Tony Mims
ODESSA — Mr. Mims was born Sept. 15, 1934, in Broken Bow, Okla., and passed away Aug. 1, 2002, at the V.A. Hospital in Big Spring.
Tony was raised at Methodist Childrens Home in Tahlequah, Okla. He was very active in FFA and won numerous awards for his show calves.
He graduated from high school in 1953 and enlisted in the Army the fall of 1953 and was honorably discharged in 1956. He campe to Odessa and married
Wanda Harmon on July 27, 1957.
Working in the oilfield for over 30 years, he raised his family in Odessa. Tony and Wanda had three children, Janna, James and Julie.
He enjoyed collecting items such as old signs and banks.
He was preceded in death by brother, Bob Mims, and sister, Faye Hooley.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Mims of Odessa; son, James Mims of Odessa; daughters, Janna Winchell and her husband, Roger, and Julie Simons, and her husband, Curtis, of Odessa; sisters, Louise Shirm of Albuqerque, N.M., and Wanda Jean Vanderburg of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and grandchildren, Lauren and Morgan Winchell.
He was known by his two granddaughters as Paw Paw and was very special to them.
His friendly smile will be missed by family and friends. Mr. Mims was a member of Sherwood Church of Christ.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Hubbard-Kelly chapel with Lynn Money officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Columbus Medlock
ODESSA — Columbus Medlock, 66, a retired mechanic, of Odessa, passed away Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at Plano Medical Center Hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at Rose of Sharon Baptist Church, with the Rev. J.W. Hanson officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Martinez Funeral Home.
He was born June 18, 1936, in Limestone County, Texas.
He was a Baptist.
He is survived by wife, Janet Medlock, of Odessa; son, David Earl Medlock, of Odessa; daughter, Inez Marie Medlock, of Arlington; brothers, A.D. Medlock and Colonus Roberson, both of Odessa; five grandchildren, Trameka Medlock, Breslum Medlock, both of Odessa, Le’Darion Medlock, of Arlington, David Earl Medlock II, Krystal Medlock, both of Lewisville, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Quantray Medlock and Aubreana Medlock, both of Odessa.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Elnora Archie Roberson and father, Reed Medlock and the late Rev. Medlock and stepfather, Colonus Roberson.

Margaret Frances Cox Hall
ODESSA — Margaret Frances Cox Hall passed to her heavenly home on Aug. 1, 2002, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born Jan. 15, 1934, in Taylor, Texas, to Frances Elizabeth Speegle and Perry Cox Jr., both of whom are deceased.
Margaret married
Thomas E. Hall on June 8, 1952. She leaves behind two children, Sharon Margo Hall and Lisa Jeanne Twilligear; two grandchildren, Marlisa and Travis, all of Odessa; a brother, Perry M. Cox III and wife, Judy, of N.C.; two nieces, Valorie and Vanessa and a nephew, Thomas.
Margaret graduated from Taylor High School and went on to Texas Christian University where she met her husband, Thomas E. Hall.
Margaret was active in Beta Sigma Phi for 43 years, where she held most offices. She was City Treasurer of the Odessa Women’s Bowling Association and was a charter member of Bethany Christian Church.
Margaret and Tommy lived in Kingsland, Texas, after retiring in 1997.
Memorial services will be entrusted to Bethany Christian Church, Aug. 6, 2002, with the Rev. Robert Scofield officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice House, Bethany Christian Church of the American Cancer Society.

Mary Elizabeth Buchanan
ABILENE — Mary Elizabeth Buchanan, 87, died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at an Abilene convalescent center.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Monday in Northview cemetery in Winters, Texas, with the Rev. Kevin Kennedy officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mary was born to Clara Sparks and Robert Jerry Bruce on May 15, 1915, in Bell County, Texas. In 1952, she moved to Abilene from Plainview, Texas, where she was a care supervisor at Abilene State School at the time of her retirement.
She married
Troy Buchanan Sr. on April 10, 1936, in Anson, Texas. Mrs. Buchanan was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband (d. 1988); a daughter, Frances Hudspeth (d. 1996); and three brothers, William Bruce, Bob Bruce Jr. and Sam Bruce.
Survivors include a son, T.A. (Troy) Buchanan Jr. of Odessa and Charles Buchanan of Irving; a daughter, Jerry Lou Young and her husband, Jerry, of Abilene; a sister, Lucille Hord of Winters; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

M. V. ‘Blackie’ Tickner
ODESSA — M. V. Tickner “Blackie” passed away Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital.
He was born June 5, 1915, to Martin Van and Mae Whitehead Tickner. He was born in Eastland County in a farmhouse south of Cisco, Texas. Blackie worked at various jobs throughout his life, drove logging trucks in Arizona, worked in a defense plant in Utah, managed the Balmorhea State Park for seven years and retired from the United States Postal Service.
Mr. Tickner served in the United States Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater in the Seventh Division 32nd Infantry Anti-Tank Company stationed in Seoul, Korea.
He is survived by one sister, Gladys Glenn of Breckenridge, Texas; an aunt, Thelma Tickner of Cisco; one daughter, Gwynette Greenwood and husband Benny of Hayden, Ariz.; one grandson, Tony Hodnett of Phoenix, Ariz.; one granddaughter, Gia “Danny” Valenzuela of Avondale, Ariz.; two great-grandsons, Logan Valenzuela of Avondale, Ariz. and Cpl. Jade Hodnett of Okinawa, Japan; and two great-granddaughters, Saraya Valenzuela of Avondale, Ariz. and Brandy Hodnett of Chandler, Ariz.; two nephews, Howard Hamilton of Cisco and Donald Hamilton of Lake Dallas, Texas; and one niece, Wanda Perry of Breckenridge; and numerous great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
Public viewing will be from 10 a.m. Sunday until 10:30 a.m. Monday. A private family committal service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Laveta Faye Johnson
GLEN ROSE — Laveta Faye Johnson, 88, of Glen Rose, died Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, in Glen Rose.

She was born in Paluxy. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church.

ODESSA — Domingo Ortega Piña Jr., 75, of Odessa, a retired truck driver, died Sunday, Sept. 29, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with the Rev. Frank Chavez officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. HOBBS, N.M. — James O. “Jiggs” Cole, 80, of Hobbs, N.M., died Sunday, Sept. 29, 2002, in Hobbs.

KERMIT - Curtis Brooks, 38, of Kermit, a truck driver, died Monday, July 1, 2002, in Odessa.

He was born in Lake Village, Ark., and was a resident of Kermit for 36 years. He was Baptist.
