Alice Marie Cooper
ODESSA — Alice Marie Cooper was born Sept. 21, 1926, in Nowata, Okla., to John Russell and Hattie Cobb. She went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 7, 2002.
She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers.
She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Vernon Cooper. She is also survived by her three daughters and their families, Sherry Rose and husband Bill of Navasota and their children, Rodney Gillham and wife Brenda, Blake and Brett Rose, Jan Reynolds and husband Gerald of Odessa and their children, Shannon Windham and husband Shawn and Spencer Reynolds, Vicki Stewart and husband Gary of Georgetown and their children, McKensey and Kelsey Stewart, and three great-grandchildren, Taylor Gillham of Houston and Kinley and Kamille Windham of Odessa.
Alice was a devoted Christian and member of Temple Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was always proud of her family, she always had a shoulder to cry on and she offered Christian advice for every situation that arose. She was a guardian angel only a phone call away and now just a prayer away.
The family would like to give their sincerest thanks to her numerous physicians and all the staff at the Odessa Hospice House for the loving care she received. Alice will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Visitation services will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today, July 9, 2002, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Funeral services celebrating Alice’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 11, 2002, in Lenapah, Okla.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice House of Odessa.

Carl H. Goetz Jr.
ODESSA — Carl H. Goetz Jr., age 63, of Odessa died Saturday, July 6, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. Mr. Goetz was born June 23, 1939, in Breckenridge to Carl H. Sr. and Lochie Mae Goetz. Carl was a supportive and devoted husband to his wife, Evelyn, and loved his children and grandchildren. Carl took pride in his job with great integrity. He worked for Broncho Chevrolet, where he was truck manager for 31 years. He believed in doing the best job with prestige and a handshake. He was a quiet man who loved golf, restoring antique cars, especially his ’32 Ford Roadster and ’55 Chevy that were his pride and joys, and WTSRA Car Club. Carl treasured his family, friends and co-workers.
Mr. Goetz is survived by his wife, Evelyn Goetz of Odessa; two sons, Robbie Goetz of Ballinger and Phillip Roberts of Odessa; a daughter, Rhonda Baldwin and husband Jeff of Plano; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Katie, Corey, Diego and Nando; a brother-in-law, John Farmer and his wife Beverly of Crane; a niece, Amy Ramirez of Midland; and a nephew, Scott Farmer of Crane.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today, July 9, 2002, at Second Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

George Ray Simpkins
ODESSA — George Ray Simpkins, 70, of Odessa passed away Sunday, July 7, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital from complications from lung cancer. He was born Jan. 11, 1932, in Burnett to Edward and Alice Simpkins.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at Sunset Chapel. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. A family visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
George came to Odessa in 1951 from Burnett. He married
Thelma Baer Sept. 17, 1951, in Texarkana, Ark. He worked for Jones Brother Dirt and Paving for 30 years before retiring in 1997. He loved to fish, play dominoes, watch and build go-carts and watch his grandchildren play baseball. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and working in his garden.
His mother and father and a brother, Grover Lee Simpkins, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma Simpkins of Odessa; daughters, Shirley Babcock and husband Terry and Sandi Vaught and husband Gary, both of Odessa; brother, Roy Simpkins of Odessa; sisters, Annie Hopper and Winnie Jackson, both of Marble Falls, Bea Peavy of Hawaii, Faye McKay of Kermit and Nell Belz of Monahans; four grandchildren, Amy Pattillo and husband Tim, Toni Rankin and husband Cody and Shawn and Travis Vaught; and two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Taylor Pattillo.

Alfred Berlin
ODESSA — Alfred Berlin, 89, beloved father, husband, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born Sept. 18, 1912, in Weatherford. He married
Lula Ann Ball on Dec. 11, 1936. They celebrated 50 happy years of marriage in 1986. She preceded him in death in January 1992. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
He moved to Odessa in 1942 from Parker County. He worked for Wagoner Machine Shop for over 30 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, joining shortly after arriving here. He and his wife were longtime members of the couples Sunday school class and enjoyed spending time with them. He loved traveling with his family and with an RV club and spent many happy hours with his sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, July 13, 2002, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Trout officiating. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include his sons, Charles A Berlin and wife Harriett and Reed Berlin and his wife Gayle, all of Odessa; grandchildren, Charles Allan Berlin of Castroville, Darrell Wayne Berlin and his wife Janella of Odessa, Carol Jane Stein and husband Robert of Houston, Robert Lee Berlin and wife Sueleal of Greenville, Ind., Angie Lin and husband Walt of Lenoir City, Tenn., Linda Kidd and husband Billy of Odessa, Bob Berlin of Columbia, Mo., and James Thompson of Houston; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Doris Jean Davis
ODESSA — Doris Jean Davis, age 61, of Odessa passed away Monday, July 8, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, July 13, 2002, at Martinez Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lewis V. Witherspoon of Lubbock officiating. Burial will be at Ector County cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Friday at Martinez Funeral Home.
Doris was born Dec. 5, 1940, in Bremond to Furmon Davis Sr. and Pearline Davis. She moved to Odessa with her parents at an early age. After the death of her mother, she resided with her sister Cora until sunset.
She leaves to cherish her memory her father, Furmon Davis Sr. of Odessa; three brothers, Vernon Frank Davis and Furmon Davis Jr., both of Odessa, and Johnny Davis of Fort Worth; and three sisters, Cora D. Holbert and Linda Faye Ward, both of Odessa, and Billie Jean Womack of Fort Worth.
Services are under the care of Martinez Funeral Home.
Anna B. Eppinger
ODESSA — Anna B. Eppinger, 91, of Fort Stockton passed away Monday, July 8, 2002, at the Fort Stockton Nursing Home. She was born Nov. 24, 1910, in Chattanooga, Okla.
Anna had worked as the secretary to the publisher of the Odessa American for over 11 years and was a member of the Eastern Star for 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, E.L. “George” Eppinger; daughter, Lucy; and grandson, Wallace E. Eppinger.
She is survived by her son, Neal Eppinger of Odessa; sister, Fay Lucille Welch of Houston; and two grandchildren, Angie Eppinger and Shandra Dicken.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. today, July 11, 2002, at the Odessa cemetery with the Rev. Melvin Warren officiating.

Joe Eddie Ellison
ODESSA — Joe Eddie Ellison, 64, of Odessa, a retired employee of the Ector County Independent School District, died Monday, March 4, 2002, at Midland Memorial Hospital and Medical Center.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Ellison II, and his mother, Bertha Lene Jones-Ellison.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille Ellison of Odessa; son, Joe E. Ellison Jr. of Houston; daughters, Denna Gibson and Evalyn Mazone, both of Odessa; grandchildren, Dewayne Gibson of Dallas, Andae Gibson of Dallas, Chantell Mazone of Odessa and Jerome Mazone of Odessa; brothers, Robert Ellison III of Pampa, Harold Ellison of Pampa, Ardie Neal Ellis of Pacific Grove, Calif., and Paul Ellison of Denver, Colo.; and sister, Jewel Williams of Denver.
He was born July 1, 1937, in Wellington, the son of Robert and Bertha Ellison II.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday with family hour from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Martinez Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2002, at Life Unlimited Church with Pastor Dan Palmer of Life Unlimited Church officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Kathryn Griffin-Dorman
SANTA FE — Kathryn Griffin-Dorman, 38, of Pearland passed away Monday, March 4, 2002, in Alvin.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 8, 2002, at First Assembly of God Church in Santa Fe with Pastor Roger Bailey officiating. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2002, at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. today at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City.
Ms. Dorman was born Dec. 13, 1963, in Abilene. She was a certified emergency medical technician and member of the First Assembly of God Church in Santa Fe.
Survivors include daughters, Cherry Griffin and partner Clayton Karlson of Pasadena and Jamie McGinnis of Freeport; son, John Grizzaffi of Columbus, Ohio; parents, Gene and Kathy Brunkenhoefer of Santa Fe; grandmother, Rose Brunkenhoefer; brothers, Emmett Brunkenhoefer and wife Michelle of Santa Fe and Mitchelle Brunkenhoefer and wife Cindi of Lufkin; sisters, Delora Bunch of Alvin, Melissa Brown of Santa Fe and Michelle Brunkenhoefer of Plano; former husband, William Dorman; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers are Benny Thomas, Troy Kelley, Bob Thomas, Emmett Brunkenhoefer, Mitchelle Brunkenhoefer and Gary Burns. Honorary pallbearers are William Dorman, Indian Bill, and Clayton Karlson.
Joe Dibrell Heath
KERMIT — Joe Dibrell Heath, M.D., died March 4, 2002, at an El Paso hospital due to respiratory failure.
Dr. Joe Heath was born May 16, 1917, in Hondo, Texas. Dr. Heath graduated valedictorian from Sinton High School in 1934. He graduated from UT-Austin in 1942 and received his M.D. degree from Southwestern Medical College in 1945. He served his internship in Denver, Colo., and his residency in San Angelo.
Dr. Heath served in the U.S. Army from 1943 through 1948. In 1949, he opened his general medical practice in Kermit where he served the community for the next 40 years.
Apart from his medical practice, Dr. Heath was very active in civic and other organizations. He was a member of the Kermit school board from 1964 until 1969. He was active in the Masonic Lodge, York Rite and Scottish Rite Masons, as well as the Texas Medical Association and the Reeves, Ward and Winkler County Medical Society. From 1967 until 1971, the State Department employed Dr. Heath as a volunteer physician in Vietnam. He received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Southwestern Medical College and the University of Texas in 1968.
After his retirement in 1989, Dr. Heath continued to be of service to his community by tutoring the students at West Texas Children’s Home in Pyote.
Dr. Joe Heath was preceded in death by his sister, Billie Crow, and his loving wife, Frances Roberts Heath, whom he married
Oct. 9, 1943.
Dr. Heath is survived by his sons, Robert L. “Bob” Heath of Farmington, N.M., and William A. “Bill” Heath of El Paso; and grandchildren, Shelly Bagley of Henderson, Nev., Randy Heath of Houston, Shaylon Whittington of Oklahoma City, Okla., Dire Naranjo of Hobbs, N.M., Quinn Heath of Odessa and Bob Sutherland III of Katy. He leaves five great-grandchildren, two nieces, three nephews, and his brother, Jack Heath of Hondo.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 6, 2002, and Thursday, March 7, 2002, at Cooper Funeral Chapel in Kermit. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 8, 2002, at First United Methodist Church in Kermit with interment at Oaklawn cemetery in Terrell.
Donations may be made to the Scottish Rite Hospital.
