Olivia Acosta
BIG LAKE — Olivia Acosta, 74, of Big Lake died Tuesday, April 9, 2002, at her residence.
Rosary was said at 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. today, April 11, 2002, at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in Glen Rest cemetery with Father Barry McLean officiating. Arrangements by Johnson’s Funeral Home of San Angelo.
Mrs. Acosta was born April 2, 1928 in Alpine. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pedro V. Acosta; her parents, Vicente and Michaela Garcia; brothers, Alfonso Garcia and Francisco Garcia; and a sister, Trina Cobos.
She is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Acosta of Lubbock and Loriza and husband Mario Hernandez of Big Lake; three sons, Joe Acosta of Odessa, Pete Acosta and wife Berta of McAllen and Danny Acosta and wife Jenna of Crane; her pride and joy grandchildren, Lori Torres, Michelle Acosta, Anthony Acosta, Peter John Acosta and Nicole Primera, Josh Hernandez, Lendell Hernandez and Greg Acosta; great-grandchildren, Stephanie Torres, Leeanna Torres, Diana Acosta-Fierro, Gabi Acosta, Nathanial Acosta and Seth Primera; two brothers, Jose Garcia and Daniel Garcia, both of Alpine; one sister, Esperanza Espinoza of Alpine; and several nieces and nephews.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Memorials may be made to a favorite catholic charity.
Shannon Raburn-Wyatt
Shannon Raburn-Wyatt, 29, passed away on April 2, 2002, in Frisco, Texas.
She was born July 12, 1972, in Odessa, Texas and graduated from Permian High School in 1990.
Shannon married
Michael Roy Wyatt in the home of her stepfather Stacy Thatcher and her mother Shelley Thatcher on May 8, 1993, in Odessa, Texas.
Shannon and Michael moved to Mannheim, Germany where they lived for three years.
Shannon and Michael moved to Odessa from Germany in 1995 and then moved to Carrollton in 1996.
Shannon is survived by her husband, Michael Roy Wyatt of Carrollton, Tx., whom she was married
to until her death; their son, Hayden Ray Wyatt who resides with his father; her stepdaughter, Jessie Wyatt of Lubbock, Tx., father-in-law Kenneth Ray Wyatt; stepmother-in-law, Rebekah Wyatt; stepsister-in-law, Candace Perry; stepsister-in-law, Victoria Perry; brother-in-law, Steve Wyatt; sister-in-law, Paula Wyatt; niece, Bethany Wyatt; nephew, Jonathan Wyatt all of Odessa, Texas; sister-in-law, Mitzi Wyatt of Brownwood, Tx; and brother, Shane Thatcher of Odessa.
Funeral services were held April 4, 2002, at 3 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Shannon fought a courageous battle with cancer with the support of her husband, Michael Wyatt and son, Hayden Wyatt and other family and friends.
She was very loved and will be deeply forever missed. The family requests memorials to the American Cancer Society or Hospice House.
George Melton
ODESSA — On Tuesday, April 9, 2002, George Melton joined his beloved wife and Lord Jesus in Heaven.
He died at Medical Center Hospital after a brief illness. He was born March 6, 1919 in Wirt, Okla. to Harvey and Pearl Melton. He married
Eileen Brandon on Sept. 21, 1940.
George served in the U.S. Army 45th Division from September 1940 until September 1945 in the European Theater. He was awarded six Bronze Stars and one Bronze Arrowhead.
George had many varied careers until moving to Odessa in 1960. He began working for Gibson’s Discount Center in the early 1960’s and opened the first store on Grandview as the toy manager. He worked at all of the Gibson’s stores until the mid 70’s. Anyone who was a customer in the housewares, automotive or sporting goods department crossed paths with George. In his retirement he worked part-time for Abbott’s oilfield Supply until finally retiring in 1995 to care for his wife. When George was able to get away he loved fishing on the river with his friends. George was a charter member of Central Baptist Church.
He was a hardworking, loving father and grandfather who provided and cared deeply for his family. George was well loved by all that knew him and was especially loved by his many neighborhood kids and their families.
His wife, father, mother, three brothers and one sister preceded George in death.
He is survived by his son, Donnie Melton and his fiancee Shelly of Odessa; daughter, Beverly Ford and husband Vance of Odessa; one brother, J.C. Melton of Oklahoma City, Okla.; three grandchildren, Scarlet Melton, Brandon and Stacy Ford and four future grandchildren also survive him.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 12, 2002, at Central Baptist Church, 1401 N. Texas with the Rev. David Johnson officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
If desired, memorials can be made to the Building Fund at Central Baptist Church.
Services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Alisha Hambrice
ODESSA — Alisha Hambrice, age 15, died Monday, April 8, 2002, in Midland. She was born Aug. 5, 1986 in Odessa.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 12, 2002, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with Pastor Tony Dennis officiating. Interment will be at Rose Hill cemetery.
Alisha graduated from Hood Middle School in 2000. Since then her parents have home schooled her. She had been active in the youth group at Agape Ministries, she was a very outgoing, loving person with many friends.
She is survived by her parents; Dennis and Karen Hambrice of Odessa, sisters; Lindsey Hambrice and Leslie Hambrice of Odessa, Ginger Hambrice of El Paso, brothers; Jeromy Myers of Phoenix, AZ, David L. Hambrice of Odessa and Shaun Myers of Moriarty, NM, uncles; Valon Sapp and wife Carla of Odessa, and Larry Kessler and wife, Orma of Odessa.

Alfred Berlin
ODESSA — Alfred Berlin, 89, beloved father, husband, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born Sept. 18, 1912, in Weatherford. He married
Lula Ann Ball on Dec. 11, 1936. They celebrated 50 happy years of marriage in 1986. She preceded him in death in January 1992. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
He moved to Odessa in 1942 from Parker County. He worked for Wagoner Machine Shop for over 30 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, joining shortly after arriving here. He and his wife were longtime members of the couples Sunday school class and enjoyed spending time with them. He loved traveling with his family and with an RV club and spent many happy hours with his sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, July 13, 2002, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Trout officiating. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include his sons, Charles A Berlin and wife Harriett and Reed Berlin and his wife Gayle, all of Odessa; grandchildren, Charles Allan Berlin of Castroville, Darrell Wayne Berlin and his wife Janella of Odessa, Carol Jane Stein and husband Robert of Houston, Robert Lee Berlin and wife Sueleal of Greenville, Ind., Angie Lin and husband Walt of Lenoir City, Tenn., Linda Kidd and husband Billy of Odessa, Bob Berlin of Columbia, Mo., and James Thompson of Houston; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Louise Bridges
ODESSA — Louise Bridges of Odessa died Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at Odessa Regional Hospital. She was born Nov. 1, 1919, in Huntington, Ark.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 13, 2002, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Griffin Jones officiating. A family visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Louise Bridges lived 82 loving and caring years. Her loving spirit will live on through her adult children, granddaughter, treasured family members and her many adored and lifelong friends. She will be remembered for her laughter, gift of gab, kindness, thoughtfulness and generosity. She never missed an occasion to remember someone with a touching card or phone call. Mrs. Bridges moved to Odessa in 1966. She was the former owner of Slumberland Sleep Shop and attended Temple Baptist Church. She married
Morgan Bridges Dec. 25 in Tulsa, Okla.
Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Morgan Bridges; daughter, Christie Bridges; parents, John and Mamie Harrison; brother, Harold Harrison; sister-in-law, Lillian Harrison; and friend of family, Sol Oxford.
She is survived by a son, Mike Bridges of Odessa; daughter, Linda Gosnell of Midland; granddaughter, Kelly Gosnell; brother, Jean Harrison of Fort Smith, Ark.; sister-in-law, Katherine Harrison of Tulsa, Okla.; Dorothea and J.R. Collins of Clarksville, Ark., Delbert and Jean Bright of Longview, Joyce Honeyman and husband Ron of Bellvue, Wash., Judy Harrison of Addison, Jolynne McGee of Addison, Gretchen Clark and husband Aaron of Wheatland, Wyo.; and her three furry felines.

Kumud N. Desai
MIDLAND — Kumud N. Desai passed away Monday, June 10, 2002, at her Midland residence.
She was born Sept. 9, 1917, in Jhalod, Gujarat, India. Kumud lived a very religious life. She was generous, considerate and exemplified the Hindu philosophy.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years.
Kumud is survived by her son, Paresh Desai and his wife Pravina of Baltimore, Md.; daughter, Dr. Leena Shroff and her husband Dr. Nick Shroff of Midland; four grandchildren, Reema Kella, Rita Shroff, Troy Desai and Deepa Delhiwala; two great-grandchildren; one brother; and two sisters in India.
Services have been scheduled for 11:30 a.m. today, June 12, 2002, at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel. Concluding services will be held at the Trinity Memorial Park Crematory, 6900 S. Highway 87, Big Spring, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.

Onean Harris
ODESSA — Onean Harris, 64, of Odessa passed away Sunday, June 9, 2002, at Midland Memorial Hospital and Medical Center. She was born Aug. 18, 1937, in Oklahoma City, Okla. She was a member of West Odessa First Baptist Church. Mrs. Harris and her late husband Freddie owned F.D. Harris Housemovers for 30 years.
She is survived by daughters, Sherrie Harris of Odessa and Sondra Cooper and husband Michael of Sheffield; brother, Ralph Lawrence of Moore, Okla.; and two grandchildren, Randi and James Cooper of Sheffield.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 13, 2002, at West Odessa First Baptist Church with the Rev. David Howard officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
James Jeffrey Holifield
MIDLAND — James Jeffrey Holifield passed away peacefully, after a lengthy illness, Monday, June 10, 2002, at Zale Lipshy Hospital in Dallas.
Jeff was born April 19, 1963, in Odessa to Steve and Sandra Holifield. He grew up in Crane and graduated from Crane High School in 1981, later attending Odessa College. Jeff was the owner of Westwind Insurance Agency in Crane until 1993 when he moved to Menard to pursue ranching interest fulltime. He was a director and past president of the Menard Chamber of Commerce and supporter of various youth activities and community organizations in both communities. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Crane.
He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Valree McCauley of Odessa and Pearl Holifield of Laurel, Miss.
He is survived by his parents, Steve and Sandra Holifield Sr. of Midland; brother, Steve Holifield Jr. and his wife Lisa; grandfather, James Orr of Brady; nieces, Landry, Lindsay and Laramie Holifield; nephew, Jake Holifield, all of Midland; aunts, Jackie Newcom of Friendswood, Amy Buchanan of Midland, Frances Busby of Laurel, Miss., and Linda Orr of Lafayette, La.; uncles, John Orr of El Campo and Ridgely Holifield of Iraan; and numerous cousins.
Jeff touched the lives of many people, not only his family and friends whom dearly loved him, but also with his involvement in the organizations that were close to his heart. Jeff considered his work and commitment towards changing his own life and the lives of many others through Alcoholics Anonymous as his greatest single accomplishment. He was an adored son, loving brother and cherished uncle. His warm personality and thoughtfulness will be remembered by all those who knew him. He will truly be missed.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today, June 12, 2002, at Ellis Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Murray Warren, Jose Mireles, Gary Hamilton, Doug N. Hopkins, Boyd Murchison, Stan Albrecht and Dean Assum. Honorary pallbearers will be his cousins.
