecos, Ruth Szoke of Little Rock, Calif., and Lucy Salinas of Artesia, N.M.; 30 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

Raul Rodriguez
WESLACO - Raul Sanchez Rodriguez, 50, of Weslaco, regional manager of Whataburger Restaurants in Weslaco, died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at his residence.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Faith Church of Christian and Missionary Alliance with J. Rene Vega officiating. Burial will be at Highland Memorial Park. Arrangements by McCaleb Funeral Home.
He was born in Fort Stockton. He was Christian.
SURVIVORS: Wife, Nita Rodriguez of Weslaco; son, Raul A. Rodriguez of Weslaco; daughter, Amy Rodriguez-Amancio of Lubbock; mother, Molly S. Rodriguez of Odessa; brothers, Blas Rodriguez of Denver City, Edward Rodriguez of El Paso and Albert Rodriguez Jr. of Midland; sisters, Melly Najar and Angie Kirschner, both of Odessa; and three grandchildren.

Doris Shipman
LUBBOCK - Doris Shipman, 87, of Lubbock, retired owner of Paint Daubers Studio in Odessa, died Monday, July 23, 2001, in Lubbock.
Services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Green Lawn Church of Christ with Dale Mannon officiating. Burial followed at Resthaven Memorial Park cemetery. Arrangements by Resthaven Funeral Home.
She was born in Devine and had been a resident of Odessa. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
SURVIVORS: Sons, James Louis Shipman Jr. of Abilene, Bob Sutphen and Bill Hoffman, both of Lubbock; daughters, Joyce Sutphen and Doris Hoffman, both of Lubbock; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Hardy Van Deman
ODESSA - Hardy D. Van Deman, 86, of Odessa, a retired oilfield pumper, died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Melvin Warren officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
He was born in Palestine and moved to Odessa in 1967. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was Baptist.
SURVIVORS: Wife, Effie Van Deman of Odessa; sons, Kenneth Ray Van Deman of San Angelo, Erwin Eugene Van Deman of Atlanta and Doyle Wayne Van Deman of Friendswood; daughter, Karen Elaine Stephens of Texas City; brother, Joshua Peterson Van Deman Jr. of Oklahoma City; sisters, Mary Etta Rampy of Cayuga and Joslyn Scott of Hobbs, N.M.; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

ODESSA - Matthew Lummus, 41, of Odessa died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at his residence.
Services are pending with Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

ODESSA - John Steadmon, 92, of Odessa died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital. Services are pending with Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Frankie Davis Jr.
FORT STOCKTON — Frankie B. Davis Jr., 41, of Fort Stockton, a small equipment repairman, died Tuesday, July 10, 2001, in Fort Stockton.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. David Herrera officiating. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday at Fort Stockton Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at the Fort Stockton Catholic cemetery. Arrangements by Fort Stockton Funeral Home.
He was born in Northridge, Calif., and was a resident of Fort Stockton since 1983. He was Catholic.
SURVIVORS: Mother, Anita Davis of Fort Stockton; brother, Robert Davis of Phoenix; and sisters, Mira Davis, Barbara Agular and Lori Gallegos, all of Canoga Park, Calif.

Lucio Florez
BARSTOW — Lucio B. Florez, 50, of Barstow, a measurement technician for Sid Richardson Carbon and Energy Co., died Tuesday, July 10, 2001, in Barstow.
Mass will be celebrated at 4 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church with the Rev. Manuel Munoz officiating. Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. today at Pecos Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at the Barstow cemetery. Arrangements by Pecos Funeral Home.
He was born in Barstow and was a lifelong resident. He was Catholic.

KERMIT — Lena Gilstrap, 83, of Greeley, Colo., a homemaker, died Friday, July 6, 2001, at Centennial Healthcare Center in Greeley.
Graveside services will be at 9 a.m. today at the Kermit cemetery with Brian McGonagill officiating. Arrangements by Cooper Funeral Chapel.
She was born in Goodland, Kan. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
SURVIVORS: Sons, Buddie Gilstrap of San Diego and Gordon Gilstrap of Loveland, Colo.; sister, Jean Brodsky of Bay City; five grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pearl Holifield
LAUREL, Miss. — Pearl Wena Rustin Holifield, 86, of Laurel, Miss., a homemaker, died Friday, June 29, 2001, at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel.
Services were July 2 at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Harrison officiating. Burial was at Mill Creek cemetery. Arrangements by Memory Chapel Funeral Home.
She was born in Laurel and had been a resident of McCamey. She was Baptist.

ODESSA — Henry J. Mariscal Jr., an infant, of Odessa died Friday, July 6, 2001, at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas.

He was born in Odessa. He was Catholic.
