He was born in Hillsboro. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

ODESSA - Velma Hodges, 93, of Odessa, a homemaker, died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at Avalon Place Nursing Home.

She was born in San Augustine and moved to Odessa in 1977. She was Baptist.

Secundino Ramos
MARATHON - Secundino B. Ramos, 75, of Marathon, a retired foreman for Big Bend National Park, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, in San Angelo.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at St. Marys Catholic Church with the Revs. Rick Ruiz and Ildefonso DeLeon officiating. Burial will be at the Marathon cemetery. Arrangements by Memorial Funeral Home.
He was born in Marathon. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

SEMINOLE - Irene Rhea, 84, of Seminole, a homemaker, died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at her residence.

She was born in Burnett and moved to Seminole in 1952 from Fort Worth. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

FORT STOCKTON - Dolores R. Valeriano, 72, of Fort Stockton, a retired employee of Pecos County, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, in Fort Stockton.

He was born in Coyame, Mexico, and had been a resident of Carlsbad, N.M., before moving to Fort Stockton 38 years ago. He was Catholic.

ODESSA - Terry Yarbrough, 39, of Odessa, owner of TKN Services, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at his residence.

He was born in Muncie, Ind., and moved to Odessa in 1981.

Doris Brasuel Yarbrough
ATLANTA, Texas — Doris Brasuel Yarbrough, 62, of Odessa, passed away Friday, June 7, 2002 at her residence.
“I can find no serenity until I can accept that person, place, thing or situation as being exactly the way it is supposed to be at this moment. Nothing, absolutely nothing, happens in God’s world by mistake.”
Doris Janet Brasuel was born to Morris Ray and Sissie Brasuel on June 10, 1939, in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was named after her mother’s best friend, Doris. She was the second of four children. Her childhood was spent in Colorado City and teen years in Beaumont where she graduated from high school and married
.
Billy Ray was born July 12, 1956, Gerri and Kara were born in May 1959 and 1962 respectively. Jennifer came along in 1976.
Doris was “unique” and had many artistic interests. Her greatest joy was her family, children and grandchildren. Her family was her pride and joy.
She spent her time in prayer and meditation and cherished her inspirational books and daily walk with God. Jesus Christ is her Lord and Savior. She was a wonderful mother and a beautiful person. The gates of heaven must surely welcome her.
She is survived by three daughters, Gerri Carlisle of Midland, Kara Gills of Nashville, Ark., and Jennifer Bommersbach of Odessa; two brothers, Gerald R. Brasuel of Robert Lee and L.C. Brasuel of Denver City; one sister, Shirley Huckeba of Odessa; seven grandchildren, Trey, Justin, Matt, Garrett, Bryce, Leigha and Loren; one great-grandchild, Lilly; numerous nieces and nephews and cousins as well as her beloved pets, Dixie Belle and Mickey Blue.
Public visitation will be held from 1 p.m to 9 p.m. Sunday with the family to receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, June 10, 2002, in the Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with Trey O’Rear, her grandson, officiating. Graveside services are scheduled for 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Laws Chapel cemetery in Atlanta, Texas, where she will be placed next to her son, Billy Ray Tucker.

Truman Grace Reed
ODESSA — Truman Grace Reed, 78, of Odessa, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2002, at the Hospice House.
She was born Sept. 5, 1923, in Loraine, Texas. She moved to Odessa in 1948 from Colorado City. She was a homemaker and a member of George Knauff Rebecca Lodge No. 119 and the River of Life Assembly of God Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Reed in 1991 and a son, Carlton H. Fisher.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda K. French of Odessa, seven grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 10, 2002 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Baker officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Thomas Albert Loughland
ODESSA — Thomas Albert Loughland, 79, of Odessa, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at the Hospice House.
He was born Jan. 13, 1923, in Long Beach, Calif.
He married
Doris Crane on May 22, 1946 in Las Vegas. He was a World War II Army veteran of the Eighth Air Force 450th Bomber Squad. He was a retired field service engineer.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Loughland of Odessa; daughters, Vickie Mercado and husband, Marcos of San Clemente, Calif., Tammi Peters and husband Jeff of Garrettsville, Ohio; brothers, Robert Loughland and wife Marion of Sunset Beach, Calif., and James Loughland of Kingman, Ariz.; sister, Joan Hawkins of Seattle, Wash.; four grandchildren, Tomas Mercado, Richard Mercado of San Clemente, Daniel Norman of Eglin Air Force Base in Florida, and Tonya Tobey of Stuttgart, Germany; two great-grandchildren, Joshua and Kelsey; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff of Medical Center Hospital, Lincoln Towers, Nurses Unlimited, Odyssey Hospice and the Hospice House. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2002, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Owen Sharp officiating.

Rita Madrid Cadena
ODESSA — Rita Madrid Cadena, 68 years of age, passed away on June 6, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital.
She was born May 22, 1934, in Presidio, Texas, to Antonio and Monica Madrid. Mrs. Cadena was a housewife and a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her mother, Monica G. Madrid, son, Vicente Maldonado, and sister, Amelia Madrid.
Surviving is her father, Antonio Madrid, of Odessa; a very special companion in her life, Eusebio Luna of Odessa; five sons all of Odessa, Emiterio Cadena, Oscar and wife, Bertha Cadena, Abel Cadena, Tony Cadena and Ricky Cadena; one daughter, Amelia Cadena of Odessa; three brothers, all of Odessa, Jesus Madrid, Albert Madrid, and Basilio Madrid; one sister, Manuela Valdez of Odessa; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Isaac Cadena, Maura Alvarez, Abel Abila, Rey Abila, Julian Cadena, Oscar Cadena, Tomas Cruz, and Marcus Armendarez.
A rosary will be recited on Sunday, June 9, 2002, at 7 p.m. at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated Monday, June 10, 2002, at 10 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with the Rev. Frank Chavez officiating. Burial will follow at Rosehill cemetery.

Elsie Lee Majors Mackey
MIDLAND — Elsie Lee Majors Mackey, 97, died peacefully at her home in Midland on Monday, April 8, 2002.
Elsie Lee was born Nov. 2, 1904, the eldest of three children, born to the late jewelers Mr. and Mrs. Sam L. Majors Sr. of Colorado City.
Mrs. Mackey graduated from Colorado City High School in 1922, attended Southern Methodist University and in 1928 married
businessman, philanthropist and automobile dealer Lloyd Graham Mackey Sr., who preceded her in death in January of 1964.
Mr. and Mrs. Mackey moved to Midland in October 1934 where they built their home in the heart of what is now Midland’s Historical District and where Elsie Lee lived in until her death.
Lloyd and Elsie Lee were charter members of the Midland Country Club and members of the First Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Mackey enjoyed traveling with her husband and family to their vacation home in Ruidoso, N.M. and she took great pride in her tropical and other exotic flowers raised in her vast greenhouse. She was a member of La Merienda Bridge Club and enjoyed reading and needlework. Elsie credited her active lifestyles, longevity and sharp mental ability to a life full of activity and a keen desire to live life to it’s fullest potential.
Mrs. Mackey is survived by her three children: a son, Lloyd Graham Mackey Jr.; daughters, Ann Mackey Williams and husband Ronnie, Kay Mackey Tom and husband James, all of Midland; grandchildren, Susan Tom Mann and husband Gary, James R. Tom Jr. and wife Vicki, all of Houston, Beth Ann Williams Muehlbrad and husband Brett of Midland, Chris Tom Cockrell and husband Cory of Tampa, Fla. and Michael Lee Mackey and wife Pam of Huntsville; great-grandchildren, Myka Lyn Mackey of Huntsville and Chase Christian Mann of Houston; sister, Martha Majors Nickson; niece, Ellen Nickson Sandifer; and nephews, Ned Nickson of Sherman, Sam L. Majors III and his wife Mary Ann of Midland and Mark B. Majors of Austin.
Mrs. Mackey lost her beloved brother Sam L. Majors Jr. to cancer in 1993.
The family wishes to express deep love and appreciation to Mrs. Mackey’s caregivers for the long standing hours of gentle respect, love and compassion over the past 10 years; Julie Valdespino, Maria Manriquez, Grace Villareal, Laura Villareal and Blanca Valdespino, as well as all the staff and volunteers of Hospice of Midland.
Memorial services have been scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, April 11, 2002, at First Presbyterian Church Chapel with Dr. Jerry Hilton officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be sent to First Presbyterian Church, Hospice of Midland or the charity of one’s choice.
