Alfred Robert Goerlich
Alfred Robert Goerlich, 87, passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2004. Born January 17, 1917, in Galveston, Texas, Mr. Goerlich proudly served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army and was retired after 32 years from the U.S. Postal Service in Galveston. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Bishop Odin 2917, Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree Msgr. George A. Wilhelm 1094, and S.P.J.S.T Lodge 88.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 27 years, Zelie Darras Goerlich. He is survived by his second wife of 31 years, Dolores Bielamowicz Goerlich of Houston; son, Robert Goerlich and wife Ellen of Texas City; 2 grandchildren, Candace Goerlich and fiancé’ Mark Thomas, Christopher Goerlich and wife Mari, all of Austin; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5 – 9 p.m. on Thursday, October 14, 2004, at Pat H. Foley Funeral Home with a Vigil Service at 7 p.m. and Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 15, 2004, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 3600 Brinkman, with Rev. Msgr. James B. Anderson, S.T.D. celebrant. The Rite of Committal will follow in the Garden of Gethsemane, Forest Park Lawndale cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Dominican Sisters, St. Dominic Villa Retirement Fund, 6504 Almeda, Houston, TX., 77021.

HITCHCOCK — Hazel M. Boone, 85, passed away on Monday, October 11, 2004, in Alvin, Texas. She was born August 5, 1919, in Berwick, Louisiana, and was a longtime resident of Hitchcock, Texas.
Mrs. Boone was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas F. Boone and brother, Roland Wolter.
Survivors include two daughters, Judy Bird of Santa Fe, Texas and Cindy Finn and husband, Tim of Texas City; two sons, Douglas Boone and wife, Joan of Freeport, Texas and Mike Boone and wife, Kay of Alvin, Texas; and two sister-in-laws, Dorothy Wolter and Verna Boone. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, Kelly Hanks, Doug Boone II, Staci Dahl, Becky Salas, Roy Bolton, Erin Bolton, Tiger Boone, Rogan Finn, Baily Finn and Riley Finn, six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 14, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Hitchcock, Texas. Interment will follow services at Galveston Memorial Park cemetery in Hitchock, Texas. A visitation will be on Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Crowder Funeral Home in Dickinson, Texas.
Serving as pallbearers will be Tim Finn, Doug Boone II, Jeff Dahl, Tiger Boone, Roy Bolton and Isidro Salas.

GALVESTON — Frank G. Gutierrez, 77, passed away Sunday, October 10, 2004, at Christus St. John’s Hospital in Webster, Texas. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, October 14, 2004, at St. Mary’s Cathedral Basilica, in Galveston, with Fr. John LaBauve, S.V.D., Pastor, as Celebrant. Burial will follow services Thursday at Calvary cemetery, also in Galveston. A Rosary service will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, October 13, 2004, in the Memorial Room of Broadway Funeral Home, Galveston, recited by Fr. Gerald Lewis, S.V.D., also of St. Mary’s Cathedral Basilica and The University of Texas Medical Branch. Mr. Gutierrez’s family will be receiving friends for visitation at the funeral home Wednesday evening after 5 p.m.
Mr. Gutierrez was born here on Galveston Island March 25, 1927, where he remained as a lifelong resident. Growing up on the island, he became quite familiar with foreign and containerized shipping and for more than 25 years, was a merchant marine traveling through many ports of call. In his spare time, Mr. Gutierrez enjoyed all sports and as an avid sports fan, would enjoy a good baseball or football game whenever he could. He enjoyed the company of his many friends, talking about sports, the games they had watched or simply visiting over a good cup of coffee. He was a kind and good brother and uncle, and friend to many, and he will be sadly missed.
Mr. Gutierrez is preceded in death by his parents, Fabian Gutierrez, Sr., and wife Elisa Gonzales Gutierrez. He leaves behind many fond memories with his loving family, sisters, Margaret Rodriguez of Galveston, Norma Reyna of La Marque, Texas and Vera Gutierrez and husband, Joe of Galveston, Texas; and his two brothers, Fabian Gutierrez, Jr. of Galveston, Texas and Jesse Gutierrez and wife, Peggy of La Marque, Texas. Sharing in his loss are Mr. Gutierrez’s loving nieces and nephews, Christine Henry, Cindy Muraca, Diana Chide (Kenneth), Elizabeth Bennett (Jack, Jr.), Orlando Gutierrez, Johnny Gutierrez (Lynette), Gary Gutierrez (Lisa), Charles Gutierrez, Stephen Gutierrez, Olga Perez, Lorraine Narvez, George Reyna, Jr., Robert Reyna, Ralph Reyna, Annette Garza, Rosemary Mossavi, Jeannette Sanchez and Benjamin Reyna, a host of other loving family and friends.

GALVESTON — Jewel Collopy, 84, of Galveston, passed away Monday, October 11, 2004, at Cornerstone Hospital in Webster.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Thursday, October 14, 2004, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home with Father Gerald Lewis, SVD, officiating. Burial will follow at Grace Memorial Park in Alta Loma.
The family will receive visitors from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday, October 13, 2004, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home.
Jewel was born November 23, 1919, in Lometa, Texas. She was a resident of Galveston since 1938, and was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Emma Reed; one brother; and three sisters.
Jewel is survived by her husband of 66 years, Leo Collopy, of Galveston; daughters, Michele Jourdan and Janice Carothers, both of Galveston; son, Michael Collopy and wife, Betty, of Texas City; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Sean Hix, John Mansker, James Mansker, Robert Rodriguez, Leslie Summerville, and Richard Summerville.

TEXAS CITY — Kenny Smith, 50, passed away Monday, October 11, 2004, in Texas City, Texas. Mr. Smith was born on April 27, 1954, in Texas City, Texas, to William and Audrey Smith. He was a resident of Texas City for over 14 years, and formerly of La Marque. He was an employee of BP Amoco in Texas City; a member of Paul's Union Church in La Marque; and a member of PACE local union. He was preceded in death by his mother, Audrey.
Mr. Smith is survived by his father, William Smith of Texas City, Texas; his wife, Vicki Smith of Texas City, Texas; his daughter, Carli Davis Smith of Texas City, Texas; his son, Taylor Wayne Smith of Texas City, Texas; his granddaughter, Makayla Jewel Smith; his sister, Karen Smith of Houston, Texas; and his brother, William "Bubba" Smith III of Texas City, Texas.
A visitation for family and friends will be Thursday, October 14, 2004, at 4 p.m., at the James Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque. A service will follow at 6 p.m., at the funeral home, with the Rev. Johnny Angel officiating.

WEBSTER — Aurora G. Salinas, 80, passed away, October 10, 2004 at Manor Care Center in Webster, Texas. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, October 13, 2004, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Hitchcock, Texas with Fr. John Kappe, Pastor, as Celebrant. Burial will follow services Wednesday at Grace Memorial Park cemetery in Santa Fe, Texas. A Rosary service will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, October 12, 2004, in the Memorial Room of Broadway Funeral Home, Galveston. Ms. Salinas’ family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening after 5 p.m.
Aurora was born January 16, 1924, in Wharton, Texas, however, she has been a lifelong resident of Galveston county most all of her life. She was the sole proprietor, for more then 35 years, of "The Tropical Grill". Many will remember her friendly hospitality through business acquaintances and friendships shared. She was a caring individual, a person who dedicated herself to hard work and long hours, because she knew that people would be able to enjoy themselves because of it. Perhaps one of Aurora’s greatest enjoyments was being able to help those in need. In spare time when away from her work, Aurora would enjoy cooking and preparing old family recipes for her children to enjoy. These memories of favorite recipes she leaves behind for her family to share and to enjoy and more importantly, to remember the good times of her life with them. Her tremendous generosity and unselfish ways were but just a few of the many traits that many will be remember her by. She enjoyed people and made many loving and lasting friendships because of her kind and thoughtful ways. She will be sadly missed by all those that knew her and loved her.
Aurora is preceded in death by her husband, Juan Gonzales, her sister, Lupe DeLaCruz and also one of her grandchildren, Chrissy Karamitsos Reyes. She leaves behind many loving memories with her family, daughter, Margaret Karamitsos and husband, Steve Karamitsos, Sr. of Santa Fe, Texas; and son, Lawrence Hernandez, Sr. and wife, Nellene Hernandez of Texas City, Texas. Sharing in her loss, too, are Aurora’s seven loving grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; her sister, Rosemary Sharp of Texas City, Texas; brother, Jesse Salinas, Jr. and wife, Irma of Houston, Texas, numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, a host of other loving relatives and many wonderful and loving friends.
Pallbearers will be Steve Karamitsos, Jr., Joe Henry Karamitsos, R.C. DeLaCruz, Jr., Ray DeLaCruz, Lawrence Hernandez, Jr. and Larry Hernandez. Honorary Pallbearers will be BeBe Nelson, Felix Bergara, Frank Gonzales and Jesse Salinas, III.
