C.R. “Rye” Rylander
IRAAN — C.R. “Rye” Rylander, 87, of Iraan died Monday, July 2, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, July 4, 2001, at the Iraan High School auditorium in Iraan with the Revs. David Weyant and Rick Parker officiating. Burial will follow at the Restland cemetery with services under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Chapel of Iraan.
Mr. Rylander was born Nov. 12, 1913, in Port Lavaca. He was a resident of Iraan since 1949. He was a World War II Army veteran serving in the 90th infantry. He was the owner of the Rye Oilfield Supply Co. He was a member of the American Legion and was very active in his community. He was a faithful Braves fan and was a member of First United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Rylander in 1995; a son, William David Rylander in 1941; three brothers, Mack Wesley Rylander, John Wesley Rylander and Weldon Rylander; and three sisters, Mary Bonorden, Ollie Selby and Clara Wren.
Survivors include his daughter, Cindy Lutz and her husband Norman of Iraan; a son, Rick Rylander and his wife Mary of Iraan; and five grandchildren, Brian Lutz, Brent Lutz, Ryan Rylander, Drew Rylander and Cory Rylander, all of Iraan.

Nola Margaret
ODESSA — Nola Margaret (Hinds) Henderson, 84, of Odessa passed away Saturday, June 23, 2001, at her residence. Mrs. Henderson was born Jan. 17, 1971, in Winters, Texas, to Nugent C. and Bessie Hinds. She married
the late Travis William Moreland on Dec. 26, 1936, in Ballinger. They lived most of their married
life in Odessa.
Mrs. Henderson married
the late Robert S. Henderson on Dec. 31, 1963, in San Angelo. He preceded her in death in 1985.
Mrs. Henderson graduated from Odessa College as an LVN and practiced at Shannon Hospital and Park Plaza Nursing Home in San Angelo until her retirement in 1983. She was a member of the YMCA Rocker-ettes, a seniors line dancing group, and had been a founding member of the Friendship Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 1008.
She is survived by one sone, Duane Moreland and his wife, Judith, of Odessa; one daughter, Glenda Nix Ball and her husband, Brian, of Dallas; one stepson, Robert S. Henderson Jr. and his wife, Pam, of San Angelo; two brothers, J. Norris Hinds of Odessa and James E. Hinds of Belton; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Public visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, June 25, 2001, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Funeral services are scheduled at 3 p.m. Monday, June 25, 2001, at the Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at Fair Mount cemetery, San Angelo, Texas.

Bill Hext
Billy Robert Hext, 61, of Odessa, came into this world on Aug. 25, 1939, in Pampa, Texas, to John Cecil and Mildred McPherson Hext, and he went home to be with his Lord on June 20, 2001. While we miss him greatly, we rejoice in the assurance that he is now with Jesus in his Heavenly home.
His love for Odessa began at the age of 10. After graduating from Odessa High School in 1957, he served in the Marine Reserve for eight years. Bill married
Melanie Jane Murrell of Odessa, his wife of 42 years, on Feb. 3, 1959.
Bill’s career was spent in the oil industry. After serving several years as the President of Woolley Tool and its parent company, Chromalloy, Bill left to found PEP Inc. with long-time friend and partner, B.D. Berryhill of Odessa. From 1981 to 1997. Bill managed a thriving business throughout the ups and downs of the oil industry. In 1997, Bill and B.D. sold PEP Inc. to National Oilwell Corp. Bill and Jane established the Hext Family Foundation and Heritage Family Limited Partnership in June 1998. The foundation’s purpose is to advance cancer research, promote vocational education and support Christian charities. The foundation serves as a perpetual example of the generous spirit of Bill Hext. Bill’s new business ventures included Positive Impact Waste Procedures Inc, Legacy Golf Corporation, Heritage Properties and Vista Residential Development Corp.
In 1998, Bill continued to serve the community he loved as city councilman from District 2. Two years later, Bill was elected mayor of Odessa. Bill loved representing the people of Odessa, and he did so with great humor, love and compassion.
His visionary leadership and his efforts to unify Odessa and Midland are highlights of his political legacy.
To all his endeavors, Bill brought his faith. He was a member and served as an elder of Grace Christian Fellowship Church. He proudly told of his relationship with Christ and how it shaped his life and his family.
Bill is survived by: his wife Jane, his two daughters, Melinda Spencer and her husband Tim of Midland, Texas, and Susan Palmer and her husband Mark, also of Midland, Texas; his parents, Cecil and Mildred Hext of Odessa; his sisters, Kay Murry of Eastland, Texas, and Edna Williams of Mexia, Texas; and five grandchildren, Ben, Andrew and Rachel Spencer, and Preston and Samuel Palmer.
Within the hearts of his family, friends, business associates and many, many more, Bill lives on. The good seeds he planted during his time here will continue to grow and be a blessing.
Public visitation will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. today, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and from 8 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. today and from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at First Baptist Church of Odessa. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens cemetery under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Phyllis Ann Boswell
Phyllis Ann Boswell left this world and her pain and suffering, and entered the Kingdom of God at 10:25 on June 22, 2001.
She was born Phyllis Ann Matzke on April 2, 1922, and married
Robert G. Boswell on March 30, 1947. She is survived by him and four children: sons, Dennis Boswell of Fort Worth, Fred Boswell of Waxahachie, daughters, Marsha Graham and Patty Stringer, both of Odessa.
Phyllis was the loving grandmother of seven, and she was great-grandmother of seven. Phyllis will be greatly missed by her family and friends. To know her was to love her. We love you, Mom.
Memorial services will be at noon on Monday, June 25, 2001, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Tim Sternberg officiating.

Geneva Frances Renick
Geneva Frances Renick, 82, of Odessa, passed away Thursday, June 21, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born January 19, 1919, to James and Lucille Hughes in Wirt, Okla. Her parents, her husband, A. L. “Frog” Renick, daughter, Carolyn Vickers, and grandson, Vincent McClinton, all precede her in death.
Geneva married
A. L. “Frog” Renick, Nov. 17, 1940, in Ringland, Okla., and they moved here in 1958 from Hobbs, N.M. She was a homemaker who enjoyed baking, and was Baptist.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Monday, June 25, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Jim Ray Brown officiating.
Survivors include her son, Samuel Renick of Choctaw, Okla.; daughters, Sharon Frye and Bobbye Goodson, both of Odessa; grandchildren, Tina Smith, Lisa Smith, Victor Goodson, Jackie Daniels, Jay Daniels, Tony McClinton, Richard McClinton, and Michael Renick; and great-grandchildren, Charles Smith III, Beau McClinton, Danielle Daniels, Chase McClinton, Tommy McClinton, Megan McClinton, Zachary Goodson, Dillion Goodson, Brooklyn McClinton and Bahleigh McClinton.

Simona Cabrera Jacobo
ODESSA — Simona Cabrera Jacobo of Odessa, 102 years of age, was called home by our heavenly father on Friday, June 22, 2001. She was born Oct. 8, 1898, in Calera, Zacatecas, Mexico.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jose Jacobo; sons, Cresencio and Jesus Jacobo; and grand-daughter, Beatrice Jacobo.
She is survived by her daughter Teresa Molina and husband Jim; as well as her sons, Sostenes Jacobo and wife Amanda, Anselmo C. Jacobo and wife Viola, Felipe Jacobo and wife Virginia, and Frank Jacobo and wife Hope, all of Odessa. She had 29 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their most sincere appreciation for the special care and affection shown to our beloved mother by everyone at Deerings Nursing Home; to friend of the family, Gregorio Fragoza; and to all who showed kindness and love to our dear Simona during her long life.
Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, June 25, 2001, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Francis X. Frey officiating. Burial will follow at Ector County cemetery.

Bernice Baze
ODESSA — Bernice Baze, 78, died Friday, June 22, 2001, at her residence. She was born March 18, 1923, in Fort Payne, Ala., to Eugene and Tressie Alford.
Mrs. Baze worked for Sunshine Laundry, was a Baptist and came to Odessa in 1955 from Seminole.
She married
L.C. Baze on Oct. 23, 1943, in Seagraves. He passed away in 1983.
Mrs. Baze is survived by her daughter, Frances Yarborough and husband Johnny Baze of Odessa; her three brothers, Willard Elrod and Noble Elrod, both of Odessa, and Calvin Elrod of Katy; her three sisters, Mamie White of Ashville, N.C., Mozelle Dees of Katy and Mildred Sullivan of Alex, Okla.; three grandchildren, Rebecca Yarborough, Melvin Yarborough and wife, Iris, and Johnette Sledge and husband, Kenneth, all of Odessa; and five great-grandchildren, Savanna, Kendra, Kenneth, Tyler and Jessica, all of Odessa.
She was preceded in death by her husband and three brothers, Erston Elrod, Coy Lee Elrod and Jerry Donald Elrod.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 25, 2001, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Bobby Phillips officiating.

JoLynn Watson
JoLynn Watson, 56, of Austin, passed away on June 22, 2001.
JoLynn was born in Beaumont, Texas, on Aug. 15, 1944, to Oris and Bobbie Jean Blanco. She lived in Austin for seven years and her former place of residence was Odessa, Texas.
JoLynn was an unconditionally giving mother and sister. She was of strong character and extremely self sufficient. She was an inspiration to all because she had a tremendous sense of humor and was a fun, loving person. She enjoyed the outdoors and loved animals. She had a passion for gardening. Her battle with cancer was short, but valiant.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her daughter, Laurie Lynn Watson of Austin; her son, Kirk Watson of Fort Worth; sister, Susan Legnion of Beaumont; and sister, Bonnie Thompson of Katy; three nieces, three nephews, three great-nieces and many loving friends.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, June 25, 2001, at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home.
