GALVESTON - The Rev. Marshall Jerome Boxley, 64, received his reward of eternal rest on Monday, January 26, 2004, at U.T.M.B. Hospital.
Rev. Boxley was born February 27, 1939, in Galveston to Haywood and Mildred Carter Boxley. He was a 1957 graduate of Central High School ands also attended the University of California-Berkley. He served twenty years of employment with UTMB in various departments while pursuing his music career. Formerly known by his peers as "Buck Wheat", he had an inspiring career as a musician, playing the guitar and singing for a locally famous group called "The Webbs", opening for many famous singers such as the O'Jays and Patti Labelle. The group was also known for it's singles; Steamboat, I can't take it no more and Question.
Marshall was baptized at an early age at the Mt Olive Baptist church under the leadership of the late Rev. M. C. Battle and was later ordained as a Deacon. When he received his call to deliver the Gospel, he moved his membership to the First Union Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. James A. Wrenn. He served as the pastor of the New Light Baptist Church in Dickinson, Texas, and later received the call to the pastorship of the Greater Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist Church where he served diligently and faithfully until his untimely death. He received many honors on his Christian journey, including be inducted into the Gospel Hall of Fame.
His love for children led Rev. Boxley to serve as President of the Galveston Youth Tackle Football for twenty years and he was the head coach of the Cowboys.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother Victoria Carter; father, Haywood Boxley; mother, Mildred Flenoy and grandson, Marquis Turner-Boxley.
Rev. Boxley leaves to cherish memories of his life, his wife of thirty-nine years, Evelyn Boxley; children Ladenia, Michael (Doris), Tonya and Latisha Boxley; his nephews whom he adopted as sons, Jimmie McClain and Damon Porter; his niece he adopted as a daughter, Tracy Perkins (Tracey); his adopted sons, Ernest Florence, Alexander Thomas, Craig Dwyer and Eric Hatcher; adopted daughters Nikita Henderson and Shelly Washington; brothers, Dylan Flenoy (Brenda), Morris Boxley (Mary) and Haywood Talib (Billie); sisters, Pamela Williams (David) and Ethel Chambers (Billy); two cousins in law who he called his sisters, Olivia McClain and Sandra Porter; two loving aunts, Leona Noah and Lois Porter; 8 grandchildren, Endia, Armani, Zoe and Jordan Boxley, Stannie and Wayne Jones, Trey and Trent Perkins; one great granddaughter Anasia Jones; his Gr. Mt Gilead Church Family, the Clergy family, other relative and friends.
Visitation will be held from 3-6p.m. at E R Johnson Family Mortuary on Friday, January 30, 2004,with a wake service from 7-8p.m. at the First Union Baptist church (11th& Ave. K).
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 31, 2004, at the First Union Baptist Church with the Rev. David L. Everson, Sr., officiating. He will be laid to rest at the Lakeview cemetery in Galveston.

SANTA FE - Susie Gail Scheumack, 56, of Santa Fe passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2004, at Mainland Center Hospital in Texas City. She was born March 12, 1947, in Pflugerville, Texas and had lived in Santa Fe since 1971, formerly of Texas City. Susie was a clerk at American National Insurance Company, a member of the First Assembly of God Church of Arcadia, Texas.
Survivors include two daughters Vicki Guice of Alvin and Shawne Gonzales of Destin, Florida; son and daughter-in-law Danny and Wendi Scheumack of Santa Fe; three sisters Loretta Sparks, Christine Walker and Sharon Tanner; one brother John Israel; six grandchildren Andrea, Jessica, Bryan, Sydney, Mason and Daniel.
A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday January 30, 2004, at the Crowder Funeral Home, FM 517 and FM 646 in Dickinson, Texas. Funeral Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday January 31, 2004, at First Assembly of God Arcadia, 4031 Jackson St, Santa Fe, Texas, with Pastor Paul Vincent officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be Tim Walker, Tom Walker, Ted Walker, Travis Walker, Marty Israel, Troy Israel, Seth Tanner, Jody Herrington, Steve Karamitsos and Dale Spencer.

Margaret "Patt" La France
Patt La France passed away on January 28, 2004, lovingly surrounded by her kids, sisters and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Dodie La France and her brother, Kookie La France.
Those who will especially miss her are her son, Donald "Bubba" Cooper and wife Jodie, of Bayou Vista; daughters, Karen and husband Vernon Smith, of La Marque, Rhonda Cooper of Texas City, Tanyia Chuites and fiancee, Kevin Johnson of Houston, and Martha and husband, Gilbert Pena, of Dickinson. Her kids are especially grateful to her sisters who lovingly tended her, Sallye McPeters of Bacliff, and Martha "Tutti" Foster of Texas City, and her best friend for 56.5 years, Mabel Ann Carlton of Santa Fe. She will also be missed by her two granddaughters, Kerrie Cantu and Shelby Pena; and seven grandsons, Isaiah and Jared Pena, Anthony and Aaron Cooper, Kaleb and Dillon Smith, and Sgt. Robert Loyd-U.S. Army, Baghdad, Iraq. There are also numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and other family members whom she loved dearly.
Patt was born on November 23, 1942, in Galveston and lived most of her life on Gulf Coast though spent several years in East Texas. She graduated from Hitchcock High School in 1960, had many hobbies and interests but was happiest spending time with family and friends eating crabs, cooking gumbo or just being together doing nothing.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday January 30, 2004, at the funeral home. Services will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2004, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of the James Crowder Funeral Home of La Marque, with Reverend Leo Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock, Texas.
Pallbearers are Vernon Smith, Gilbert Pena, Kevin Johnson, Jeff Wright, Wayne Howard and Aaron Cooper, Elmo "Bubba" Cruse, and Tommy Turner. Honorary pallbearers are Sgt. Robert Loyd and Cpl. Cliff Foster-USMC.

WIMBERLEY, TEXAS - John Joseph Commiato, a resident of Wimberley, Texas, born February 20, 1930, in Galveston, passed away January 28, 2004, in Austin, Texas. He was the second- generation Italian-American son of Mary Menotti and Frank Commiato, both deceased.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn M. (Priske); three children, Larry, Debra Moro of Dickinson, Texas and Toni Misuraca of Phoenix, Arizona; and three stepchildren, Gary L. Considine of Fontana, California, Douglas J. Considine of League City, Texas, and Kelli Jo Considine of Houston, Texas; and eighteen grandchildren. He has two brothers, Frank Jr. of Kerens, Texas and Pete N. of Long Branch, Texas; and sister, Rosalie M. Kelsey of Houston, Texas and many nieces and nephews.
John joined the U. S. Navy in 1950, and served four tours with the air and shore battery on the destroyer USS Rowan DD782, until October 1954, in the Korean War as Petty Officer 2nd Class in charge of radio and all communications. He worked for Monsanto Chemical Co. and became an LUTC Graduate Sales Manager with Prudential Insurance Company. He graduated from Dickinson High School in 1948, and attended Sam Houston State and the University of Houston.
John was a member of St. Mary's Church and served on the Board of Directors for the Chamber of Commerce, was a member of Life Underwriters, Optimist Club, Catholic Youth Organization, Knights of Columbus and a volunteer at the Holiday Retreat House in Dickinson, Texas. He started a wood- carving group with friends in Wimberley and was a member of the National Carvers Association. His beautiful works have been sold as well as displayed in the homes of family and friends.

Marie Kovacevich Tyler
TEXAS CITY - Marie Kovacevich Tyler, 80, passed away Thursday, January 29, 2004, at Columbia Mainland Center Hospital, Texas City. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, January 31, 2004, at St. Constantine & Helen Serbian Orthodox Church at 4109 Avenue L, Galveston, with Fr. Srdjan Veselinovich, officiating. Burial will follow services Saturday at the Serbian Orthodox cemetery, also in Galveston. A Pomen service will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, January 30, 2004, in the Memorial Room of Broadway Funeral Home, Galveston. Ms. Tyler’s family will be receiving friends for visitation at the funeral home Friday evening after 5 p.m.
Marie was born on Galveston Island March 26, 1923. Most all of her life, however, she has been a resident of Texas City, Texas. She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister and she will be deeply missed by those that knew her and loved her.
Ms. Tyler is predeceased in death by her beloved parents, Blagoje and Mary Kovacevich, her mother, Mary J. Kovacevich, and also two of her sisters, Ethel Mae Kovacevich and Helen Kovacevich. She leaves behind many loving memories with her children, Judy Washington and husband, Ricky of Texas City, Mary Susan Beckham and husband, Ken of Cedar Park, Texas, Raymond Allen Tyler, Jr. and wife, Lynette of Texas City, Michael David Tyler and wife, Kathy also of Texas City and Mark Daniel Tyler and wife, Belinda of Houston, Texas. Sharing also in her loss are Marie’s five loving grandchildren, Courtney Washington, Joshua Washington, Michael Tyler, Jr., Raymond Allen Tyler, III and Morgan Tyler and one great-grandchild, Shiloh Tyler. Saddened, too, are Marie’s sisters, Angelene Brannen, Mildred Hollon and husband, Forrest and Annace Stasny, all of Galveston, her four brothers, Weldon Kovacevich, Sr. and wife, Johanna of Galveston, George Kovacevich of Texas City, Blago Kovacevich and wife, Ginger of Marquez, Texas and Nicholas Kovacevich, Sr. also of Marquez, numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, a host of other loving family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Ms. Tyler’s sons, Raymond Allen Tyler, Jr., Michael David Tyler and Mark Daniel Tyler, her grandsons, Joshua Washington and Michael Tyler, Jr., her two sons-in-law, Rickey Washington and Ken Beckham and also her brother-in-law, Forrest Hollon. Honorary pallbearer will be her grandson Raymond Allen Tyler, III.

FRIENDSWOOD - June Ellisor went to be with the Lord Jesus on January 28, 2004.
She was preceded in death by father, P.C. Simmons, mother, Cara Mae McNeil Simmons and sisters, Doris and Eleanor. Her husband of 54 years, John A. Ellisor, died on September 24, 1994.
Born in Hammond, Texas, on June 4, 1916, June grew up in Mexia and later attended Texas Wesleyan College in Fort Worth, where she earned a teaching degree. She moved to Friendswood in 1940 where she began her teaching career and met her husband, who was also an educator. While her husband served in the Pacific in WWII, she worked in Ft. Worth doing drafting to help the war effort. During his service years, the couple lived for brief periods in Georgia and California. After the war, they returned to Texas and she resumed teaching and earned a master's degree at the University of Houston. After Friendswood, she taught in La Marque, League City, Clear Creek and Victoria, where she retired in 1983. June was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International for key women educators. She returned to Friendswood in 1996, where she was an active member of First Baptist Church.
She is survived by son, John Ellisor, Jr and wife Deanna; daughter, Karen Heis and husband Jim; grandchildren, Matt Drake and fiancé Anna Charles, Cara Drake, Mary Weatherall and husband Rollin, Amy Ellisor, Lauren Heis, Brian Heis; great grandchildren, Josh and Ashley McClain.
June was known as "Honey" by her family and closest friends. After being diagnosed with cancer in the summer of 2003, she was faithfully cared for by Mary Garza and later by Sylvia Garza and American Hospice. A service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2004, at 11 a.m., at the First Baptist Church of Friendswood.
