WINGATE — Sande Leigh Miller, 37, of Wingate, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002 at a local medical center.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 Hwy. 277 South. Burial will follow at Wingate cemetery, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Homes, 5701 Hwy. 277 South.
Sande was born Feb. 24, 1964 in Odessa. She graduated from Odessa High School and attended college in Uvalde on a rodeo scholarship. She received an Associate’s Degree from Odessa College. She was a member of several barrel racing associations and won All-Around Cowgirl in 1977 with AJRA and many more awards throughout the years of her rodeo career.
Survivors include her parents, Arbie and Betty Miller of Wingate; a grandmother, Lorene Phillips; a special friend, Murmur Tuckness; several aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives.

Dorothy Ann Bates Martin
ODESSA — Dorothy Ann Bates Martin passed away in her sleep Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Dorothy, a longtime resident of Odessa, was born June 1, 1928, in Odessa. She was a local artist and longtime employee of TG&Y and Wal-Mart.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James A. and Dona Martin of Odessa; her daughter, Sue Clark of Seguin; and her daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Ronnie Adams of Seguin. She is also survived by her two brothers, Tom Bates and his wife Jennie of Spring and Frank Bates of Odessa. Dorothy was blessed and is survived by three grandsons, James Martin Jr. and his wife Sarah, Michael Charles Adams and his wife Francis and children of Lakeside, Calif., and David Eric Adams of Corpus Christi.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Ruth Bates, and her sister, Betty Ann Clark.
She will always be our Nanny Martin.
Services are pending, and in lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials be directed to a local charitable organization.

George L. Meason
ODESSA — George L. Meason, age 87, a resident of Odessa since 1939, passed away at the Hospice House in Odessa.
Graveside services are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. today, Feb. 9, 2002, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Clydel Chapman of Northside Baptist Church officiating.
George Lahn Meason was born March 23, 1914, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Julius and Ida Krug Lahn. George was adopted at age 6 by John and Josie Brock Meason.
George was the former president of the Orphan Train Heritage Society. He rode the train in 1920 from New York City to Whitewright, where he was adopted by the Measons. He married
Audie Henderson on Aug. 13, 1937, in Bailey. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
George was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was the former owner of the Victory Village Grocery. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 21 years and later was co-owner of Yesterday’s Treasures.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Audie Meason of Odessa; his son, Joe Meason and wife Bette of Amarillo; daughters, George Ann Baker and husband George of Granbury, Patty Higdon and husband Charles of El Reno, Okla., and Dawna Alsabrook of Mansfield; sisters, Elizabeth Grisham of Leonard, Carolynn Watson of Leonard and Anna Ross of Bonham; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
The family requests memorials to Hospice House.
Services are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Nina Lenora Langlie Winjum
ODESSA — Nina Lenora Langlie Winjum, 95, of Odessa died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at the Hospice House of Odessa.
Mrs. Winjum was born April 16, 1906, in Pelican Rapids, Minn., the daughter of Gunnleig and Antonette Langlie, the ninth of 11 children. After graduating from Pelican High School, she earned a teaching certificate from Moorhead State College. While teaching school in Middle River, Minn., she met and married
James Winjum on June 11, 1931. The couple moved to Thief River Falls, Minn., where he owned Hartz Supermarket until his death in 1963. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Hospital Auxiliary. She remained in Thief River Falls until 1994 when she moved to Odessa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, six sisters, four brothers and a grandson.
She is survived by her son, James and his wife Kathleen Winjum of Pelican Rapids, Minn.; her daughter, Diane Cunningham and husband John of Odessa; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She will be greatly missed.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today, Feb. 9, 2002, at First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at a later date at Greenwood cemetery in Thief River Falls, Minn.

Sandi E. (Halbert) Yerby
EL PASO — Graveside services for Sandi E. (Halbert) Yerby, 59, of El Paso are scheduled for 10 a.m. today at Restlawn Memorial Park in El Paso under the direction of Kaster-Maxon and Futrell Funeral Home.
Family visitations were held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Kaster-Maxon and Futrell Funeral Home in El Paso.
Mrs. Yerby died Tuesday, June 11, 2002, in El Paso after a lengthy battle with lupus. She had lived most of her life in El Paso. She was director of the Lupus Foundation for 23 years and was involved with several schools in the El Paso District with the drill and flag teams. She was also a baton teacher for many years and had worked with the El Paso Shriners Drum and Drill Corp. for several years preparing the team for competition in which they won top honors.
Survivors include her sons, Mike Yerby of Denver and Jeff Yerby of El Paso; daughter, Kelli Blanco of El Paso; sister, Pamela Gatlin of Odessa; parents, Olen and Lucille Halbert of Odessa; and three grandchildren, all of El Paso. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. She will be deeply missed.
Joy Allen
ODESSA - Joy Ellis Allen, 71, of Odessa, a retail employee, died Sunday, July 14, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Sunset Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Cleere officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
She was born in Tahoka and moved to Odessa in 1958 from Seminole. She was Methodist.

KERVILLE - Frances E. Gallagher, 78, of Kerrville died Friday, July 12, 2002, at a local hospital.

ODESSA - Elizardo S. Chale Lujan Sr., 51, of Odessa, an asbestos remover in the oil industry, died Saturday, July 13, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital.

ANDREWS - Ann R. Seay, 86, of Bedford, a retired nurse, died Friday, July 12, 2002, at Harris H.E.B. Hospital in Bedford.

She was born in Jackson, Tenn., and had been a resident of Lubbock and Andrews before moving to Bedford. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
