SEMINOLE — W.E. ‘Curly’ Maypole, 88, of Seminole, a retired oilfield worker, died Saturday, July 6, 2002, at his residence.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Andrews Old cemetery with the Masonic Lodge of Andrews officiating. Arrangements by Boyer Funeral Home of Seminole.
He was born in Helena, Okla., and moved to Seminole in 1971.

ODESSA - Archie Lee Taylor, 80, of Odessa, a retired employee of Yale E. Key Well Service, died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital.

He was born in Hendrix, Okla., and moved to Odessa in 1941. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Mary Joy Warner
ODESSA — Mary Joy Warner, 70, a church pianist, passed away Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002, at her home.
She was born on Jan. 15, 1932, in Odessa, Texas, to parents, Mary Frances (Courter) Brunson and Joy Virgil Brunson. She grew up in Odessa and graduated from Odessa High School in 1949. At OHS, she was a member of the Drill Squad, Latin Club, Bible Club and the National Honor Society. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Piano from Midwestern University in 1954. There, she was a member of Musicians Club, Omega Rho Alpha and Alpha Chi.
She has been a piano teacher and had played piano and organ for several local churches, most recently the Christian Science Church. She was a life-long member of the First United Methodist Church and was a member the Odessa Music Study Club.
During her lifetime, she took care of many children, which she always considered to be part of her own family. She became and remains their “honorary grandmother.” Everyone who knew her was touched by her loving, generous spirit. She will be lovingly remembered as a mother and grandmother who always had time for her children’s and grandchildren’s various activities.
She is survived by her son, Stuart Warner; and two daughters, Mary Massengill and Becky Hall, all of Odessa. She is also survived by three grandsons, Jeremy and Justin Dean, and Michael Atkins; and one granddaughter, Beth Atkins, all of Odessa. She is also survived by her two sisters, Doris Duncan of Gardendale and Lucille Bida of Arlington.
A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 415 N. Lee in Odessa at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 23, 2002. In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to your favorite charity.

William Donald Grissom
ODESSA — William Donald Grissom, infant son of Craig and Lisa Grissom, died Sept. 17, 2002. Will was born Sept. 16, 2002, at Odessa Regional Hospital.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jess Little officiating.
Will is survived by his parents, Craig and Lisa Grissom of Odessa; paternal grandparents, Betty Grissom of Odessa and the late Donald Grissom; maternal grandparents, Rhonda and Bull Cupp of Mandeville, La., and Mitchell Arnold and Val Abbott of Odessa; and uncle Kevin Grissom and wife Hope of Odessa.

Catherine Greening Ward
FRANKLIN, Tenn. — Catherine Greening Ward was called home to the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 2, 2002, at the age of 93.
Catherine was born on Easter Sunday, April 19, 1908, in Ferriday, La. to Mary Jones Greening and John Wesley Greening. She spent her early years in El Dorado, Ark., and graduated from Jones School and El Dorado Junior College.
She taught school one year, then married
Edward Ward of El Dorado. She and her husband moved to Texas in the early 40s and had lived in Crane, McCamey, Iraan, and for nearly 40 years, in Monahans.
Mrs. Ward was a member of Triune Baptist Church, Arrington, Tenn. She had made her home with her eldest daughter the past four years.
While in Monahans, Mrs. Ward was an active member of the First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School many years. She was also active in the Women’s Missionary Union.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Edward, her sister Mary, and brother John.
She was survived by her brother Philip Greening and step niece Raymelle Greening both of Little Rock, Ark.; daughters, Mrs. Catherine Cox (son-in-law Bill) of Thompson Station, Tenn., Ruth Johnson (son-in-law Ben) of Lone Star, Texas, Mary Cutrell (son-in-law Claude) of Daingerfield, Texas; sons, John Ward (daughter-in-law Sue) of Derby, Kan.; Philip Ward (daughter-in-law Susan) of Pooler, Georgia; grandchildren, Mrs. Cathy Jones of Thompson Station, Mrs. Carole Flansburg of Donelson, Tenn., Ben C. Johnson of Houston, Texas, Mrs. Glenda Swanson of Huntsville, Texas, Dr. John Ward Jr. of Charlotte, N.C., Mrs. Charlotte Whitney of Wichita, Kan., Douglas Cutrell of San Francisco, Calif., Edward Cutrell of Seattle, Wash., Clarissa Cutrell of Daingerfield, and Daniel Ward of Pooler, Ga.; and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be Monday, April 8, at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Monahans with the Rev. John Stone of Daingerfield and the Rev. William Cox of Thompson Station officiating.
Pallbearers are Ross Gann, Roger Goza, Jack Grant, Walt Roeber, Lathan Walker and Wallace Watson.
Interment will be at Monahans Municipal cemetery. Harkey Funeral Home, 210 S. Allen, Monahans, is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation with the family is Sunday, April 7, 2002 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Harkey Funeral Home.
M.E. “Sam” Huff
ODESSA — Services for M.E. “Sam” Huff, 81, are 10 a.m. Monday at the Lutheran Church of the Risen Lord with the Rev. James Otterness and Dick Brown officiating. He died Friday at Hospice House.
By all accounts, Sam was quite a guy. Mentor, good friend, devoted husband, family man, fisherman, raconteur. Sam was all these and more. He was born in Ranger, Texas, on November 14, 1920. He was a graduate of Oklaunion High School and a veteran of World War II.
While stationed in Cuba during World War II, he met his future bride, Sally. They were married
October 25, 1945. He and Sally moved to the West Texas area after the war, where he worked as an accountant in the oil field and raised his family. He was active in his community, an avid sports fan, a member of the Lutheran Church of the Risen Lord, Moose Lodge of Odessa and Odessa Downtown Lions Club and a dear friend to many.
Sam was preceded in death by his wife, Sally, on November 3, 1998; his parents, Matt and Hollis Huff; and his brother, Dean Huff. He is survived by his sons Joe Huff and wife Aloma Adams of Leander, Texas, Carl Huff and wife Terrie of Dallas, and Mike Huff and wife Lori of Kuwait City, Kuwait; daughter Debbie Huff Bailey of Spring, Texas; brothers, Bill Huff of Vernon, Texas, Glynn Huff of Wichita Falls and Lee Huff of Ellisville, Miss.; sisters, Faye Morgan of Midland and Mary Redman of Slidell, La.; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and long-term friends Bruce and Sherry Shearer and Bob and Suzanne Dickerson of Odessa.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hospice House of Odessa.
