Larry W. Edwards
ODESSA — Larry W. Edwards, 57, of Odessa passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at his residence. He was born May 9, 1944, in Frederick, Okla. He moved to Odessa in 1964 from Artesia, N.M. He married
Eugenia Lines on April 19, 1996, in Las Vegas, Nev.
Larry was a 1962 graduate of Artesia High School. He was an avid bowler and golfer. He was a member of the Ector County deputy sheriff’s reserves and beloved “CowPa” to all the grandchildren. He was a Baptist.
He is survived by his wife, Eugenia Edwards of Odessa; son, Larry D. Edwards of Odessa; daughter, Lonna S. Edwards Poole and husband Johnny of Monahans; parents, Lonnie and Bessie Edwards of Cushing, Okla.; brothers, Glenn D. Edwards of El Paso, Jerry Edwards of Tulsa, Okla., and Randy Edwards of Cushing, Okla.; sister, Sandra Johnson of Weatherford, Okla.; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, May 11, 2002, at Hubbard-Kelly Chapel with the Rev. Carl Anderson officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Joyce Estes
ODESSA — Joyce Estes, 70, of Odessa passed away Sunday, May 12, 2002, at the Hospice House. She fought a courageous battle with cancer for several months. She was a retired employee of the Crane Independent School District. She was born to Herman and Gladys Pearce in Mountain View, Okla., and her childhood was divided between San Pedro, Calif., and Monahans.
She married
Bill Estes on Dec. 26, 1953, in Monahans. After two years in Odessa, they spent the next 46 years in Crane. She worked as an employee for the Crane Medical Clinic for two years and 21 years as a teacher’s aide and a secretary to the athletic department at Crane ISD. Her life was devoted to her husband and daughters and their families. Joyce was a caregiver, and she touched many lives with her unselfish love and compassionate heart.
Joyce and Bill moved to Odessa in April 2001. She became an active member of the Sixth and Jackson Church of Christ, and one of her greatest joys was attending the weekly Ladies’ Bible class. Her most treasured moments were those spent with friends and family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchild lovingly called her “Mambo.”
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Bill Estes of Odessa; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jodi and Ted Hogan of Odessa and Carla and Pat Nault of Kilgore; four grandchildren, Holli Hogan Campbell and her husband Brad of Anchorage, Alaska, Jeff Hogan, Chad Nault and Todd Nault; and a great-grandson, Rylan Campbell.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Bobbie Evans of Crane.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sixth and Jackson Church of Christ immediately followed by a reception for friends and family. Graveside services will be held at 7 p.m. that evening at the Crane cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Ladies’ Bible Class at Sixth and Jackson Church of Christ or Home Hospice of Odessa.

Nelda K. Coleman
MIDLAND — Nelda K. Coleman died peacefully Sunday, May 12, 2002, at her Midland residence.
Nelda Coleman was born Sept. 9, 1906, to W.B. and Eleanor Mohrbacher Mullins in Indian Territory, which later became the state of Oklahoma. She was raised in Prague, Okla. She married
“Bill” Coleman on Sept. 24, 1928. Mrs. Coleman had lived in Midland the last 55 years.
Nelda was preceded in death by her husband.
She is survived by her niece, Patricia A.H. Bush of San Antonio; two great-nieces, Suzanne Bush Pack and her husband Randy and their daughters Emily Ann and Katie of Odessa and Ann Bush of Dallas; and a great-nephew, Charles Coleman Bush and his wife Susan Duncan Bush and their daughters Meghan and Ashley of Fort Leavenworth, Kan.
Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. today, May 14, 2002, at I.O.O.F. cemetery in Norman Okla. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at First Presbyterian Church in Midland with the Rev. Steve Wilkins officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
Honorary pallbearers will be James Windham, Wesley House, Jim Ross and Scott Davis.

Helen J. Warren
ODESSA — Helen J. Warren, 93 years of age, went to be with the Lord on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 12, 2002. She was born Sept. 22, 1908, near Bevier and Macon Co., Mo. She graduated from Business College and attended one year at the University of Missouri where she met Forrest B. Warren while attending the university. They were married
Aug. 16, 1929, in Sapula, Okla. Mrs. Warren worked as a secretary for a short time. They moved to Enid, Okla., in December 1929. She then became a homemaker, raising her three children while her husband worked as editor of the Enid Daily Eagle newspaper for some 20 years.
She served as leader in the mission organization of the First Baptist church in Enid as well as leader with the campfire girls and cub scout organizations in which the children were members. She was very active in all phases of the church in Oklahoma. In 1957, they moved to Bartlesville, Okla., where her husband served as the minister of education at the First Baptist Church, and she served as secretary and part-time financial secretary. Upon Mr. Warren’s retirement, they served on the staff at Glorieta Baptist Conference Center for three years during the summer months helping manage buildings and working with personnel. She enjoyed working in the children’s departments in Sunday school following their retirement. Mr. Warren preceded her in death in October 1981. She then moved to Odessa in December 1985 and became a member of the First Baptist Church. She was very active in the Bible study organization, ladies Bible study groups, WMU and KIT. She served as a visitor in the homebound ministry of the church, new member visitation and was president of her Sunday school class for many years.
Her husband, her parents, and her five brothers preceded Mrs. Warren in death.
She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Sue Cywinski and her husband Norbert of Round Rock; twin sons, Marvin D. Warren and his wife Marguerite of Greenville, S.C., and Melvin L. Warren and his wife Jane of Odessa; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. today, May 14, 2002, at First Baptist Church with Dr. H. Bailey Stone and the Rev. Paul R. Warren, grandson, officiating. Interment will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Memorial Park cemetery in Enid, Okla.
If desired, contributions can be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund or Library or to Home Hospice.

Ceferino A. Garcia Sr.
ODESSA — Ceferino A. Garcia Sr., 74, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2002, at his home. He was surrounded by his family.
Ceferino was born Aug. 26, 1927, in Terlingua to the late Luis and Felipa Garcia. He was a Korean War veteran serving in the U.S. Army’s 3rd Infantry Division. He married
Eva Salgado on July 16, 1955, in Marfa. Ceferino retired from El Paso Products in September 1989.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Melinda Garcia Ortiz.
Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Martinez Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Military services will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Eva; sons, Charlie Garcia and wife Linda, Ceferino “Billy” Garcia Jr. and Joe Garcia, all of Odessa; daughters, Mary Ann Rodriguez and husband Ruben and Nelda McGuire and husband David, also of Odessa; brothers, Felix Garcia and Isabel Garcia, both of Artesia, N.M.; and sisters, Feliciana Huerta, Isabel Trevino and Margie Rodriguez, all of Artesia, and Flora Garcia of Pittsburg, Calif. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Myra Uvalle and husband Santos IV, J.R., Marcus and Steven Rodriguez, Pedro Ortiz Jr. and wife Becky, Joe Michael and Sonya Ortiz, Toni De La Torre and husband Jaime, Laura Garcia, Roxanne and Brianne McGuire, all of Odessa, and Cpl. Matthew Garcia of Albany, Ga., and great-grandchildren, Santos V “Bubba” and Caitlin Uvalle and Alex De La Torre.

Edward Sidney Hale
ODESSA — Edward Sidney Hale, 69, of Odessa died Friday, May 10, 2002, at Seabury Nursing Center.
He was born Nov. 9, 1933 in Webber Falls, Okla. to Grace Buchanan Hale and Leonard P. Hale Sr.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Hale graduated from Odessa High School and Sul Ross State University. He died after an extended illness.
Survivors include sisters, Billye Hale Jackson of Joplin, Mo. and Emma Hale Burnett of Midland and San Miguel de Allende, Mexico; nephews, Fred Hale, Jerome Hale, Abner Burnett and Paul Burnett; and nieces, Deborah Hale, Jan Shuler, Teri Peulen, Dakota Kelly Smith and Melissa Hale Burnett.
Pearl B. Mills
CRANE — Pearl B. Mills, 83, of Crane, died Sunday, May 12, 2002, at the Crane Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today at the First United Methodist Church in Crane with the Rev. Craig Mull officiating. Burial will follow in the Crane County cemetery. Services are under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.
Mrs. Mills was born Sept. 3, 1918 to Reecie and T.L. Booth in Cross Plains. Pearl married
Hubert Mills in June of 1938, in Midland. She was resident of Crane for over 56 years and was owner of the Crane County Abstract Co. until her retirement in 1999. Pearl was former First Lady of Crane and a 50-year member of the First United Methodist Church in Crane, having served on numerous committees and boards of the church.
Over 47 years ago Mrs. Mills began her life of service to the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls as the Mother Advisor of the Crane Assembly, then in various positions at the State level and finally as a Supreme Officer at the International level in excess of 20 years. Mrs. Mills retired as Supreme Inspector of Texas in 1998, however, continued as a member of the House of Gold of the organization until her death. Mrs. Mills touched the lives of thousands of young girls through this organization all over the United States. One of her most treasured honors was having a Star named after her and having the Star registered in the International Star registry.
In addition to her dedication to the International Order of Rainbow for Girls, Mrs. Mills has been a member of the order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years serving her local Chapter as Worthy Matron several times as well as many capacities as a State Officer.
Pearl is survived by her husband, Hubert Mills of Crane. Pearl and Hubert have one daughter, Glena Preslar and son-in-law, Jim, of Crane; grandson, James Preslar of Midland; granddaughter, Kim Lawson and her husband, Jimmy, of Port Isabel; a brother; and a sister.
Pearl leaves behind in addition to her family many friends in Crane as well as all over the United States through her various memberships in church and fraternal organizations.
Robert A. 'Bob' Thornhill
ODESSA — R.A. “Bob” Thornhill, 77, passed away Sunday, May 12, 2002, at Hospice House in Odessa.
He was born August 29, 1924, to Archie and Bessie Thornhill, in Globe, Arizona.
He served in the US Army as a Sergeant in France and Germany during WWII. He grew up in El Paso and graduated from Texas Western in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He was a retired Right-of-way Agent with Texas Electric Service Company and was a charter member of St. Luke‘s United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Tri-Service Lions Club, a Mason, and a member of the Scottish Rite and Shrines.
Graveside services are scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Rev. Rhonda Thornhill officiating.
Survivors include his wife, May Thornhill of Odessa; sons, Larry Thornhill and wife Rhonda of Odessa, Bobby Thornhill and wife Karen of Odessa; and Ronny Thornhill and wife Stacy of New Home, TX; sister, Phyllis Taylor and husband Jack of Albuquerque, N.M.; 10 grandchildren, Kalyn Johnson, Katie, Lindsay, Randi, Robert, Holt, Travis, Preston, Chantry, and T.J. Thornhill; and one nephew, Jack I. Taylor.
The family would like to thank Susan Langley and Darla Walden, Home Hospice nurses, and the entire staff at the Hospice House for their care, concern, and love shown through Dad‘s illness.
The family would also like to request memorials to Hospice House and the Shriners Crippled Children‘s Hospital.

Eddie 'Skip' Alex Turner
ODESSA — Eddie “Skip” Alex Turner, 60, born Nov. 12, 1941, went home to his eternal rest Saturday, May 11, 2002. Ed served in the U.S. Navy and went on to become a CRNA after leaving the service. He touched countless lives of both his patients and their families. He was an active, faithful member of Crescent Park Church of Christ.
Ed was always quick to offer his abundant wisdom to friends and family alike and his steadfast faith in the Lord was a shining light to all. His quick-witted sense of humor was always sure to bring a smile to anyone’s face. He was a faithful, loving and caring husband, friend, colleague, mentor, grandfather and daddy to so many of us. God blessed us with him and every life he ever touched. We will miss him dearly, but he will always be in our hearts.
Ed is survived by his wife, Phyllis Turner; six children, Tommy Riley of Robert Lee, Teresa Hall of Odessa, Terry Turner of Midland, Alexia Sears of Midland, Stacey Turner of San Angelo and Eddie Turner Jr. of Lovington, N.M.; 11 grandchildren; and three brothers, Bob Riley of Odessa and Bill and Chuck Riley of California.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. today, May 14, 2002, at Sunset Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Elisha Snodgrass
ODESSA — Our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Elisha Snodgrass, went to be forever with the Lord on April 6, 2002, at Hospice House in Odessa. He was also blessed with the loving care of Dr. B.J. Naidu, the nursing staff of Star Care Nursing, friends and family through a long illness.
He was born Aug. 2, 1919, in Coleman County. His family moved to Midland in 1928 and to Odessa in 1936. They were farmers. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force Air Transport Command from May 1942 until June 1945. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4372, a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and a member of the American Legion. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church.
Elisha was an oilfield salesman for Brookman Oil Co., salesman and assistant manager for Petroleum Distributing Co. and owner of Ector Feed Co. during the late 1940s, ’50s and early ’60s. He retired as supervisor for the City of Odessa Sanitation Department in 1983 after more than 19 years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Wanda; son, David Spenser; daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Roy Wingate; three grandsons, Jason, Todd and Travis Spenser, all of Odessa; two granddaughters, Allison Knight and her husband Danny of Wylie and Lisa Ingram of Denton; two sisters, Peggy Lutrull of Brownwood and Grace Huff of Odessa; and two nephews and their wives, Jim and Nancy Furry of Brownwood and Lynn and Jane Huff of Odessa and their families. His parents, Dave N. and Josie V. Snodgrass, preceded him in death. He also had a host of other relatives and friends, many of whom have gone on before him.
A memorial service is scheduled for 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2002, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home with Brother Clydell Chapman, pastor of Northside Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be three of his grandsons, Jason Spenser, Travis Spenser, Danny Knight, Terry Lange, Marcus Deporto and Bobby Spruill. W.L. “Bud” Harrison will be the honorary pallbearer.
