In 1953, Eddie and her husband, the late Dennis “Doc” Rushing, moved to Odessa, where Doc continued to work in the oil patch until 1957, when he purchased the Pioneer Fence Company, which he ran with her assistance until his retirement in 1973.

Marie wishes to express her gratitude to her mother’s longtime caregiver, Eva, and to the entire staff at Hospice House for their loving care and support. The following words from an unknown author reflect our feelings at this time:
“Many times we laughed with you, a million times we cried. If love could have saved you, you never would have died.
It burdens our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone – for parts of us went with you the day God called you home.
He saw you getting tired, so he closed his arms around you. He knew you needed rest.
God’s garden must be beautiful, for he picks only the best.”
