Oscar V. Hernandez
ODESSA - Oscar V. Hernandez, 79 years of age, passed away on Feb. 22, 2002 at Medical Center.
He was born on Feb. 18, 1923 in San Antonio, Texas to Arturo and Elisa Hernandez. He married
Felicitas Villanueva on April 15, 1950, served in the U.S. Army during World War II at Pearl Harbor where he was awarded a purple heart for bravery.
He loved watching his kids and grandchildren participating in sports. He adored his wife of 51 years and was looking forward to the upcoming wedding of his granddaughters. He will be greatly missed by his wife, children, brothers, sisters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and was a member of Holy Redeemer.
Mr. Hernandez was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Erasmo Hernandez, Hector Hernandez, sisters Ernestina Arevalos, Hortencia Balderas, grandsons, John Jacob Cisneros, Gabriel Navarro.
He is survived by his wife, Felicitas Hernandez, of Odessa; sons, Oscar A. Hernandez of Midland, Eddie A. Hernandez, Rodger P. Hernandez, Robert R. Hernandez all of Odessa; daughters, Elisa H. Carrillo, Margaret E. Cisneros, Lillian M Navarro, Cynthia A. Hernandez all of Odessa; brothers, Arturo Hernandez, Eloy Hernandez, Gilbert Hernandez all of San Antonio, Larry Hernandez of California; sisters, Purtia Gonzales, Mary Lou Vasquez both of San Antonio; 19 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, 2002 at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel.
Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with the Rev. Pablo Tiong officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery. Pallbearers will be Sid Cisneros, Jason Hernandez, Peter Carrillo, Steven Cisneros, Chris Cisneros, Robert Hernandez Jr., Mark Cisneros and Eric Hernandez.

Mary Belle Murrell
ODESSA - Mary Belle Murrell, 88, of Odessa, passed away Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, at the Hospice House.
She was born Feb. 2, 1914 in Tolar, Texas. She married
Belker B. “B.B.” Murrell on July 30, 1935 in Ranger. He preceded her in death Jan. 7, 1995.
Mrs. Murrell moved to Odessa in 1955 from Goldsmith. She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was a dedicated wife, mother and a loving grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her son, Rex A. Murrell and wife, Nancy of Newalla, Okla.; daughters, Jane Hext and Glenna B. Cheek and husband Bob, all of Odessa; brother, George T. Wilcox Jr., of Cisco; seven grandchildren, Debbie and Tim Hodges, Donna and Chuck Oaks, Belinda and Tim Spencer, Susan and Mark Palmer, Amy and Billy Goley, Sandy Murrell and Benjamin Murrell; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Public visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday with the family to receive friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, at Grace Christian Fellowship with the Rev. Bob Cheek officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Margaret Dowden Stepp
ODESSA - Margaret Dowden Stepp, 76, of Odessa, passed away Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital.
Margaret was born Oct. 22, 1925, in Natchitoches, La. to Edward Grant and Hazel Dowden. The family moved to Odessa in 1936.
She married
Jake Stepp in Odessa on Sept. 2, 1944.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Mark L. Stepp, and her brother, Steve Dowden.
She was employed by Texas and Pacific Railroad and later was a salesperson.
Margaret is survived by her husband, J.L. Stepp; daughter, Patricia Walker of Odessa; brothers Charles E. Dowden of Bunkie, La., James A. Dowden of Azle, Texas; sister Martha Sue Burdick of Houston; brother Roy Dowden of Lyndale, Texas; sister Elizabeth Ann Harned of Odessa; five grandchildren, Durondo Martin of Odessa, Raymond Stepp of Lake Dallas, Texas, Patricia L. Walker of Odessa, Virginia Dawn Walker of Odessa, and Amanda Susan Walker of Odessa. Also surviving are three great-grandchildren, Jake Merrill, Deaven Martin and Parker Stepp.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, 2002 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Vola Cox
SEMINOLE - Vola Cox, 92, of Lamesa, retired owner of the Tepee Motel in Seminole, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, at Sage Health Care Center in Lamesa.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Gaines County Memorial cemetery North with the Rev. Clifton Igo officiating. Arrangements by Boyer Funeral Home.
She was born in Decatur and had been a resident of Seminole. She was Methodist.

ODESSA - Tim Edward Fletcher, 57, of Odessa, a worker in the highline construction business, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at his residence.

He was born in Anderson County. He was an Army veteran.

ODESSA - Dale Irwin Long, 66, of Odessa, a retired employee of Walt Disney World, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital.

He was born in Baltimore, Md., and moved to Odessa in 1999. He was an Air Force veteran.

Francisco Lopez
IRAAN - Francisco M. Lopez, 77, of Iraan, a retired oilfield pumper, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with the Rev. Barry McLean officiating. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Shaffer-Nichols Iraan Chapel. Burial will be at Restland cemetery. Arrangements by Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.
He was born in Carrizo Springs and was a resident of Iraan for 46 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was Catholic.

Dorothy Myers
ODESSA - Dorothy Jean Myers, 81, of Tucson, Ariz., a retired worker in retail sales, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, in Tucson.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Cheryl Homsher officiating. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
She was born in Comanche and had been a resident of Odessa before moving to Tucson four years ago. She was Presbyterian.
SURVIVORS: Daughters, Barbara Jean “Barbie” Corbett of Tucson and Linda Couser Dallas; sister, Mary Jane Allen of Midland; a grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
Henry Shannon
ODESSA - Henry Clifford “Cliff” Shannon, 92, of Odessa, retired owner of G&S Oil Co., died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at his residence.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Belmont Baptist Church with the Rev. Gene Rotramell officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
He was born in Stephenville. He was Baptist.

James Walter Rowell
ODESSA - James Walter Rowell, 40, of Austin passed away Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, in Austin. He was born April 29, 1961, to Walter and Alice Rowell in El Paso.
He graduated from Permian High School in 1978 where he participated in the band. He attended Odessa College where he earned a degree in cosmetology. He had pursued a degree in medicine until he found he had an aversion to blood. He worked for Proteus in Odessa before moving away. He played the piano and organ. He had traveled and lived around the United States.
His mother, Alice, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his father, Walter Rowell of Odessa; companion, Kirk Cathey of Austin; and aunt and uncle, Anna and Irving Minchin of Rialto, Calif.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. today, Feb. 14, 2002, at Sunset Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Laura Deaderick officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
