Ellen Virginia Shugart Moore
RANKIN — Ellen Virginia Shugart Moore, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, died April 17, 2002. Ellen was born April 21, 1923, in Dickens County.
She was preceded in death by her father, Emory Shugart, and her mother, Dora Ann Maddox Shugart.
She leaves behind her husband, former County Judge Jacob Allen Moore of Rankin, whom she married
in October 1942 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They had lived in Rankin for 54 years. She also leaves behind her two sons, Robert Allen “Butch” Moore and wife Shelley Moore of Odessa and Jacob King “Skeet” Moore of Austin; her daughter, Barbara Ann Kessler and husband Mack R. Kessler of Midland; her grandchildren, Kenny Moore of Midland, Mindy Adcock and husband Sheldon Adcock of Odessa, Tracey Bowerman and husband Clint Eubanks of Marble Falls, A.J. Moore of Odessa, Aaron Moore of Lubbock, Megan and Brenna Moore of San Marcos; her great-grandchildren, Kendra Moore of San Angelo, Seth Allen Adcock of Odessa, Kayle Bowerman of Marble Falls and Amber Fuentes of Iraan.
Funeral arrangements have been made through Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home and Chapel, 1503 S. Gaston, in Crane.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 20, 2002, at First Baptist Church, 710 Upton, in Rankin, with Dr. Jim Medley officiating. Interment will be held at the Rankin cemetery.
Jimmie L. Stoglin
ODESSA — Jimmie L. Stoglin Sr., 75, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at the VA Medical Center Hospital in Big Spring.
He was born July 13, 1926, in La Grange to Judge Sr. and Sally Stoglin. He was married
to the late Ora Lee Stoglin. He retired as a truck driver from Mayflower Moving Co., was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of St. Matthew’s Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ora Lee Stoglin; parents, Judge Sr. and Sally Stoglin; five brothers, Judge Stoglin Jr., Willie Stoglin, Sylvester Stoglin, Neil Stoglin and W.C. Williams; and four sisters, Rosie Rolla, Bettie Mae Griffin, Tomie C. Jackson and Cora B. Griffin.
He is survived by three sons, Farell Lynn Payne of Denver, Colo., Jimmie Rogers Stoglin Jr. and wife Sally of Odessa and Tommy Earl Stoglin of Odessa; a daughter, Celesta Kay Pride and husband Dennis of Odessa; a brother, Sam Rogers of Belton; a sister, Annie Black of Taylor; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2002, at St. Matthew’s Baptist Church, 809 Barrett Drive, with the Rev. Anthony Slack officiating followed by burial at Rose Hill cemetery.

Jewel J. ‘Mamaw’ LaFortune
MIDLAND — Jewel J. LaFortune passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at Midland Memorial Hospital and Medical Center.
She was born Feb. 16, 1914, in Gause to James and Martha Williams. Jewel was raised near Cameron. On Feb. 18, 1933, she married
Fred Williams in Cameron. The couple moved to Midland from Bremond in 1951. In 1962, she married
Bud LaFortune, whom she later divorced. She worked at Sunset Country Club in Odessa as a waitress for many years. Jewel was affectionately known to many people as “Mamaw.”
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Williams, and two sons, Donny and Johnny.
Jewel is survived by her sons, Floyd E. Williams of Midland, Bobby L. Williams of Mancelona, Mich., Billy G. Williams of DeLeon, Gerald W. Williams of Baytown and Ernest C. Williams of Waterloo, Ala.; 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Blanche Williams of Alvord and Pearlie Cummings of Madill, Okla.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2002, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Edwards officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Bill Williams, Ray Williams, Bobby Lee Williams, Jeff Williams, Gordon Allbright and Brad Allbright.
Donald Lee Pitman
ODESSA — Donald Lee Pitman, 67, of Odessa passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2002, at the Hospice House. He was born Aug. 17, 1934, in Haskell. He moved to Odessa in 1957 from Haskell. He married
Gloria Wolf on Oct. 23, 1959, in Odessa.
He was a retired quality control specialist for the City of Odessa for 26 years. He was a member of Washington Avenue Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his father, Drafy D. Pitman, and brother, Dudley Edward Pitman.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria Pitman of Odessa; son, Wesley Pitman of Odessa; mother, Ava Lee Pitman of Odessa; brother, Doyle Pitman and wife Jo Anne of Odessa; sisters, Beatrice Livingston and husband Jack and Wanda Weaver and her husband T.M., all of Odessa; niece, Donna Gentry and husband Ron of Odessa; nephews, Gary Weaver and wife Brandy of Corpus Christi, David Pitman and wife Merijo of Longview, Dennis Pitman and wife Tami of Odessa, Eddie, Dewayne and Randy Pitman of Wyoming; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Misti, LaDona and Jason Gentry of Odessa, Justin Pitman of Odessa, Rachel and David Pitman Jr. of Longview, Nicole Weaver of Corpus Christi and several others of Wyoming.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2002, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with Lon Briley officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Bonnie Shannon Hutson
ODESSA — Bonnie Marie Hutson, 84, of Amarillo passed away Monday, April 29, 2002.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, May 3, 2002, at Immanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Cook and Mark Riley officiating.
Bonnie Hutson was born Aug. 26, 1917, in Paradise to Hugh Smith and Eunice Shannon. She graduated from Pampa High School in 1935 and received a degree from the School of Cosmetology. She married
A.K. Hutson in 1938 in Amarillo. They moved to Odessa in February 1943 where she was a resident until she moved back to Amarillo in January 2001 to be close to her daughter and first-born son.
Our mother had a strong faith in her Lord and Savior and was a faithful member at Immanuel Baptist. She was a loving and kind person with a beautiful outlook on life. She always took her children to church and was a strong influence in their upbringing. She had a soft voice, always forgiving and loving toward others. She was a gentle and caring mother that stayed home and was always there for her children. Being a good mother-in-law and grandmother was important to her. Her grandchildren adored and loved her greatly.
Mrs. Hutson was co-founder of Katty Industries Inc. of Odessa and other entities in Louisiana, Amarillo and Kermit. She was active in several charity and religious organizations. Her passion was traveling, and she visited many countries in the Western Hemisphere as well as Europe and the Middle East.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, A.K. Hutson; a grandson, Michael Jordan Hutson; and a granddaughter, Katty Marie Brown Graham. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Haywood Shannon, Raymond Shannon and W.B. Shannon, and four sisters, Jessie Grote, Mimi Jones, Ora Huebner and Aileen Shannon.
She leaves behind a daughter, Patty Pool and son-in-law John Pool of Amarillo; four sons, Wayne Hutson of Amarillo, Kenneth Hutson and wife Kathryn of Odessa, Mike Hutson of Odessa and G.R. Hutson and wife Carol of Odessa; a brother, Ralph Shannon and wife Charlotte of Oklahoma City; three sisters-in-law, Cletus Hutson of Odessa, Alene Hutson of Lake Jackson and Elsie Hutson of Nacogdoches; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. With special fondness, she leaves behind many nieces and nephews and lifelong friends, including Lorene Martz and Charlotte Glenn.

Loree C. Wood
ODESSA — Loree C. Wood, 85, of Odessa passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born Dec. 17, 1916, to Sidney and Mary Cason in Huckabee.
She married
Booth Wood on May 25, 1940, in Cleburne. She worked for Consolidated Aircraft during World War II and helped to build the B-24 and B-36 bombers. She moved to Odessa in 1973. She worked for Texas Instruments for a year. She enjoyed bingo, bowling, fishing, dominoes and playing the lottery. She loved basketball and baseball, the Mavericks and Texas Rangers and golf; Tiger Woods was one of her favorites. She enjoyed her flower gardens and liked to bake cookies, candy, pies and eating watermelon. She also liked to watch “The Price Is Right” and listening to gospel music. She loved to make new friends and she never met a stranger. She kept in touch with all her friends from previous residences. Most of all, she loved her children and grandchildren.
Her husband and parents; a son, Gary R. Wood; two brothers, Weldon and Delmer Cason; and two sisters, Ruthy Shaddox and Flaude Lidia preceded her in death.
She is survived by two sons, Thomas Wood of Fort Worth and Milton Wood and wife Brenda of Lake Palestine; a daughter, Marcia Slater and husband Kevin of Odessa; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Wood of Odessa; two brothers, Wayne Cason of Fort Worth and Gerald D. Cason of Sherman; a sister, Cleo Steele of Fresno; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 3 p.m. today, May 3, 2002, at Sunset Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Griffin Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Wanda Cooper
KERMIT — Wanda Cooper, 71, of Kermit passed away Sunday, April 28, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. She was born May 12, 1930, in Colorado City to James Marion Marlos Lipham and Velma Feaster Lipham.
Wanda married
D.L. “Lefty” Cooper on June 3, 1948, in Kermit. “Lefty” preceded her in death Jan. 29, 2001.
She and “Lefty” were founders and operators of Cooper Funeral Chapel Inc. from 1962 to 1997. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Kermit and was a resident of Kermit for 66 years.
Wanda was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Odom.
She is survived by her son, Jay Cooper of Kermit; a daughter, Doylene Plummer and her husband Jerry of Amarillo; and three brothers, James Lipham and his wife Mildred of Odessa, Ron Lipham and his wife Faye of Frisco and Bill Lipham and his wife Sharon of Odessa. She is also survived by grandchildren, Doyle Plummer and his wife Lorri of Denver, Colo., and Crystal Plummer of Amarillo, and great-grandchildren, Colton and Jordan Plummer of Denver, Colo., and Hope Plummer of Amarillo.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 2, 2002, at the First United Methodist Church in Kermit with the Revs. David Weyant and Beth Harrington officiating. Burial will follow at the Kermit cemetery.
Pallbearers will be David Odom, Daniel Odom, Ricky Odom, Randy Odom, Eddie Lipham and James Kvasnicka.

Roy Dennis Clingo
MIDLAND — Roy Dennis Clingo died Saturday, April 27, 2002, at a local hospital.
He was born April 28, 1929, in Newton, England, to Thomas Henry and Louisa Clingo. Roy was reared and educated in England. During World War II, he served in the Army. He was employed with GM in England.
On May 31, 1983, he married
Patricia McDonald in Bristol, England.
Roy was preceded in death by a son, Adrian Clingo.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Clingo of Midland; his stepdaughter, Sandi Veazey of Midland; his stepsons, Alan Lee of Midland and Brian and Stephen Lee, both of Hattiesburg, Miss.; four grandsons, Paul Lee of Iraan, Michael Liverett of Odessa, Richard Liverett of Laurel, Miss., and Chris Lee of Mexico; a granddaughter, Ambra Lee of Mississippi; sister, Dawn Gray of Crane; and two sisters and three brothers who reside in England.
Services have been scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, May 2, 2002, at the Ellis Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bob Barndt officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

Scott Edward Slankard
ODESSA — Scott Edward Slankard, 51, a glass glazer, passed away Friday, April 26, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born Aug. 8, 1950, in North Platte, Neb.
Memorial services were held Tuesday.
He was a man who was loved by all. He had few enemies and was loved by everyone in Odessa. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
He is survived by a brother, Michael Glenn Slankard of Boardman, Ore.; a sister, Sharon Hoosier of San Antonio; and a special friend, Dollie Boddie of Odessa.
Services are entrusted to Memorial Services, 404 N. Washington Ave., Odessa.
Dorothy Anne Aishman
IRAAN — Dorothy Anne Aishman, our beloved wife and mother, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2002, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Dorothy was born Aug. 2, 1926, to Thomas Boyd and Auda Williams Osborne in Caddo. She moved with her parents to Iraan in 1928 and lived much of her life there. She graduated from Iraan High School in 1943 and from Shannon Hospital School of Nursing in San Angelo in 1946. She was married
to Will Edward Aishman on March 7, 1947, in Iraan. Will and Dorothy celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary just a few weeks ago.
Dorothy was a registered nurse and served on the staff of Iraan General Hospital from the early 1960s to the mid-1970s. After moving to Snyder in 1976, Dorothy served on the staff of Cogdell Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1980.
Dorothy and Will moved to San Angelo in 1991 and resided happily at Rio Concho Manor.
Dorothy attended the First Christian Church and the First United Methodist Church in Iraan and the First United Methodist Church in San Angelo.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Will Aishman of San Angelo; by her sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy and Judy Aishman of Houston and Ed and Sheree Aishman of Iraan; by her son, Rick Aishman and special family friend Tom Phipps, both of Dallas; by her grandsons, Jon Aishman of San Angelo and Rance Aishman of Lubbock; by two sisters-in-law, Francys Noland of Hurst and Lucille Whitlock of Del Rio; by other members of her extended family; and by a host of friends in Iraan, Snyder and San Angelo.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today, April 30, 2002, at Johnson’s Funeral Home and a graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at Restland cemetery in Iraan.
Dorothy received loving care from the staff of Hospice of San Angelo during her final months and from the staff of Baptist Memorials Center Nursing Home during her final days. The family gratefully acknowledges all those who cared for Dorothy and encourages memorial contributions to either organization or to another favorite charity in lieu of floral remembrances.
