A.L. Pugh Jr.
ODESSA — A.L. Pugh Jr. was born Aug. 24, 1927, in Mexia. He died Thursday, April 18, 2002, in Dallas. He was the son of the late Pansy and Amel Leon Pugh.
A.L. lived a good and faith-filled life. He was raised in Wink where he graduated from Wink High School. He proudly served his country and is a veteran of World War II. A.L. attended and graduated from Rice University. He spent many years in Hobbs, N.M., and worked in the oil industry. He moved his family to Odessa in 1976 where he retired from Amoco after a long and fulfilling career. He attended Temple Baptist Church and was active with his Scripture Study Group.
A.L. was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Wilfred Pugh.
He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Randall and Ann Pugh of Keller, Ralph and Lily Pugh of Austin and Leon and Amy Pugh of Dallas; daughter and son-in-law, Lorna Reed and husband Al of Lubbock; brother, O.D. Pugh and wife Anne of Houston; sister, Edith of Paris, Texas; grandchildren, James Pugh, Nicholas Pugh, Christopher Pugh, Holly Reyes, Page Nichols, Nash Crawley, Alex Pugh, MaryClare Pugh and Shannon Pugh; step grandchildren, Gretchen and Corey Vincil; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services and visitation will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at Temple Baptist Church, 10th and Texas, in Odessa with the Rev. Jack Watkins officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at the Kermit cemetery. Services are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Chapel Inc. in Kermit.

Howard Leon Dudley
KERMIT — Howard Leon Dudley passed away on April 20, 2002, at Winkler County Memorial Hospital in Kermit, Texas. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He was born on a farm in White Flat, Texas, on Oct. 23, 1934, to Jesse and Claude Dudley.
His parents, one brother, Eugene Dudley and one sister, Louise Clemmer, preceded him in death.
Survivors include one brother, Pat Dudley of Wink, Texas; son, Phil Dudley and his wife, Bernice; daughter, Marla K. Dudley, all of San Antonio; daughter, Dana King and her husband, Clifton (C.W.), of Crane, Texas. Leon has four grandchildren — Jessica, Michael, and Joshua King of Crane, and Tristan Chapa of San Antonio.
Leon has been a long-time resident of Kermit. He was a successful, independent businessman whose knowledge of the oilfield will be missed greatly. He was the owner and operator of Dudley Production Co. and Dan Mar Well Service, Inc. and other small businesses. He was a large contributor to his political party and was very supportive of various local youth organizations. Leon enjoyed golfing with his buddies and visiting with family and friends. It was always a delight for him when either family or friends would drop by the office or the house for a visit. We will miss him!
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 22, 2002, at the First Baptist Church of Kermit with Brian McGonagill of the Church of Christ officiating. A graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. the same day at the Trent cemetery in Trent, Texas, with Billy Hamner officiating. Services are entrusted to Cooper Funeral Chapel, Inc.
Georgia Cloud
ODESSA — Georgia Cloud, 86, of Odessa died Saturday, May 4, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born April 14, 1916, in Hempstead, Texas, to Jeff and Nellie White Carter.
Services will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at Greater St. John Baptist Church with the Rev. E.J. Miller officiating. Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Martinez Funeral Home. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2002, at Petersburg cemetery in Kerens.
Survivors: Son, the Rev. W.E. Bradford of Dallas; two daughters, Laura K. Hunter of Dallas and Dorothy R. Hall of Odessa; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews of Fort Worth; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
Wanda V. Lawson
COLEMAN — Wanda V. Lawson, age 74, of Lake Coleman died Sunday, May 5, 2002, at Coleman County Medical Center.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. today, May 7, 2002, at the Coleman City cemetery Pavilion with the Rev. John Collins officiating. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Mrs. Lawson was born Oct. 8, 1927, in Newalla, Okla., a daughter of Arthur and Zolla Mae Haygood Rimer. She was raised and attended school in Oklahoma. She married
Hairl E. Lawson in 1952 in Arlington, N.M. She moved to Crane in the early 1950s. She also lived in Odessa for 30 years and Saudi Arabia for 13 years before moving to Lake Coleman in 1978. She was a housewife and a Baptist.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Audrey McAnalley; a brother, Cecil Rimer; and a granddaughter, Lendra Hodges.
Survivors include her husband, Hairl E. Lawson of Lake Coleman; three daughters, Linda Mahan of Weinert, Pamela Maples of Odessa and Vickie Hodges of Lake Coleman; five brothers, Glen Rimer of Odessa, Wayne Rimer of Chickasaw, Okla., Larry Rimer of Odessa, Donald Rimer of Odessa and Terry Rimer of Brenham; two sisters, Delores Hennech of Odessa and Janet Danner of Odessa; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Viola Porras
ODESSA — Viola Porras, 72, of Odessa passed away Saturday, May 4, 2002, at the Hospice House. She was born Aug. 16, 1929, in Alpine. She married
Bonifacio Porras in 1958 in Odessa. He preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
She is survived by her son, Fermin V. Ramirez of Odessa; daughters, Raley V. Gonzales and Norma Parades, both of Odessa; brothers, David, Ruben, Juan and Jesse Valenzuela, all of Odessa; sisters, Sylvia Jimenez of Odessa and Catalina Salas of Marathon; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. today, May 7, 2002, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill cemetery under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Jack H. Porter
SAN ANTONIO — Jack H. Porter of Fair Oaks Ranch went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 3, 2002.
He was born Feb. 24, 1909, in Troy. He married
Josephine E. Duren on July 27, 1930. They had one daughter, Jency B. Nichols (Mrs. Bill Nichols). Before moving to Fair Oaks Ranch 20 years ago, he lived in Crane for 21 years and was manager of Wm. Cameron Lumber Co. He moved to Midland in 1951 and managed the Cameron store there. After retiring from Cameron, he worked as a salesman for Southwest Portland Cement Co. in the West Texas area. After retirement from Southwest Portland, he moved to Fair Oaks Ranch and worked for Powerwall Inc. as a salesman.
Jack was a member of the First Baptist Church of Boerne. He was a wonderful Christian first, a loving husband second and the most wonderful father a daughter could have. He loved his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren and lived his life for Christ and his family. His many friends were always his special delight. He loved life and people and always shed a ray of sunshine wherever he went.
He is survived by his wife, Josephine; his daughter, Jency and her husband Bill; a brother, I.E. Porter and his wife Edith of Monahans; two grandchildren, Sam White and his family of Kerrville and Deborah White and her family of San Antonio; and four great-grandchildren, Samantha and Travis White of Kerrville, Cody Soele of San Antonio and Crystal Carpenter of Dallas.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2002, at Mission Burial Park North with the Rev. Bubba Stahl officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Boerne or to the American Cancer Society.

Claud Stuard
IRAAN — Claud Stuard, 86, of Iraan died Saturday, May 4, 2002, at Crane Memorial Hospital in Crane.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, May 7, 2002, at the Iraan Christian Church. Burial will follow at Restland cemetery. Services are under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home/Iraan Chapel.
Mr. Stuard was born Aug. 21, 1915, in Ranger. He served in the Army during World War II. He lived in Iraan since 1947. Mr. Stuard married
Marjorie Archer on March 11, 1949, at the Iraan Christian Church. He was a member and elder of the Iraan Christian Church. He retired from Chevron Oil Co. in 1980 after 34 years of service.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Eileen Stuard Weehunt.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Stuard of Iraan; two sons, Ron Stuard of Sheffield and Joe Stuard of Dierks, Ark.; a sister, Imogene Lain of Artesia, N.M.; and six grandchildren.
Sarah Martha Callaway
ODESSA — Sarah Martha Callaway, precious mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandma and sister, daughter of Fred and Ella Berry, both of whom went to be with the Lord before her, went to be with the Lord on May 20, 2002, after a long battle with cancer. During this time, her faith in God never faltered. She never ask “Why me Lord?” She took what she was handed, smiled and prayed daily for every member of her family.
Sarah was an inspiration to everyone that knew her. Her hospice caretakers were amazed at her attitude. They never saw her without a smile or a friendly word, even on her worse days.
Sarah was born May 24, 1914, in Cement, Okla., and moved to Odessa in 1935. She married
Howard Callaway in 1950 and moved to Monahans. From there, they moved to San Angelo where they lived for the next 35 years. She returned to Odessa in 1995, when Howard got sick and she needed help to care for him. She laid him to rest April 17, 1996.
Sarah leaves behind two daughters, Carol Scott of Harlem, Ga., and Betty Smith and husband Bill of Odessa. Carol and Betty gave Sarah six grandchildren, John Scott, Martha Isner, Tony Pavlas, Ronda Holminski, Sarah Allison and Holley Meeks; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Ray Berry and wife Hazel of Navasota and Tex Berry and wife Evelyn of Odessa and three sisters, Vashti Willis, Marjorie Stubblefield and Corine Berry, all of Odessa.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, a sister and a stepdaughter.
Our deepest thanks and gratitude to her Home Hospice caretakers Holley Baron, RN; Darla Walden, RN; Caren Anderson, CNA; and T.J. Palmer, CNA. I don’t know how our family would have made it through the last year without these ladies and this hospice program.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 25, 2002, at the First Assembly of God Church, 1101 N. Lee Ave., with the Rev. Paul Thompson officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill cemetery under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

David Wayne Morris
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — David Wayne Morris, 43, continued his life journey into eternity with the Lord on May 13, 2002. David gave a valiant fight against cancer.
He was a songwriter, musician, author and nationally known praise and worship leader, graduating from Christ for the Nations in Dallas. He taught and ministered on four continents in addition to writing “Lifestyle of Worship” and “Called to Radical Devotion.” David was also featured on Hosanna Integrity’s “His Word” as well as several other recording projects including “Pursuing His Presence” released in 2001 with his wife, Laurie, as flautist.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Laurie; four children, Brooke, Heather, Collin and Brynne; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Morris of Fresno, Calif.; five brothers and sisters; his mom- and dad-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Wadley; several adoring brothers- and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
C.R. 'Pete' Bass
ODESSA — C.R. “Pete” Bass, age 92, of Odessa died Monday, May 20, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born March 10, 1910, in Cloudcroft, N.M.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2002, at St. Barnabas’ Episcopal Church with the Rev. Judy Cobb officiating.
Mr. Bass married
Helen Wilford on Oct. 5, 1952, at First Methodist Church of El Paso. He had worked for National Supply in 1937 and then Engine Service Supply. He started his own used oilfield equipment supply company. He was a member of The Masonic Lodge and St. Barnabas’ Episcopal Church. He loved fishing and RVing.
Five brothers and both parents preceded Mr. Bass in death.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Frances Bass of Odessa; daughter, Judy Kay Nichols and husband Jim of Oklahoma City; niece, Susan Crutchfield of Lovington, N.M.; granddaughter, Christina Nichols of Oklahoma City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services have been entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Billy Jack Shrum
ODESSA — Billy Jack Shrum, 72, went home to be with his Savior on Friday, May 17, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born May 27, 1929, to John Edgar and Molly Louise Shrum in Snyder, TX.
Billy was self-employed as a mechanic for 50 years, retiring in 1996. In 1997, he moved to Odessa from Waco. He was loved by all and was known as “Billy Jack” or “Pops.”
There is a family visitation scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., today, May 20, 2002, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at Sunset Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Dewey Bevins of Zion Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Billy’s mother and father, wife, Sarah Hall, and beloved son, Billy E. Shrum, all preceded him in death.
He is survived by his son, John Shrum of Odessa; daughter, Dollie Riggs Boddie of Odessa; brother, John Shrum of San Bernardino, CA; three sisters, Ida B. Throneberry, Mary Dempsey, and Byrdie Nesbit, all of Waco; three grandchildren, Angela Jones, Shawn and Brian Shrum; five great-grandchildren, Amanda and Briana Lawhone, Cassandra and Sarah Shrum, and Dawson Hogan; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made in Billy’s memory to the Little People of America.
