Miguel Lujan Luna
ODESSA - Miguel Lujan Luna, 77 years of age, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at Hospice House of Odessa.
He was born May 8, 1924, in Terlingua to Gilberto and Bonifacia Luna. Mr. Luna served in the U.S. Army and retired from the Ector County Independent School District. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Leandra Luna of Odessa; sons, Eusebio Luna of Odessa, Juan Manuel Luna of Odessa, Miguel Luna Jr. of Dallas, Jesse Luna of Grand Prairie, Rudy Luna of Dallas, Jose Mauriso Luna of Houston and Guadalupe Olivas of Odessa; daughters, Teresa Alvarado of Grand Prairie, Lorina Lara of Odessa, Margie Medina of Dallas, Josefa Alvarado of Odessa and Alice Norwood of Stockton, Calif.; brothers, Margrito Luna of Pecos and Denencio Luna of Alpine; sister, Felicitas Luna of Odessa; 48 grandchildren; and 65 great-grandchildren.
Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at 1503 S. Anderson Ave. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.
Services by Odessa Funeral Home.

Ricarda Cortez Soltero
KERMIT - Ricarda Cortez Soltero, 70, of Wink went home to be with our Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, in Edom, Texas. She was born April 3, 1931, to Emeterio and Lazara Cortez.
Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. today, Feb. 15, 2002, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kermit with the Most Rev. Alvaro Corrada de Rio, Father John Lucido and Father Robert Kobe officiating. Burial will follow at the Kermit cemetery. Arrangements by Cooper Funeral Chapel.
Mrs. Soltero was born in Terlingua. She was a lifelong resident of Wink before moving to Ben Wheeler in 1995.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emeterio and Lazara Cortez, and her grandson, Dario Soltero.
Survivors include her husband, Anacleto Soltero of Wink; children, Gloria Soltero of Wink, Frank and Helen Soltero, Sally and Leonard Aldridge and Teresa and Raul Trejo, all of Edom, Virginia and Hector Medrano of Ben Wheeler, Rito and Linda Soltero of Wink and Luis and Ana Soltero of Kermit; 20 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Survivors also include her brothers and sisters, Mike Cortez, Locadio Cortez, Jimmy Cortez, Juan Cortez, Evaristo Cortez, Maria Galvan, Polly Marquez, Angela Alvarado and Yolanda Hernandez, all of Odessa.
Pallbearers are the grandsons of Mrs. Soltero, Jeremy Soltero, Andy Soltero, Louie Soltero, Roby Walker, Angel Medrano, Jaime Martinez, Jody Soltero, Carlos Trejo and Hector A. Medrano.

Billie Frances Thurman
ODESSA - Billie Frances Thurman, 76, of Odessa went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. Mrs. Thurman was born Jan. 8, 1926, in Farmers Valley to James and Mattie Culpepper. She married Oliver Clyde Thurman on July 13, 1946. He preceded her in death March 2, 1982. Mrs. Thurman was an Odessa resident for over 40 years. She was a caring wife, loving mother, faithful friend and wonderful grandmother. She gave her heart to Jesus Christ at a very young age and lived the testimony of what a Christian should be. During her early adult life, she served the Lord at Royalty Heights Baptist Church, serving in various positions as W.M.U. director, Sunday school teacher and vacation Bible school. She also directed vacation Bible schools at King Solomon Baptist Church in Odessa. She was member of Vine Baptist Church.
Survivors include sons, Larry Oliver Thurman, the Rev. Michael James Thurman, Stephen Clyde Thurman and Gregory Wayne Thurman, all of Odessa; daughter, Julie Denise Friel of Odessa; 10 grandchildren; her caring extended family, George and Pat Gentry, Carldene Thurman, Rebekah Martin and Clara Boucher; and also a faithful pet companion, Tiffany.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, at Rose Hill cemetery with the Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Vine Baptist Church Music Fund.
Mama, we will miss you with all our hearts, but we will see you again in heaven some day.

Rita P. Aguilar
MIDLAND - Rita P. Aguilar passed away Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, at her residence in Midland.
Rita was born Oct. 13, 1928, in Maverick to Carlos and Luisa Pando. In 1947, she married Sabino R. Aguilar in Grandfalls. She was a member of Corazon de Jesus Society in Monahans in 1964. She lived her Cursillo in San Angelo in May 1963.
Her parents; her husband, Sabino; and her brother, Salvador Pando preceded her in death.
Rita is survived by her children, Felis Subia and her husband Armando of Midland, Rosa Aguilar of Wheat Ridge, Colo., Alicia Shimel of El Paso, Ruben Aguilar and his wife Manuela of Odessa, Sabino Aguilar Jr. and his wife Jessie of Monahans, Louisa Stewart and her husband Steve of Odessa and Gracie Quintela and her husband Mario of Thornton, Colo.; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and brother and sisters, Roberto Hernandez of Monahans, Maria Garcia of Monahans, Virgie Uranga of Denver, Colo., Frances Munoz of Monahans, Maggie Gonzales of Fort Stockton, Esperanza Rodriguez, Francis Valencia, Reyes Rey, Adelaida Moreno, Cruz Tarin, Carlos Pando Jr. and Domingo Pando. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
Rosary will be said for Rita at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Highway, Midland, 79701.
Pallbearers will be Armando Subia Jr., Marcos Aguilar, Benancio Aguilar, Adan Martin, Andy Vega and Sonny Aguilar. Honorary pallbearers are Jaime Subia, Daniel Subia, Estevan Subia, Anthony Aguilar, Joey Aguilar, Aaron Vega and Arik Vega.

Addie Garner Howry
ODESSA - Addie Garner Howry, 89, of Odessa, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002 at a local nursing home after a lengthy illness.
She was born March 18, 1912 in Reagan County, Texas.
Mrs. Howry moved to Odessa in 1940 from Crane. She was an active member of the Crescent Park Church of Christ and was president of the Licensed Vocational Nurses Association for 12 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Howry, in 1988.
She is survived by her son, Charles Howry of Odessa; daughters, Linda Tiner and husband, Bill, of Odessa, and Kay Howry of Chandler; three sisters, Eleanor Sims, Rosalind Robinson and Irma Luckie all of San Angelo; three grandchildren, William “Bill” Howry, Clay Howry, both of Austin, and Rhonda Lindley of Wylie; and five great-grandchildren, Avery Lindley, Cori Howry, Josh Howry, Amanda Howry and Summer Howry.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2002 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with Paul Smith officiating. Interment followed at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

John F. Ager
ODESSA - John F. Ager, 80, of Odessa, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002 at the Hospice House.
He was born March 28, 1921 in Oilton, Okla. He married Stella Jo Lee on Feb. 14, 1948 in Odessa.
He had served in the U.S. Coast Guard and had worked as a mechanic on pump jacks for Phillips Petroleum Co. for 36 years. All his work years were in Odessa except for two years as a roughneck in Maysville, Okla. He worked with Southside Church of Christ, helping build the auditorium.
He had attended West University Church of Christ and helped to build those buildings. He attended Parkview Church of Christ for several years and was now attending West University Church of Christ. He taught the boys and young couples class. John was a faithful Christian who loved singing and reading his Bible.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, J.W. Ager.
He is survived by his wife, Stella, of Odessa; son, Brian Keith Ager of Crownsville, Md.; two daughters, Marilyn Ager and Carla Jo Wheeler, both of Odessa; brother, Thomas Nedford Ager of Grove, Okla.; three grandchildren, Carrie Jo Owens, Bruce Neal Wheeler, and Wendy Sue Teveovich; eight great-grandchildren, Sloan, Skyler and Chase Alexander, and Amanda, Brian and Chelsea Owens, Ashley and Kaylee Wheeler.
Family will meet with friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, 2002 at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Roy Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Donations may be made to the Hospice House or Odessa Christian School in his name.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Charolette Dickerson
ODESSA - Charolette Dickerson, 52, loving wife, mother and grandmother, went to be with the Lord on Feb. 21, 2002. She was born Jan. 8, 1950 to Mr. and Mrs. Floyd C. Parker in Austin, Texas.
She married Billy Dickerson on June 22, 1967 in Gilabend, Ariz.
She was a member of Odessa Tabernacle Church. She worked for many years as an accountant for Village. She will be greatly missed by her family and all her friends.
She is survived by her husband, Billy Dickerson; one son, Keith Allen Dickerson of Odessa; daughter, Deanna Lindsey of Odessa; stepmother, Shirley Gene Parker of Cedar Creek, Texas; two brothers, Ronnie Parker and David Parker, both of Fort Mohave, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Ashley Elizabeth Dickerson, Amy Loren Dickerson, Arin Nicole Dickerson, Joshua Tyler Dickerson, Meagan Daniel Dickerson, Christian Joseph Lindsey, all of Odessa.
She is joining her son, Devin Joe Dickerson in Heaven.
Services will be Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002 at 2 p.m. at Odessa Tabernacle Church, with the Rev. Sam Jordan officiating.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

William James Mason
ODESSA - William James Mason, 80, of Odessa, passed away Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002 at Medical Center Hospital.
He was born Nov. 12, 1921 in Proctor, Colo.
He married Etta Louise Nester on Nov. 24, 1945 in Sterling, Colo. He was a retired truck driver and a lifetime member of the V.F.W.
He is survived by his wife, Etta Louise Mason of Odessa; three sons, Dennis Mason of Joshua, Texas, Daniel Mason of Commerce City, Colo., and Dale Mason of Odessa; four daughters, Lillian Padilla of Conroe, Texas, Carolyn Hunter, Rhonda Syslo, and Donna Cain, all of Odessa; three sisters, Dorothy Pierce of Pleasant Grove, Utah, Rosetta Culbertson of Denver and Mildred Waite of Sterling, Colo.; 25 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
