Wanda Gail Perry
ODESSA — Our beloved wife and mother, Wanda Gail Chandler Perry, departed this world to redeem her Savior’s promise of resurrection and life eternal on the morning of Sept. 15, 2002, with her family at her bedside at Hospice House in Odessa, Texas.
Wanda was born May 18, 1937, in Santa Anna, Texas, to Ralph N. Chandler and Erma Riggs Chandler. She and her mother came to Odessa in 1950. She attended public schools in Odessa and graduated from Odessa High School in 1955. She was employed for many years in Midland at Robinson Bros. Drilling Co., Pioneer Natural Resources and Osborn and Uhl.
Wanda was a devout Christian and loved the Lord and her family with all her heart. She joined Highland United Methodist Church on Easter Sunday 1964 and was an active member until her illness prevented further participation. Her faith is exemplified by her belief in the promise of John 14:1-3: Let not your heart be troubled: Ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
She greatly enjoyed the companionship of her sisters in Beta Sigma Phi, and was a member of that organization from 1959 until her death.
She married
Bill Perry on Dec. 23, 1955, at First Methodist Church in Odessa.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Erma Setliff; her father, Ralph Chandler; and her stepfather, G.W. Setliff.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Bill Perry; daughter, Cecelia Tandy and husband Gary of Brookfield, Mo.; sons, Dean Perry of Albuquerque, N.M., and John Perry and wife Gwen of Odessa; brother G.W. “Sonny” Setliff and wife Judy of Midland; stepmother, Alma Crews of Newport News, Va.; grandchildren; Jennifer Pitt; Benjamin Tandy, Jonathon Perry, Julian Perry, Felicia Perry, Nikki Perry, Michael Perry, and Chelsea Perry; great-grandchildren, Alexis and Evan Anaya; and many other relatives and friends.
Finally, Wanda’s great love for her family is expressed by an anonymous writer:
To Those I Love and Those Who Love Me:
When I am gone, release me, let me go. I have so many things to see and do. You mustn’t tie yourself to me with tears. Be thankful for our beautiful years. I gave to you my love. You can only guess how much you gave to me in happiness. I thank you for the love you each have shown but now it’s time I traveled on alone. So grieve awhile for me if grieve you must, then let your grief be comforted by trust. It’s only for a time that we must part so bless the memories within your heart. I won’t be far away for life goes on, so if you need me call and I will come. Though you can’t see or touch me, I’ll be near, all my love around you, soft and clear. And then, when you must come this way alone, I’ll greet you with a smile and say, “Welcome Home.”
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, at Highland United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Weyant officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
