Betty Joe Craft
MONAHANS Betty Joe Craft, 76 years of age, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at her Monahans residence. She was born Sept. 30, 1925, in Westbrook and was resident of Monahans for the past 30 years. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church of Monahans and a homemaker. She married
John L. Craft on Jan. 3, 1952, in Loving, N.M.
Betty Joe is survived by her husband of Monahans; son, Hank Craft and his wife Donnette of Muskogee, Okla.; daughters, Vickie A. Bucy and her husband Randy of Odessa and Jonelle Wiley and her husband Bryan of Farmerville, La.; sister, Nell Waldrop and her husband David of Odessa; brother, T.J. Oliver Jr. and his wife Thelma of Stockdale; 10 grandchildren, Randy, Rhonda, Vicki Lynn, Lee, Jamie, Jill, Candi, Brandi, Jeremy and Jason; 25 great-grandchildren; and very dear friend, Pat Kelsey.
A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday, March 15, 2002, at Emmanuel Baptist Church of Monahans. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Craig Routen officiating. Burial will follow at the Monahans cemetery.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Jimmy Leon Ivins Sr.
ODESSA Services for Jimmy Leon Ivins Sr. will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 15, 2002, at Parkview Church of Christ with Charles Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Jimmy went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 11, 2002, following a lengthy illness. Born June 8, 1935, in Vivian, La., Jimmy spent most of his adult life in Odessa, where he graduated from Odessa High School in 1953. Jimmy was employed for many years with Marks Crane and Rigging, where he worked at the time of a 1979 accident that left him paralyzed. Following the accident, Jimmy became an advocate for those with handicapping conditions in Odessa, lobbying city and county officials to make public buildings more accessible to the handicapped. He also served his Lord by caring for shut-in church members over the phone.
Jimmy is survived by his wife of 46 years, Patsy; his three sons, Jimmy Ivins Jr. of Odessa, John Ivins and his wife Tyra of Midland and Bill Ivins of Aztec, N.M.; his grandchildren, Laura Ivins, Taira McKenzie and Sean Ivins; a great-grandchild, Alec McKenzie, all of Moore, Okla.; as well as his mother, Mildred Lincoln of Odessa.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be sent to Odessa Christian School, 2000 Doran, Odessa, Texas, 79761.

Choicie Steward
ODESSA Choicie Steward of Odessa passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at her residence. She was born in Hearne. She moved to Odessa in the 1940s. She was a retired cook and an active member of Rose of Sharon Baptist Church.
She is survived by four daughters, Alyce Joyce Gilbert of Houston, Willie Ruth Smith, Carolyn Jean Martinez and Janice LaVonne White, all of Odessa; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 16, 2002, at Rose of Sharon Baptist Church with the Rev. J.W. Hanson officiating. Interment will follow at Odessa cemetery under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Marian H. Mathews
ODESSA Marian H. Mathews, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2002.
She was born March 18, 1928, in Broken Bow, Okla., to Robert and Willa Montgomery. She graduated valedictorian from Broken Bow Junior High where she was and avid reader and played the trumpet and French horn in the band. Her family moved to San Antonio where she graduated from Breckenridge High School.
She attended the University of Texas at Austin where she met her husband, Forest H. Mathews. They married
May 29, 1949, in Odessa and had been married
for 52 years. While in Austin, she worked full-time for Southwestern Bell as a switchboard operator. In 1950, they moved to Odessa where she was a substitute teacher for the Odessa school system for five years.
A Christian since 9 years of age, she was a member of First Baptist Church where she taught preschoolers for many years and rang in the handbell choir. Her hobbies included sewing, reading and playing duplicate bridge, for which she had been awarded Life Master in 1996.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Robbie Longmire.
She is survived by her husband, Forest; daughters, Julia Sorbers and husband Jack of Houston and Celia Ray and husband Mark of Temple; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2002, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. A private interment will follow at Ector County cemetery.

Velma Pearl Hanks
ODESSA Velma Pearl Hanks, 75, of Odessa passed away Thursday, May 2, 2002, in Odessa. She was born Dec. 19, 1926, in Smackover, Ark. to W.A. and Chiniese Rowell.
Velma married
Joseph Simons in February of 1947. He preceded her in death in 1950. She moved to Odessa in 1953 from Goldsmith. She married
Cecil Hanks on May 20, 1953 in Odessa.
She enjoyed arts and crafts. She was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.
Her parents and three sisters, Mary Rowell, Bea Neeley, and Louise Merritt preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband, Cecil O. Hanks of Odessa; son Cecil A. Tony Hanks & wife Brenda of Odessa; son, Michael Hanks & wife Sandi of Sweeney, Texas; son, Gerald Bubba Simons of Blackwell, Texas; daughter, Lynda Hanks-Eaton & husband, Mike of Monahans; daughter, Margie Simons-Kennedy & husband Terry of Odessa; 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, May 6, 2002, at Sunset Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Mike Hanks officiating, assisted by the Rev. Frank Chavez. Burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Robert L. Grubb
ODESSA Robert L. Grubb, 86, of Odessa passed away Thursday, May 2, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born Jan. 2, 1916. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II.
He was retired owner of Odessa Frozen Food for many years. He was a dedicated Mason and a member of the Midland Masonic Lodge No. 623 A.F. and A.M., Keystone Chapter No. 172, Keystone Council No. 112, Midland Commander No. 84 and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason. He has received the Golden Trowel Award and held an A teaching certificate.
He was preceded in death by wives Paula Grubb in 1978 and Dorothy Grubb in 1987.
He is survived by his son, Bobby Grubb of Kilgore, stepson, Dan McGraw of Saint Jo, Texas; sister, Eva Costen of Kerrville, five step grandchildren, and half sister Louise Campbell of Houston.
Viewing will be at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon and Monday morning.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2002, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel. Masonic graveside will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

James Edward Owens
ODESSA James Edward Owens, 70, of Odessa, a retired construction contractor, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital.
He was born July 23, 1931, in Barstow. He was a simple man who lived his life in a simple way. He loved his family and many dear friends. His hobbies included fishing, working outdoors and participating in garage sales.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret; sister, Alma Gipson of Tulare, Calif.; sons, Wayne B. Owens and Tracy Brown of Odessa; daughters, Valerie Lowe of Allen, Pamela Whitmore of Odessa, Jeanette Cortney, Shelly Smith and Lee Rae Clark, all of Fresno, Calif., and Jacque Eaton of Chino Valley, Ariz.; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
His family would like to express their appreciation and thanks to all of his many friends and loved ones. At his request, there will be no memorial service. He wished for everyone to remember him as he was, a simple man who was full of life. There will never be another husband, father, grandfather or friend quite like him, and he will be in our hearts forever.

Ruth Shrader
MIDLAND Ruth Shrader passed away Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at a Midland hospital.
Ruth was born in Ralls to Junius and Lillian Payne. In 1946, she married
Leon Shrader in Levelland. Since the mid-1950s, they were residents of Midland. She was a member of First Baptist Church, secretary of the Faith Sunday school class and a member of the Downtown Lioness Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, J.W. and Howard Payne.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Leon; son, Newton and his wife Kay; nieces, Peggy Aycock, Rita Bodensteiner and Margaret Ann Norbury; nephews, Aubrey Buddy Payne and Kenneth Payne; aunt, Glenn Lloyd Howard; and cousins, Pat Jacobs, Jean McNeely, Paul L. Payne, Stephen Payne, Corinne Wright and Carolyn Fulghum.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Gary Dyer and the Rev. Bob Hopkins officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Highway, Midland, Texas, 79701.
Pallbearers will be Dale Beikirch, Allen Brummert, Gene Hogan, Jim Hoisager, Jeb Hughes and Chessley McKenzie.
Alexandra Levario
ODESSA Alexandra Beatrice Levario passed away Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002. She was born June 13, 1994, in Odessa to Benjamin and Debra Levario.
She has a brother, Benjamin Levario Jr. of Odessa, and a sister, Angelica Levario of Odessa. She is also survived by her grandparents, Frank and Corina Chavez of Odessa; grandfather, Ismael Martinez of Odessa; grandmother, Maria Garcia of Odessa; uncles, Ismael and Lisa Martinez, Christopher and Andrea, Pete and Linda Flores and Longino Flores, all of Odessa; aunts, Corina Mae Martinez of Bayside, N.Y., Anna Martinez, Lupe Flores and Belinda Flores, all of Odessa; and numerous great-aunts, great-uncles and cousins.
Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today, Feb. 22, 2002, at Odessa Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with the Rev. Pablo Tiong officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Delia Martinez, Manuel Martinez, Ruben Lerma, Amanda Madrid, Albert Maldonado and Miguel Maynez.
