KERMIT — Charles “Cactus Chuck” A. Helmer Jr., 72, of Kermit, a retired business owner, died Tuesday, July 10, 2001, in Kermit.

He was born in Grand Rapids, Mich.

STROUD, Okla. — Elisia Abigail Pierson, 91, of Stroud, Okla., a retired waitress and cook, died Wednesday, July 11, 2001, in Shawnee, Okla.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Stroud Church of Christ with Loren Gieger officiating. Burial will be at the Stroud cemetery. Arrangements by Parks Brothers Funeral Service.
She was born in Apache, Okla., and was a resident of Stroud since 1963. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

F.B. Dodson
ODESSA — F.B. Dodson, 70, of Odessa passed away Thursday, June 28, 2001, at his residence. He was born Jan. 17, 1931, in Oklahoma City, Okla. He married
Juanita Faye Watkins on Aug. 5, 1950, in Monahans.
Mr. Dodson moved to Odessa in 1950 from Monahans. He worked for TXU Electric for 42 years. He was a member of the American Legion and Resurrection Methodist Church. He was an Air Force veteran and was involved with the Boy Scouts of America for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita Dodson of Odessa; two sons, J.P. Dodson and wife Twyla of Odessa and Jimmy Dodson and wife Lynn of Odessa; two grandchildren, Jon and Michael; and his pet granddog, Taffy.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 30, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jimmy Cameron officiating. Family and friends are invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Boy Scouts of America or Resurrection Methodist Church.

Minnie Lea ‘Jinx’ Schmidt Perry
ODESSA — Minnie Lea “Jinx” Schmidt Perry, 68, of Odessa passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born Jan. 22, 1933, in Estancia, N.M. She married
Tilmon “Pee Wee” Perry on Jan. 10, 1950, in Idalou. Mrs. Perry moved to Odessa in 1950. She was a home manager and a member of the Idalou Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers.
She is survived by her husband, Tilmon Perry of Odessa; four daughters, Debra Underwood and husband Mike of Odessa, Pam Robbins of Odessa, Tanya Chapman and husband Rod of Houston and Kelli Love and husband Jim of Rockwall; three sisters, Francis Williams of Beaumont, Chris Graves of Lake Worth and Betty Nafzger and husband Jay of Amarillo; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 30, 2001, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Preston Weatherly officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Mary Tyree
ODESSA — Mary Estelle Tyree, 79, of Odessa, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2001, at Avalon Place.
Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Melvin Warren of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mary was born in Colorado City on March 31, 1922, to Luther and Viola Winberry Gaskins. She married
Thomas Tunstall Tyree on July 2, 1942, in San Angelo and they moved to Odessa in 1951. Her parents; a brother, Lynton Gaskins; and two sisters, Vera Neuland and Doris Newman preceded her in death.
Mary Tyree was a member of the American Poetry Society and had published both Christian music and poetry. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
Mary was a devout Christian; she loved her church and the Lord. She devoted her time to Christian poetry and music. Mary never had a bad thought.
Survivors include her son, Terry T. Tyree and wife Carla of Odessa; a brother, Conrad Gaskins of West Monroe, La.; a daughter-in-law, Judy Tyree; three grandchildren, Tiffany Tyree Barnes, Heather Diane Smith and Hilary Tyree; and a great-granddaughter, Hanna Renault.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to Home Hospice or Meals on Wheels.
Pallbearers for the service will be Jim McKay, Mac McLemore, Kenny Broyles, Sonny Henderson, Daren Webster and Marilyn McVean. Honorary pallbearers are Vern Foreman and Conrad Roberson.

Ruth “Cuca” Rodriguez
ODESSA — Ruth “Cuca” Rodriguez, age 74, of Odessa peacefully witnessed the face of God on Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at approximately 4:30 p.m. She was born in Seguin on May 5, 1927, and moved to Odessa in 1947 with her husband Doroteo Rodriguez. They were married
June 18, 1946.
Ruth had spent the majority of her life bringing people to the Lord. Her apostleship has been an example for many. Her ministry included the founding of the Charismatic movement in the Catholic community in Odessa in 1968. She coordinated “Life in the Spirit” sermons and participated in Charismatic conferences both as a leader and speaker. She served in all phases of lay ministry in the Catholic Church, and her most recent role was serving in the San Angelo Diocese as the Midland and Odessa Deanery representative for “Servant of the Servants.” She was best known by her family and friends for her ability to always serve and help those in need.
Cuca was a tender, loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her children will remember her for all the great meals she prepared with love. Grandma was their “Ally.”
She was preceded in death by a son, Dan Doroteo Rodriguez on Sept. 26, 1986, and her parents, Juan and Consuelo Barrientes.
She is survived by her husband, Doroteo Rodriguez of Odessa; sons, Leo L. Rodriguez of El Paso and Barney Albert Rodriguez of Corpus Christi; daughter, Dorothy Pepper and husband Steve of Odessa; brother, Henry Barrientes and wife Tomasa of Odessa; 10 grandchildren, Roland, Roxie, Yuri, Luke, Ty, Leslie, Leo, Steven, Ashley and Forrest; and two great-grandchildren, Christian and Samuel.
Rosary will be said at noon today, June 28, 2001, at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors, and she will lie in state at 5 p.m. today at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church before the Mass. Mass will be celebrated at 7 p.m. today at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with the Revs. Bernard Gully and Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
