Jerry C. Walters
ODESSA - Jerry C. Walters, 42, of Odessa passed away Saturday, March 16, 2002, in Rocksprings. Mr. Walters was born Feb. 24, 1959, in Iraan.
Jerry spent the early years of his life with his parents in Midland where he attended West Elementary and played little league. His sister remembers how agile he was doing flips on the trampoline. He also loved to roam the hills in Crockett County with his beloved Aunt Evelyn and went deer hunting with Uncle Russell.
When Jerry was 10 years old, his father, James, died, and he was a supreme comfort to his mother, Mildred, until the time of her death three years later. After his mother’s death, he moved to Odessa and was raised by his older sister Nedra and her husband Rodney McDonald with children Ronnie Osborne and Marc McDonald. He attended Hood Junior High and graduated from Permian High School in 1978.
After high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served in Colorado Springs, Colo., where he enjoyed learning to ski and at Eileson Air Force Base in Alaska where he loved to watch the glorious display of the Northern Lights. Jerry completed Air Force service in 1983 and joined siblings, Martha and Nedra, for a visit at brother Jim’s in California.
He returned to Odessa and married
Vivian Robbins on March 31, 1984, and helped raise Vivian’s daughter LeCrishina. Their daughter Dara was born Jan. 10, 1986, and was her father’s pride and joy. Vivian and Jerry were divorced in 1988.
Jerry loved to sing and care for animals. He was an avid fisherman. He loved to play softball and coached his daughter’s little league team.
He was currently employed by Halliburton Services while concurrently serving in the National Guard. His unit had been recently deployed to guard the U.S.-Mexico border. He had also worked in West Texas for Consolidated Electrical Distributors and the Texas Department of Transportation.
He is survived by his daughter, Dara Dawn Walters of Naples, Fla.; a brother, James A. Walters III of North Hollywood, Calif.; two sisters, Nedra McDonald and her husband Rodney of Odessa and Martha Barber and her husband Richard of Anchorage, Alaska.
Public visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. today, March 20, 2002, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, March 21, 2002, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Clydel Chapman officiating. Military graveside honors will be conducted at 4 p.m. Thursday at Fairmount cemetery in San Angelo under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

W.D. Martin
LUBBOCK - Graveside services will be held for W.D. Martin, 57, of Euless at 3:30 p.m. today, March 20, 2002, at the City of Lubbock cemetery in Lubbock. The Rev. Jack Thompson will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of White Funeral Home of Lubbock where the family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. today.
He died Sunday, March 17, 2002. He was born June 29, 1944, in Lampasas. He graduated from Reagan County High School in Big Lake and from Texas Tech University. He was self-employed as a certified public accountant in Euless.
Survivors include a son, Mike Martin; a daughter, Casey Martin, both of Lubbock; his parents, Leona and Wayne Jones of Big Lake; three sisters, Gayle Gray of Wichita Falls, Waynette Foster of Big Lake and Deona Thompson of Fort Worth; and three grandsons, Ryan, Reed and Riley Martin of Lubbock.
Sterling Harding
KERMIT - Sterling Franklin “Spec” Harding, a lifelong resident of Wink, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2002, at his residence. He was 68. Spec was born Dec. 14, 1933, in Wink to Conley and Anna Harding. He married
Linda Lou Norton on Dec. 4, 1955. She preceded him in death in 1999. Spec worked for years in the oilfield and ran Kermit Television Repair until his illness took over. Spec was an Army veteran and a Methodist.
Spec was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Norton Harding; his mother, Anne LaVera Blakeney Harding; his father, Conley Houston Harding; and sisters, Wanda Faye Harding McClellan, Gloria Ann Harding Harris and Kathryn Sue Harding Wiltshire.
He is survived by his daughter, Joela Ruth Harding Smith; grandson, Chance D. Smith; brother, Horace Houston Harding; sisters, Betty Harding Dennis and Charlotte Harding Rodriguez; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2002, at the Kermit cemetery. Harkey Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Genovevo Ruben Dominguez
ODESSA - Genovevo Ruben Dominguez, 44, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2002, in Juarez, Mexico. He was born Jan. 3, 1958, in Durango, Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Casimira Munoz.
He is survived by his stepfather, Arturo A. Munoz; his daughter, Adriana; sons, Geno, Arturo, Jose, Ruben and Martin; sisters, Juana, Queta, Rosa and Sylvia; and brothers, Estevan, Felipe and Paco.
Mass will be celebrated at 5:30 p.m. today, March 23, 2002, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Rosary will follow at 7 p.m. at St. Anthony’s Chapel.
Dave Henon Farmer Jr.
ODESSA - Dave H. Farmer Jr., 74, went to be with the Lord on March 18, 2002. He was born Dec. 20, 1927, in Oklahoma to Dave H. and Irene Howard Farmer. He married
Betty Jo Watts of Sheridan, Ind., in January 1949.
His occupation as tool and die maker brought him to Texas in 1956 and to West Texas in 1970. He worked for Meter Service and Supply Co. in Odessa and opened his own business, BJF Screw Products Co., in 1984 until his retirement in 1990. He enjoyed fishing and gardening.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Sherrie Morris and Tammie Farmer; his parents; and a sister, Delano Billingsley of Arkansas.
He is survived by his wife and five children, John Kenneth Farmer of Lodi, Calif., George Morris of Lovington, N.M., Larry Morris, Davetta Burns and Mikel Farmer of Midland; three brothers, Robert Farmer of Michigan, Carl Farmer of Arkansas and Daniel Farmer of Indiana; a sister, Fern Lukens of Indiana; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
He was a kind, loving man and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
A private service will be conducted in Burleson.

Susana Aguirre
ODESSA - Susana L. Aguirre, 73, of Odessa, a homemaker, died Saturday, March 16, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
She was born in Candelaria and moved to Odessa in 1959. She was Catholic.

Ila Gartman
AUSTIN - Ila Faye Gartman, 77, of Bell County, a retired teacher, died Saturday, March 16, 2002, in Fort Davis.

She was born in Youngsport. She was Baptist.

ODESSA - Ismael Martinez, 71, of Odessa, a retired janitor, died Saturday, March 16, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital.

He was born in Coyame, Mexico, and was a lifelong resident of Odessa. He was Catholic.

Curtis Mayes Jr.
ANDREWS - Curtis Mayes Jr., 56, of Albuquerque, N.M., an electrician for Sturgeon Electric Co. in Albuquerque, died Friday, March 15, 2002, in Albuquerque.

He was born in Powderly. He was an Army veteran. He was Baptist.

ODESSA - Jim James, 65, of Odessa died Monday, March 18, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital.

Viola Josephine Tkac Holiman
SAN ANGELO - Viola Josephine Tkac Holiman, 86, of Midkiff passed away Sunday, March 17, 2002, at Seminole Memorial Hospital.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2002, at Arden cemetery with the Rev. Jim Medley of the First Baptist Church of Rankin officiating. Arrangements are made by Robert Massie Funeral Home.
Viola was born Nov. 27, 1915, in Moulton, Lavaca County. She attended Komensky School and graduated high school in Shiner. After high school, she took nursing training in Fort Worth and later at Shannon Hospital in San Angelo where she met and married
Odis M. Holiman on July 3, 1937. They were blessed with two children, Viola Marie Early of Midland and H. Lewis Holiman. She stayed at home and cared for the children during World War II and later attended San Angelo Business College before moving to Midland with her husband. Viola worked for the City of Midland, Superior Oil Co. of California and Union Oil Co. of California before moving to the ranch. She and her husband acquired two ranches and enjoyed living on the ranch watching the quail and sheep. She loved to cook, garden and care for the yard. She was a wonderful wife, mother and one who loved God.
Viola was preceded in death by her son, H. Lewis Holiman.
Survivors are: Husband, Odis Holiman of Midkiff; daughter, Viola Marie Early of Midland; friend, Cindy Spence of Seminole; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Louise Chesnut
ODESSA - Louise Chesnut, age 87, died Friday, March 15, 2002, in Midland. She was born Oct. 13, 1914, in Stonewall, Okla.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 18, 2002, at First Baptist Church with Pastor Paul Jones of First Church of God officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Chesnut was a homemaker and a longtime member of First Church of God.
Her husband, Wayne C. Chesnut, preceded her in death July 12, 1977.
She is survived by a daughter, Wylene Brown and husband Jerry of Bartlesville, Okla.; sons, Gary Chesnut and wife Bernice of Pipe Creek and Troy Chesnut and wife Karen of Odessa; 20 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 p.m. today, March 17, 2002, at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
