Melvin “Skinny” Parker
MENARD — Melvin “Skinny” Parker was born Oct. 3, 1921, in Teague, Texas and moved with his family to Menard, Texas in 1925.
While attending school in Menard, he was known as a tennis and track star. He quit school to begin his lifelong career as a cook. Prior to World War II, he cooked in the Hill Country of Texas.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the outset of World War II, being assigned to the 23rd USN CBs and seeing action first in Alaska, then in the Pacific Theater. He was discharged from the U.S. Navy in December of 1945. Returning to Texas, he was a cook in Central Texas and again in the Hill Country.
While working in Ingram, Texas, in 1948, he met and married
his wife of 37 years, Hazel Vancil Parker. She died in 1985. They moved to Odessa in 1948. During the ’50s and early ’60s he worked in many cafes in Odessa — the Club Cafe, Cookies Cafe, Dudes Cafe, Manuel’s restaurant, the Grand Cafe, the Lincoln Hotel and the Fritz Café.
In 1963, he became the owner of Jonesville Truck Stop Cafe and in the ’60s the Sand and Sage restaurant. He sold both of these and opened the Country Cafe, which he operated until 1985.
In 1992, he married
Peggy Parker and moved back to his childhood home of Menard, Texas.
He was a member of the Texas Restaurant Association and a Life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post 4372.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J.F. and Faye Parker; brother, Alvin Parker; sons, Alvin and Calvin Parker.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Parker of Menard; daughters, Sandra Kay Beason and husband Ray of Burleson and Debra Lewallen and husband Raymond of Andrews; sons, Melvin Parker and wife Chiquita of Odessa and Raymond Parker and wife Elaine of Odessa; step-children, Phillip Parker and wife Linda of Hext, Texas, Karen Poss and husband Ken of Grapecreek, Texas and David Parker and wife Sharon of Menard, Texas; sisters, Myrtle Wright of Menard, Nerine Zumalt of Kerrville; grandchildren, Crystal Theodousas and Sheri Lerma of Odessa, Stacy Sumter of Glendale, Ariz., Melissa Bucklew of Rodeo, Calif., Brenda Parker of Andrews, Eric Lewallen of San Angelo, Christopher Lewallen of the U.S. Army, Kim Gross of Grand Rapids, Mich., Kelly Guess of Jacksonville, Texas, Randy Teal of Colleyville, Texas, and Charlene of New Braunfels; and 17 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Vistacare Hospice of San Angelo.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 22, 2002, at the First Baptist Church of Menard with the Revs. Steve Tompkins and Guy White officiating. Graveside services will be at 5 p.m. Monday at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa, Texas.
Johnny F. Romero
ODESSA — Johnny F. Romero of Odessa died Thursday, July 18, 2002, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 30, 1944, in Burns, Ind. He served his country during the Vietnam War in the Army as a proud member of the 1st Infantry Division. He was employed with Abbott Building Co. for the past 31 years as a construction foreman.
Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2002, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with the Rev. Pablo Tiong officiating. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Martinez Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Rose Hill cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Romero; mother, Benencia Nunez; and brother, Salvador Romero.
He is survived by his wife, Eva M. Romero of Odessa; five sons, Samuel Romero and wife Christina of Arlington, Oscar Aguero and wife Cheri of Odessa, John Romero, Paul Romero and Robert Romero, all of Dallas; two brothers, Alejo Romero of Decatur, Ind., and Zeke Romero of Redwood, Calif.; three sisters, Elizabeth Avila and Noemi Pena, both of Crystal City, and Minerva Espinosa of Turlock, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

LENAPAH, Okla. - Alice Marie Cooper, 75, of Odessa, a homemaker, died Sunday, July 7, 2002, at the Hospice House.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mount Washington cemetery. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
She was born in Nowata, Okla. She was Baptist.
SURVIVORS: Husband, Vernon Cooper of Odessa; daughters, Sherry Rose of Navasota, Jan Reynolds of Odessa and Vicki Stewart of Georgetown; numerous grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Bob Radabaugh
ODESSA - Bob L. Radabaugh, 74, of Odessa, former owner of Rebbco Chemicals, died Sunday, July 7, 2002, at his residence.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Craig Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
He was born in Oklahoma City and moved to Odessa in 1963.

Skyler James Greenwood
ODESSA — Skyler James Greenwood, 6 weeks old, of Odessa passed away Friday, July 5, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. Skyler was born May 23, 2002, in Las Vegas, Nev.
He is survived by his mother, Sasha Tylka of Odessa; father, Robert Greenwood of Las Vegas; grandparents, Harold Tylka of Odessa, Barbara and David Clark of Las Vegas and Glenn and Maria Greenwood of New Jersey; great-grandmother, Frances Favia of Las Vegas; great-aunts and uncles, Dianne and Mark Vaught of Odessa, Debbie Flanhery of Truckee, Nev., and Thomas Bean of California; and cousins, Christopher, Kimberly and Jeffrey Vaught of Odessa, Stephanie, Bruce, Tiffany and Brittney Thisted of Odessa and Jenna and Christopher Bean of California.

Lloyd C. Lane
LAS VEGAS — Lloyd C. Lane, 64, of Las Vegas, Nev. passed away July 4, 2002 at a Las Vegas hospital.
He was born Sept. 12, 1937 in Paris, Texas to Ralph and Hazel Lane. He graduated from Pascal High School in Fort Worth and attended TCU where he played baseball. He was an excellent golfer and played in numerous tournaments with many professional golfers such as Tom Watson.
He had lived in Odessa and Dallas and was currently living in Las Vegas where he was self-employed. Nicknamed “Chief,” Lloyd had a wonderful sense of humor and many, many friends. He will be greatly missed by all.
Services are currently pending.
He was preceded in death by his father Ralph C. Lane and his son Lloyd C. Lane Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Lane of Las Vegas; mother, Hazel Lane of Dallas; daughter, Tisha Lane Regalado and granddaughter, Marissa Regalado of Odessa; brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Marjorie Lane of Dallas; and nephew, Grant Lane of Denton.

Sue McAnally
ODESSA — Sue McAnally, 86, of Odessa passed away Sunday, July 7, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. She lived at Avalon Place Nursing Home. She was born April 30, 1916, in Mangum, Okla. She was a homemaker and a member of Northside Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mac McAnally, and son-in-law, Jimmy Osborne.
She is survived by her daughter, Tommie Osborne of Odessa, and grandson, Darrel Osborne of Odessa.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at Northside Baptist Church with the Rev. Clydel Chapman officiating. Interment will follow at Odessa cemetery.

Barbara Joy McBride
EARLY — Barbara Joy McBride, beloved daughter, sister, cousin, aunt and friend, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2002, at her home in Grand Prairie.
She was born July 17, 1941, in May, Texas, and graduated from Midland High School. She loved music, games, spending time with her family and her precious dog, Tina. Barbara worked for many years for Dr. Glenn Williams in Odessa and many more in TXU Customer Service in Odessa and Las Colinas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Camilla McBride of Early.
Barbara is survived by her sisters, Mae Claire McCoard of Arlington and Nelda Holman of Midland; brothers, Stanley McBride Jr. and wife Becky of Odessa and Johnny McBride of Odessa; nephews, Richard Lynch of Plano and Monte Lynch of Arlington; niece, Sharon Kizer of Midland; and many more uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, July 10, 2002, at Heartland Funeral Home in Early. Interment will follow at the May cemetery.
Barbara’s loving and giving spirit was a gift to all who knew her, and she will be greatly missed.
William Campbell
SEMINOLE — William Campbell, 79, of Seminole, a tool pusher, died Thursday, June 6, 2002, at his residence.

He was born in Eastland County.

ALPINE — Willie Thames, 84, of Alpine, a retired schoolteacher, died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at her residence.
Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Methodist Church with the Rev. Dick Zimmer officiating. Burial was at Elm Grove cemetery. Arrangements by Geeslin Funeral Home.
She was born in Minerva. She was Methodist.
