To My Mother
Mother, a word most hold reverently in their heart
How can I describe you, where do I start?
You are gentle, you are kind
When I was little you made me mind
With a soft voice you would explain
How my feelings sometimes caused you pain
Although you may be disappointed in many things I say and do
Your love for me is like a shining light
Always burning steadfast and true
Many times your day off was spent
Helping me, as a day with Nanny my boys spent
How fortunate the people who have passed your way
For your love or friendship they never had to pay
You’ve asked so little and worked so hard
If I were rich I’d build you a dream home with a beautiful yard
If pretty pictures I could paint
My masterpiece would be a portrait of you
My Mother, a saint
