Skeeter Woods

SANTA FE — Skeeter Woods, 67, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2004, after a battle with cancer at his residence, in SantaFe, Texas.

Skeeter was born October 2, 1936, in Beaumont, Texas to Daniel and Myrtle Woods. Skeeter was a member of Pine Drive Baptist Church, in Dickinson, Texas, as well as a member of the Masonic Lodge #1118, in Texas City.

Skeeter is preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Myrtle Woods of Beaumont.

Skeeter is survived by his wife, Lanita Woods; daughter, Tammy and James Wooten, Terry and Donnie Gilbert, and son, Danny Woods; grandchildren, James Ray Wooten, II, Christopher Leldon Wooten, Jon Kenneth Gullette, and Michael Ryan Gullette.

Visitation will be held Monday, January 26, 2004, from 5- 8 p.m., at Forest Park East Funeral Home, in League City. Funeral Services will be conducted by Pastor Ted A. Duck of Pine Drive Baptist Church, on Tuesday, January 27, 2004, at 12:30 p.m., at Forest Park East Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Forest Park East cemetery with Masonic gravesite services.

Pallbearers will be James Wooten II, Christopher Wooten, Ryan Gullette, Mike Bohn, Paul Bohn, Brent Lyle, and Timmy Harper.

The family would like to express a special thanks to our special angel, Lisa LeBlanc from the Hospice Care Team for her love and care.

Robert "Rob" Peralez, Jr.

Robert "Rob" Peralez, Jr., 34, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2004, at The University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 26, 2004, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Galveston, with Fr. John Paul Flajole, O.F.M., as Celebrant. Burial will follow services Monday at Calvary cemetery, also in Galveston. A Rosary Service will be held at 6:30 p.m., Sunday, January 25, 2004, in the Memorial Room of Broadway Funeral Home. Mr. Peralez’s family will be receiving friends for visitation at the funeral home Sunday evening after 5:00 p.m.

Rob was born on Galveston Island, November 29, 1969. He remained on the island all of his life, staying close to family and his island heritage. Rob dearly loved his family and held a very strong commitment in his heart for each and every one of his loving family members. He was a devoted husband and father, brother and friend to so many. In his past time, he enjoyed playing darts and dart tournaments. He will be so sadly missed.

Mr. Peralez is predeceased in death by his father, Robert Peralez, Sr. and his two grandmothers, Maria Peralez and Julia H. Isais. He leaves behind many wonderful memories with his loving family, wife, Tracie Tacquard, of Galveston; his parents, Lita and Andrew Longoria, Jr., of Galveston; and his only son, Joseph Robert Peralez, of Galveston. Also saddened by his loss are Rob’s sisters, Mary Castano and husband, Arthur, Veronica Garcia and husband, Lee and Rebecca Peralez, all of Galveston; his step-brothers, Andrew J. Longoria, of Killeen, Texas, Peter A. Longoria and wife, Rhoda, of Santa Fe, Texas and Gilbert A. Longoria, of Katy, Texas; his very loving aunts and uncles, numerous nieces and nephews, his two great-nieces, a host of other loving family and friends. He will forever be remembered in the hearts of his family and friends, always.

Pallbearers will Frank Peralez, Roland Peralez, Johnny Peralez, Arthur Castano, IV, Alex "Big Al" Garcia and Charlie Simpson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Arthur Castano, III and Lee Garcia, Jr.

Mary Jane Medlin Mills

Mary Jane Medlin Mills, 78, died Wednesday, January 21, 2004, at the Health Center at Fleet Landing Retirement Community, Atlantic Beach ,Florida, after a nine-year battle with Alzheimer's/Parkinson's complex.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 26, 2004, in the auditorium of Fleet Landing at 2:00 p.m. Private family interment will be held in the Oaklawn cemetery of Jacksonville, Florida.

Mary Jane was born August 29, 1925, in Muskegon, Michigan. She met her future husband, Gordon Mills, at an Inter Varsity Christian Fellowship group at the University of Michigan in 1946, and they were married June 13, 1947, in Ann Arbor Michigan. They have two sons, David (Julia) and John; and a daughter, Melinda Mills Bradshaw (John). They have four grandchildren, Lauren and Marlena Mills, and Jack and Kyle Bradshaw.

Mary Jane graduated from Muskegon Junior College, attended the University of Michigan for several years, and then completed her B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Houston with a major in History. Her special interests were in Greek and Roman history; also in the ancient histories of Mesopotamia, Egypt and the Biblical World. She was a member of the Archeological Institute of America. On four occasions she presented talks on ancient archeology and history at national meetings of the American Scientific Affiliation.

In 1980 and again in 1990, she went with tour groups to Israel, Egypt and Jordon. Throughout her life, Mary Jane was also very much interested in Genealogy, and did much research on both her own and her husband's ancestors. She was a charter member of the Galveston Genealogical Society and served two years as its president.

Mary Jane was much involved in the cultural life of Galveston, Texas where she lived from 1955 to 1998. She was a volunteer participant in Galveston's annual "Dickens on the Strand" celebrations, and in the Galveston Old Homes Tours. She was active in the Daughters of the Confederacy and in the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She conducted the DAR Good Citizen's Award for four years among six Galveston County High Schools. She was an active member of the Galveston Book Club and often presented book reviews for the membership. She was an active supporter of the Galveston Symphony Orchestra.

Mary Jane was active in Christian student groups at the University of Michigan. After moving to Galveston, she and her family joined the First Presbyterian Church of Galveston, where she taught an adult Bible Class for about thirty years. With her husband, she regularly attended and participated in annual statewide conferences of the Christian Medical Society.

After working as a housewife and mother for about twelve years, she began a new career teaching mathematics at the junior high and high school levels in Galveston. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.

Nancy Campbell Martin

GALVESTON - Nancy Campbell Martin, 75, passed away Saturday, January 24, 2004, at her residence. She was born on November 19, 1928, in Galveston, Texas. Mrs. Martin worked at the Titus Harris Clinic and UTMB for over twenty years. She was also a member of the Junior League.

She is preceded in death by her parents Archibald and Kate Campbell; husband Winston L. Martin, M.D.; brother Archibald R. Campbell, Jr.; sisters Katherine Campbell Oliver, Mary Lee Campbell Davis and Alice Campbell Gaughan; brother-in-laws Thomas M. Oliver, M.D. and Major James E. Gaughan (Ret.).

She is survived by her brother Chesley R. Campbell and his wife Louise; brother-in-law William H. Davis; sister-in-law Eugenia H. Campbell; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2004, at 2 p.m. at J. Levy & Bro. Funeral Home, with Father Ronald Pogue officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rosenberg Library, the Salvation Army or the charity of one's choice.

Esther Louise Fash Walters

FRIENDSWOOD - Esther Louise Fash Walters, formerly of Texas City, passed away January 25, 2004, five days short of her 94th birthday.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, January 27, 2004, at Forest Park East cemetery in Webster under the direction of Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City.

Mrs. Walters was born January 30, 1910, in Capron, Oklahoma, the youngest of four children of Joseph Tyler Fash and Joanna Frances McGregor. She graduated from Northwestern Normal School in Alva, Oklahoma, attended Northwestern Oklahoma Teacher’s College and graduated from West Texas State Teachers College in Canyon, Texas in 1952.

She married John Bruce Walters on June 23, 1929. In 1937, they moved to Texas where she taught school for 43 years in a number of Texas schools before retiring from Texas City ISD. They resided in Texas City for nearly 50 years. Mr. Walters died in 1992.

Mrs. Walters was a member of Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, Texas City Study Club, and First Presbyterian Church of Texas City. For the past two years she had been a resident of Friendship Haven in Friendswood.

She is survived by daughters Barbara Walters Hodges of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota and Janet Walters Guillot and husband Bubba of Friendswood, Texas; twelve grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Presbyterian Children’s Home, P.O. Box 100, Itasca, TX. 76055 or to A-Med Community Hospice, 8901 Emmett Lowry Expwy., Suite B, Texas City, TX 77591.

Betty Lois Allen

SANTA FE - Mrs. Betty Lois Allen, affectionately known as "Mama Allen", passed from this life Sunday morning, January 25, 2004, at her home.

Born March 3, 1924, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Mrs. Allen had been a resident of Santa Fe for eight years. She was a homemaker, member of the Lutheran faith and had worked as a spot welder in Mississippi during WWII. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, bowling, fishing and children.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Lois and Milton Halfin, II, of Santa Fe; step-daughter and son-in-law, June and Freddie Zlomke of Woodville; step-mother, Lillian Carr of Muskegon, Michagan; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles H. and Carol Barmore of Livingston, Edward and Libby Barmore of Kingsbury; grandchildren, Jonathan and Sarah Halfin and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Thursday, January 29, 2004, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Lynn officiating.

Friends may call from 5 - 8 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home, 10412 Highway 6, 925-3501.
