WAXAHACHIE – Graveside services for Cecil R. Creed, 88 of Waxahachie, were held at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 15, 2001 at Waxahachie City Cemetery.
Born on Nov. 12, 1912 in Waxahachie, the son of John T. and Ruby (Childress) Creed, he passed away March 13, 2001 at his residence.
Preceded in death by his wife in 1987, parents, brother and four sisters; he is survived by two daughters Patricia McCulloch and Wanda Joslin both of Waxahachie; son Myles R. Creed and wife Antoinette of Parma, Ohio; two sister Lois Williams and husband Ollin of Ft. Worth and Virginia Baker and husband L.H. of Waxahachie; 21 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Wayne Boze Funeral Home in Waxahachie.
James Henry “Hoot” Farrar
June 4, 1917 – March 13, 2001
WAXAHACHIE – Funeral services for James Henry “Hoot” Farrar, 83, were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 15, 2001 in the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel with Bro. Walter Sanders officiating.
Born on June 4, 1917 in Henrietta, Okla., the son of Henry T. and Verda Jane (Johnson) Farrar, he passed away March 13, 2001 at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas.
Preceded in death by his parents, wife and sister Mildred Paris; he is survived by two sons Jim Farrar and wife Ellen of Weatherford and Jerry Ray Farrar and wife Della of Maypearl; brother Bob Farrar of Inola, Okla.; sister Juanita Lewis of Tulsa, Okla.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were James Allen, Chad Farrar, Johnny Farrar, Tobar Hensley, Jeff Hill and Jimmy Reavis.
Interment followed in the Maypearl Cemetery under the direction of Wayne Boze Funeral Home in Waxahachie.
Freddie Jay Richardson Graves
Sept. 9, 1914 – March 14, 2001
ALPINE – Graveside services for Freddie Jay Richardson Graves, of Alpine, were held at 4 p.m. at the Graves Cemetery in Rockett.
Born on Sept. 9, 1914 in Orange, the daughter of John Reddin and Medora Ann Burton Richardson, she passed away March 14, 2001 at the Ennis Care Center.
Preceded in death by her husband Robert Russell Graves Jr.; she is survived by a nephew and his wife Charley C. and Shirley Ann Jackson Graves of Rockett; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Pete and Kathryn Graves Clopton of Rockett; and two sisters-in-law Nell Graves Sawyer of Abilene and Virginia Graves Humphries of Rockett.
Memorials may be made to the Graves Cemetery in Rockett or the Rockett Christian Church.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Red Oak Funeral Home, Berdon Byrum.
J.A. “Judge” Gray

WAXAHACHIE – Graveside services for J.A. “Judge” Gray, 81, were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2001 at Sardis Cemetery with Rev. Dan Hitt officiating.
Born on April 3, 1919 in the Long Branch Community, the son of James Andrew Sr. and Maud (Byrum) Gray, he passed away March 17, 2001 at his residence.
Preceded in death by his parents; wife Jo Ann, sisters and brothers-in-law Vernon and Hazel Gray Cavender and W.M. “Bud” and Pauline Gray Holmes, brother-in-law Erbert West and nephew Wayne Holmes; he is survived by his daughter Diane Gray of Euless; sister Willie Eva West of Midlothian; niece Mary Elizabeth Cantrell of Ft. Worth; nephews Charles Cavender of Houston and Bobby Gray West of Midlothian; and special nieces Nancy Marks of Grandview and Jane Jordan of Waxahachie.
Pallbearers were his grand-nephews Gary Cantrell, Nick Jordan, Jeff Jordan, John West, Ken Marks and grand-nephew-in-law Greg Smith. Honorary pallbearers were nephew Bobby Gray West, nephews-in-law Buck Jordan and James Marks and longtime friend Melvin Loveless.
Memorials may be made to the Judge and Jo Ann Gray Scholarship Fund in memory of Judge and Jo Ann Gray, % Martha Cunningham, Waxahachie High School.
Shirley Jones

FLOWER MOUND – Funeral services for Shirley Jones, 94, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 12, 2001 in the Keever Chapel with Rev. Johnny Mansell and Rev. Dick Moody officiating.
Born on Dec. 29, 1906 in Scott County, Miss., the daughter of William S. and Mary Anna Latham Sprouse, she passed away March 10, 2001 at the Cross Timbers Care Center in Flower Mound.
Preceded in death by two daughters Annah Christine and Bobbie Nell; she is survived by her son H.D. “Bo” Jones of Tyler; three daughters Fontaine Robertson of Ennis, Jo Thompson of Dallas and Marie Sibley of Flower Mound; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Larry Jones, Mark Sibley, Jeff Sibley, Marcos Castillo, Eric Castillo and Mike Mayes. Honorary pallbearers were Chip Brown and Greg Thompson.
Interment followed in the Elm Branch Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary.
Nicholas Mendez Martinez

ROCKWALL – Funeral services for Nicholas Mendez Martinez, of Rockwall, were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 15, 2001 in the chapel of Waxahachie Funeral Home.
Born on Sept. 26, 1909 in Guanajunto, Mexico, he passed away March 13, 2001 in the Rockwall Nursing Center.
He is survived by several grandchildren, nieces and nephews and the ones who have been very helpful in his care John Rodriguiz of Garland, Trinidad Ponce and Marie Elodia Rodriguiz.
Interment followed in the Waxahachie City Cemetery under the direction of Waxahachie Funeral Home.
Arlis Garner Owens

WAXAHACHIE – Funeral services for Arlis Garner Owens, 77 of Waxahachie, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2001 in the Park Meadows Baptist Church with Pastors Joe Langley and James Beam officiating.
Born on March 17, 1924 in Hope, Ark., the son of Ben Walker and Susie Pearl Goodman Owens, he passed away March 17, 2001 at Renfro Healthcare Center.
Preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Amy Owens, three brothers Calvin, Luther and Jesse Foy Owens; he is survived by his wife of 55 years Dorothy Louise Byars Owens; children Joyce and Rudy Armstrong, Regina and Ronnie Thedford all of Waxahachie, Richard and Stacy Owens of Midlothian, Scott Owens of Addison, and Lee Ann Owens of Waxahachie; grandchildren Lance and Kim Armstrong, Travis and Kathy Armstrong, Hal and Rhonda Stanford, Melissa Thedford, Corey and Heidi Thedford, Kyle and Lyndsie Owens, Brad and Stacey Owens, Heather Owens and Billy and Philip Galt; 10 great-grandchildren Taylor and Trent Armstrong, Victoria Armstrong, Marshall and Holli Stanford, Erika, Courtney and Mitchell Clark and Ty and Hannah Thedford; brother and sister-in-law B.W. and Barbara Owens of Waxahachie; brother Jim Owens of Memphis, Tenn.; sisters Viola Rogers of Waxahachie, Martha Kelly of Waxahachie and Rose and Jim Sanford of Lobeville, Tenn.; and special cousins Robert and Bobby Howard.

Interment followed in the Oak Branch Cemetery under the direction of Boze-Mitchell Funeral Home in Waxahachie.
