Born on Aug. 27, 1903 in Delores Hidalgo, Guana Juato, Mexico, the daughter of Eucevio and Cevriana Gutierrez, she passed away Feb. 15, 2001 at her home.
Preceded in death by her husband Pedro Avila; she is survived by her son Alberto Avila of Houston; two daughters Rosia Avila of Mexico and Maria Lopez of Ennis; brother Trinidad Gutierrez of Mexico; two sisters Fransisca Gutierrez of Mexico and Luz Gutierrez; 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Rene Benavidez, Hermando Barcenas, Dionicio Lopez, Rogelio Lopez, Martin Guido, Gonzalo Lopez and Jose Padilla.
Interment followed in the St. Josephs Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary in Ennis.

CEDAR HILL – Funeral services for Paul Nicholas Lalla, 60 of Cedar Hill, were held at 12 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001 at Green Funeral Home with Father Raul Garza officiating.
Born on Aug. 1, 1940 in Chicago, Ill., the son of Paul and Sophie Malczan Lalla, he passed away Feb. 25, 2001 in Cedar Hill.
Preceded in death by his father; he is survived by his wife Patricia G. Lalla of Cedar Hill; his mother of Mauston, Wis.; daughters Nicole Lalla of Richardson and Alison Lalla of Atlanta, Ga.; son Curtis Paul Lalla of Galveston; and sister Rose Cabaj of Cedar Hill.
Pallbearers were Ben Gresham, Larry Gresham, Fred Torres, William M. Cabha, William S. Caba and David Lundeen.

ENNIS – Funeral services for Velma Redmond, 90 of Ennis, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001 in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Karen Cravens officiating and Rev. Glenn Jones assisting.
Born on Jan. 21, 1911 in Ft. Worth, the daughter of John B. and Velma Elmore Erisman, she passed away Feb. 18, 2001 at the IOOF Nursing Home in Ennis.
Preceded in death by her husband Dr. Harold E. Redmond and daughter Jeanne Redmond in 1978; she is survived by her daughter Rosemary Redmond of Ennis; and two sisters Betty Clark of Mississippi and Helen McDonnel of Milwaukee, Wis.
Pallbearers were R.E. Erisman III, R.E. Erisman IV, John Erisman, Kyle Rann and Phillip Shipp. Honorary pallbearers were J.C. McDonnel and Dr. Robert Shipp.
Interment followed in the Restever Mausoleum in Bryan at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, 2001 under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary in Ennis.
James R. Whitfill

He is survived by his wife Winnie of Ennis; son and wife Jimmy and Lisa Whitfill of Ennis; three daughters and sons-in-law Linda and Rex Waldrop, Susan and Ronnie Slovak and Cindy and Joe Bouldin all of Ennis; brother Windell Whitfill of Dallas; sister Helen Fowler of Alma; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Born on May 20, 1937 in Frost, the son of Shelby and Mary Rawlins Barnes, he passed away Feb. 19, 2001 at the Christus St. Joseph’s Hospital in Paris.
Preceded in death by his parents, and brother Donal Ray Barnes; he is survived by his wife Joanne Barnes of Paris; two daughters Tina Storti of Lake Dallas and Kristi England of Cedar Hill; son Bryan Barnes of Independence, Ky.; three brothers Jerry, Gene and Max Barnes and nine grandchildren.

Born on July 3, 1923 in Chicago, Ill., the son of Vincent M. and Anna Vanek Zaloudek Sr., he passed away Feb. 13, 2001 at his home.
He is survived by his two sisters Helene Valek of Ennis and Lillian A. Krippner of Dallas; and his brother-in-law and his wife Gene and Jan Burris of Ennis.
Pallbearers were Becket Grimmett, Myles Grimmett, David Goodwyn, Etienne Grimmett, Michael Doviak and Quinn Grimmett.
Interment followed in the Myrtle Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary in Ennis.

Preceded in death by his parents, son Tommy Phillips, brother Ernest Phillips and sister Ruby Phillips Parker; he is survived by his wife Mary M. Phillips of Ferris; daughter and son-in-law Deana Ransom and Jay of Meridan; sons and daughters-in-law Tony Ferguson and Valarie of Duncanville and Darrell Ferguson and Sherry of Forney; and sisters Billie Jo Voss of Ft. Worth and Wanda Prestridge of Mesquite; and brothers Gene Phillips of Hansford, Calif., Nolan Phillips of San Jose, Calif. and Steve Phillips of Fayetteville, Ark.
