Alice Elizabeth Thompson
ODESSA - Alice Elizabeth Thompson, 88, of Odessa passed away Thursday, March 14, 2002, at her residence. She was born March 16, 1913, in Smithville to A.T. and Sallie Stewart.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie L. Thompson in 1968 and Cliff Robinson in 1983; her son, Lonnie L. Thompson Jr. in 2000; her daughter, Sallie Dell Hughes in 2001; and a grandson, Lonnie L. Thompson III in 1982.
She worked with the DeMolay Mothers Club in her early years. She was employed with Dunlap’s for many years and enjoyed china painting. She was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Duncan and husband Tom of Odessa; son-in-law, Boyd Hughes of Odessa; seven grandchildren, Debbie Kinsel of Corsicana, Diana Jones of Sonora, Tom Duncan Jr. of Hobbs, N.M., Denise Reed of Colorado Springs, Colo., Renee Brister of Evergreen, Colo., Bryan Hughes of Odessa and Jeff Hughes of Odessa; 11 great-grandchildren, Justin Steadman of Sonora, Ryan King of Corsicana, Tanner Duncan, Carlie Duncan and Cole Duncan of Hobbs, N.M., Dustin Draughn and Linsey Draughn of Colorado Springs, Colo., Garrett Lee Brister of Evergreen, Colo., Jennifer Hughes of Odessa, Cody Hughes of Odessa and Brad Hughes of Las Vegas; a great-great-grandson, Hunter Bryan Hughes of Odessa; and a very special friend, Juanell “Sam” Deutsch.
Graveside services are scheduled for 10 a.m. today, March 16, 2002, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating.
Services are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Loy B. ‘Spud’ Minica
ODESSA - Loy B. “Spud” Minica, age 77, of Odessa died Friday, March 15, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born Dec. 6, 1924, in Mullin.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2002, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with the Rev. Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Loy served in the Navy on the USS Enterprise from 1943 to 1946. He married
Lucille Urbantke July 17, 1946. They moved to Odessa, and he worked for Electric Service and Construction for 25 years. He then opened his own company, Dynamo Electric, and operated it until his retirement in the early 1980s. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Loy loved football and watching his grandchildren in their sports and accomplishments and going to coffee with friends and VFW members. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille; and brothers, Albert Minica and Jack Phillips.
Mr. Minica is survived by a son, Milton Minica of Long Beach, Calif.; daughter, Deborah Payne and husband Gary of Odessa; grandsons, Gary Payne and wife Stacy of Arlington and Chad Payne and wife Tracy of Odessa; granddaughter, Melissa Payne of Killeen; great-grandchildren, Britni, Micailie, Hannah, Brayden and Brooke Payne; brother, R.Z. Minica and wife Jerry of Andrews; sister-in-law, Ruby Phillips of Odessa; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Pallbearers will be Chad Payne, Gary Payne, Mitchell Phillips, Dickie Payne, Gary Payne and Gayl Payne.

Louise Chesnut
ODESSA - Louise Chesnut, age 87, died Friday, March 15, 2002, in Midland. She was born Oct. 13, 1914, in Stonewall, Okla.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 18, 2002, at First Baptist Church with Pastor Paul Jones of First Church of God officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Chesnut was a homemaker and a longtime member of First Church of God.
Her husband, Wayne C. Chesnut, preceded her in death July 12, 1977.
She is survived by a daughter, Wylene Brown and husband Jerry of Bartlesville, Okla.; sons, Gary Chesnut and wife Bernice of Pipe Creek and Troy Chesnut and wife Karen of Odessa; 20 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2002, at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

Susana L. Aguirre
ODESSA - Susana L. Aguirre, 73, of Odessa died Saturday, March 16, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born May 24, 1928 in Candelaria, Texas to Susano and Librada Lopez. After her father’s death, she was raised by her mother and stepfather, Braulio Corrales.
Rosary was said yesterday and will be said again today at 7:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors and a funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Father Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Pallbearers will be Joseph and Jeremy Marquez, C.J., Lucas, Robert and Eric Aguirre.
She grew up in Marfa, where she met and on May 24 1948 married
Carlos S. Aguirre Jr. She was a homemaker and rancher’s wife. They moved to Odessa in 1959. They made Odessa and a ranch near Van Horn their home since then. Mrs. Aguirre was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Odessa and Our Lady of Fatima Church in Van Horn. She was also a member of La Guadalupana Society.
Mrs. Aguirre was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers Delfin and Pablo Lopez. She is survived by sons, Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Aguirre, Mr. and Mrs. Carlos Aguirre III, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Aguirre, and Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Aguirre, all of Odessa; and by daughters Mary Lou and husband, Louis Pasillas of Pecos, Mary Hilda Aguirre Santiago of El Paso, and Rosemary Aguirre Santiago of Odessa; 17 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
