ANGLETON, TEXAS — Funeral services for Booker T. Brookins Sr., 92, of Angleton Texas, will be Thursday, September 30, 2004, at 11 a.m. at First Missionary Baptist Church in Angleton, Texas with Rev. G. R. Holland officiating. Burial will follow in Knights & Daughters cemetery in Rosharon, Texas.
He passed away Saturday September 25, 2004, at Angleton/Danbury Medical Center in Angleton, Texas. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 29, 2004, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Gardner Funeral Chapel and awake service from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m at First Missionary Baptist Church in Angleton, Texas.
He leaves to cherish his memories two daughters, Ruth Helen Antoine (Edward) of Galveston, Texas, and Dorothy Harris (Freddie) of West Columbia, Texas; one granddaughter, Patricia Millage of Angleton, Texas; one great grandson, Horceio Brookins (Valarie) of Angleton, Texas; one brother, Finis Brookins of San Antonio, Texas; one god-daughter Evelyn Thomas of Angleton, Texas; a compassionate friend Lovie Willis of Angleton, Texas; eight grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Robert Lee Dobbins, Sr.
LA MARQUE — Robert Lee Dobbins, Sr. succumbed to a lengthy illness on September 22, 2004. Mr. Dobbins was born October 17, 1926, in LaGrange, Texas to the late Essie Dobbins, Sr. and Blanchie Mae McLaughlin Dobbins.
Mr. Dobbins was a loving father, husband, successful business owner, avid hunter, cook and church member. He was also a veteran of the Unites States Army.
Mr. Dobbins is lovingly remembered by his surviving family members which includes his wife, Mrs. Willie B. Dobbins of La Marque and children, his devoted daughter, Franza Semien of La Marque, her husband and children, Paul Semien, Jr., Ashley and Cameron Semien; sons, Kirk L. Dobbins, Esq. of Baltimore, Maryland and Robert Lee Dobbins, Jr. of Denver, Colorado and his wife and children, Luv Simpson Dobbins, Christopher J. Dobbins and Nicholas Dobbins. Mr. Dobbins is also lovingly remembered by his sisters, James Anna Phillips, Dorothy Dobbins, Annie Dobbins, Vivian Harper and husband, Pat and Edna Baltimore and husband, Ray; nieces, nephews, and numerous other family members and friends.
Mr. Dobbins is preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Freda Lynette Dobbins and four brothers, Essie Dobbins, Jr., Earl Dobbins, Ervin Dobbins, Floyd Dobbins and a sister, Catherine Dobbins Holmes.
Visitation will begin after 3 p.m. Wednesday, September 29, 2004, followed by a wake from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be 12 p.m. Thursday, September 30, 2004. Both services will be held at Mainland Funeral Home in La Marque. Burial will follow at Rising Star cemetery in La Marque.

SANTA FE — Mrs. Beatrice Smith passed from this life Saturday, September 25, 2004, in Texas City.
Born February 7, 1914, in Alto, Mrs. Smith had been a longtime resident of Hitchcock and then lived in Livingston for 25 years till her move to Santa Fe in 1998. She was a dedicated housewife and mother and member of First United Pentecostal Church of Santa Fe.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Birdie Stanley and brothers, Everett Stanley and Porter Stanley.
Survivors include her husband of over 58 years, Osa D. Smith, of Santa Fe; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Fayerene Smith, of Santa Fe; brothers, Sheryll Stanley and wife, Betty, of Tyler, Reverend Elmer Stanley and wife, Mary, of Livingston; sisters, Modell Gilbert, of Conroe, Ruby Faye Jordan and husband, Howard, of Dallas; grandchildren, Gary Kyle Smith, Belinda K. Smith, Randi L. Eaton and husband, Ronald and great-grandson, Colton Eaton.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 28, 2004, at Charity Tabernacle Pentecostals of Livingston Church with Dr. Clark E. Lott officiating. Interment will follow at 4 p.m. at Pilgrim cemetery in Elkhart, Texas, under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home.
Casketbearers will be Mrs. Randi Eaton, Mr. Johnny Greenough, Mr. Joe Harris, Mr. Phillip Houlton, Ms. Belinda Smith and Mr. Gary Kyle Smith.

Josephine "Jody" Mata
Josephine was born in Galveston, Texas to Anastasia and Jose Alvarez. She died at home on September 24, 2004, surrounded by her family.
Jody married
Manuel Mata, Sr. on February 1, 1937, in Galveston, Texas and they were blessed to celebrate 54 years of marriage. They became the parents of three children, Gloria, Rosalie and Manuel, Jr.
For many years Jody worked at American National Insurance Company. After her retirement she often recalled her years there and her many friends and co-workers with great fondness.
Jody relished life and loved to spend holidays with family and friends and enjoyed decorating her home for each holiday, most especially at Christmas. She also loved to travel and dance. Jody was a member of the Shrine of the True Cross, in Dickinson, Texas.
Her husband, Manuel, who died August 21, 1991, preceded Jody in death. She is survived by her daughters, Gloria Mata Pennington, of Austin, Texas, Rosalie Mata, of Galveston, Texas and son, Manuel Mata, Jr. and wife, Judy, of Texas City, Texas. Sharing in her loss, also, are Jody’s grandchildren, grandsons, Dr. Raul Cruz and wife, Dena, of Orinda, California, Ron Cruz and wife, Caroline, of Alpharetta, Georgia, Wayne Maxwell and wife, Lisa, of Texas City, Texas, Chris Mata, of Texas City and Clark Pennington, of Austin, Texas; granddaughters, Lisa Anne Pennington, of San Antonio, Texas and Michele Mata Ayala and husband, Lee, of Bayou Vista, Texas; great-granddaughters, Christine Pennington and Diane Pennington, of Austin, Texas, Alexandra Cruz and Kelly Rose Cruz, of Alpharetta, Georgia, Karina Cruz, Rosalie Cruz and Conner Cruz, of Orinda, California and 1 great-grandson, Aaron Maxwell, of Texas City, Texas. Also saddened by her passing is Jody’s brother, Florencio Alvarez and sister, Frances Alvarez, of Galveston, Texas; sisters-in-law, Aurora Mata and Rebeca Flores, of Galveston, Texas and special friend, Lee Napoli, of Dickinson, Texas.
A Chapel Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 28, 2004, in the Memorial Room of Broadway Funeral Home, Galveston. Burial will follow services Tuesday at Calvary cemetery, also in Galveston. A Rosary Service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Monday, September 27, 2004, also in the Memorial Room of Broadway Funeral Home. Jody’s family will be receiving friends for visitation at the funeral home, Monday evening after 5:00 p.m.
Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Dr. Raul Cruz, Ron Cruz, Clark Pennington, Wayne Maxwell, Chris Mata and great-grandson, Aaron Maxwell. Honorary Pallbearers will be granddaughters, Lisa Anne Pennington and Michele Mata Ayala.

Mildred Estelle Porta, 92, went to her final resting place on Saturday, September 25, 2004, at Green Acres Nursing Home in Baytown, Texas.
She was born on March 14, 1912, in Houston, to James and Pearl O'Connor.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 28th, 2004, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home with Father John Bok O.F.M. officiating. Entombment will follow at Galveston Memorial Park Mausoleum, in Hitchcock.
Visitation with family and friends will be from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., Monday, September 27th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home.
Mildred was a resident of Hitchcock, Texas for 46 years and a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. She was a member of the Sons of Hermann Lodge, in Galveston, the Galveston Elks Ladies Auxillary #126, and the Ladies Auxillary of the Knights of Columbus, in La Marque. Mildred was a retired bookkeeper for L&L Cigar Co., of Galveston.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norris Louis Porta; brother, Lewis J. Lock; son-in-law, Gregory Yaw; and grandson, Donald Barnes.
Mildred is survived by 4 daughters, Norma Kling and husband, Nolan, of Louisiana, Ina Porta, of Pasadena, Texas, Catherine Yaw, of Baytown, Texas, and Sharon Edmundson, of Galveston, Texas; 12 grandchildren, Juanita King, Letha McCraney, Nolan Kling, Stacy Guitreau, Russell Barnes, James Barnes, Jerry Barnes, Steven Barnes, Melissa Carpenter, Norris Edmundson, Patrick Edmundson, John Braud; 16 beloved great and 5 great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Willie Lee Vinson, Jr.
Willie Lee Vinson, Jr., age 58, of Pearland, Texas, passed away on Sunday, September 26, 2004, in Pearland, Texas. He was born on March 12, 1946, to Willie and Nellie Vinson, in Dallas, Texas. He was also a member of the Painters Union in Texas City.
Willie is survived by his daughter, Kim Vaughn and her husband, Bruce and his granddaughter, Amanda Vaughn.
A visitation service will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, September 28, 2004, at Crowder Funeral Home, in Dickinson, Texas. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, September 29, 2004, at Crowder Funeral Home Chapel in Dickinson,Texas with Reverend Campbell officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet cemetery in Dickinson, Texas.
