GALVESTON - Letha Howard Franklin, 75, left her earthly home and entered her eternal dwelling place on Thursday, September 23, 2004 at UTMB in Galveston, Texas.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, September 26, 2004 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Wynn Funeral Home, 602-32nd street, Galveston, Texas; followed by a wake from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Shiloh AME Church, 1310 29th Street, Galveston, Texas.
The homegoing celebration will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, September 27, 2004, at Shiloh AME Church, with the Rev. W.L. Brown, officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview cemetery, Galveston, Texas.
Letha was born June 14, 1929, in Old Washington County to Ed and Luella Howard. She attended public school in Brenham, Texas. Letha was a member of Soul Chapel AME Church. She later moved to Galveston and joined Shiloh AME Church and served faithfully on the usher board until her health failed. Ms. Franklin retired form GISD after many years of service.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Luella Howard; husband, Ray Franklin, Sr.; grandsons, Derrick Brown and Robert Earls Harris; sister, Eddie B. Hill; brothers: Rev. Justin P. Howard, Raymond Howard, Floyd Howard, and Haymand Howard.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her children: Cecilia Williams (Willie), Ray Franklin, Jr.,(Charlett), Lionell Franklin, Barbara Brown, Clifford Albert Franklin, Kathy Franklin (Leroy), Dale Wayne Franklin, James Richard Franklin, Doris Franklin-Ballard, Joyce Douglas (Alfred), and Cheronda Lacy; her sisters: Rev. Johnny M. Washington and Lillie M. Franklin (Herbert); sisters-in-law: Emma Howard, Walter Dale Howard, Mammie Howard, and Rev. Emma Howard; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Eunice Belle Medcalf
Eunice Belle Medcalf, 92, of Hiawatha, died Saturday morning, September 18, 2004, at the Maple Heights Nursing Home.
She was born June 15, 1912, the daughter of Dr. Harry W. and Lydia E. Stoffer Lukens in Highland, Kansas. She graduated high school with the class of 1930 in Dickinson, Texas. She was a 1934 graduate of Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, and she received her Master’s from the University of Colorado in Greeley, Colorado in 1940. She taught school in Dickinson for 10 years before moving to Washington D.C. in 1945, for clerical work. She then taught first grade in La Marque, before retiring in 1974.
Eunice Belle married
John R. Medcalf in 1947, in Dickinson. They made their home in Hiawatha in 1975. He preceded her in death in 1984.
She was a member of the St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Falls City, Nebraska. Eunice Belle loved going to auctions to purchase antiques and traveling with her late husband.
Memorial services will be held in Dickinson at a later date. Chapel Oaks Funeral Home of Hiawatha was in charge of local arrangements. Memorials are suggested to the Brown County Historical Society and may be sent in care of the funeral home, 124 S. 7th St., Hiawatha, KS 66434.

LIVE OAK, TEXAS — Josephine "Jo" Trinity Kestler, 73, passed away in Live Oak, Texas on Monday, September 20, 2004. She was born to Augustin Emily (Brochet) and Vincent William Di Bella, Sr. on August 12, 1931, and later married
Donald Thomas Joseph Kestler, Sr. on April 22, 1950, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Galveston. Mrs. Kestler retired as Supervisor of Accounts Payable at the Marine Corp. Exchange at Camp Pendleton, California on April 1, 1985.
She was predeceased by her parents and brother, Vincent William Di Bella, Jr. Survivors include her husband, MSGT Donald T.J. Kestler, Sr., USMC Retired, of Garden Ridge, Texas; son, Donald Thomas Kestler, Jr. and wife Delores Christine Bellflower of League City; grandsons, Aaron Thomas Kestler of Minot, North Dakota and Donald Joseph Kestler of League City.
A rosary will be recited on Wednesday, September 22, 2004, at 7 p.m. at the Schertz Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Selma on Thursday, September 23, 2004, at 9:30 a.m. with Father Conor McGrath as Celebrant. Graveside services and interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National cemetery, Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
In lieu of flowers family wishes memorials be given to the American Cancer Society or to the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are with Schertz Funeral Home.

ALVIN — Mrs. Patricia Ann King passed from this life Monday, September 20, 2004, in Alvin.
Born May 6, 1926, in Torrance, California, Mrs. King was a resident of Alvin for 4 years, previously of the Galveston County area and loved animals.
preceded in death by her husband, William H. King and sons, James Kovacevich and Richard Kovacevich; survivors include her sons, Buck Freeman and wife, April of League City, Bob Weaver of Alvin; 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted 10 a.m. Thursday, September 23, 2004, at Grace Memorial Park cemetery with the Reverend Sandra Smith officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home.

LA MARQUE — Alyssa Elyse Wilson, born on June 28, 2004, in Texas City, went to be with the Lord on September 18, 2004.
Alyssa is survived by her parents Jon Wilson and Mandy Sanford; sister Sierra Sanford; grandparents Joe and Leticia Wilson, George Sanford, Jr., and Dorace Bedard; great grandparents Rosie Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. Pedro Perez, Jean Sanford, and Sue Bedard; uncles and aunts Joe and Brandee Wilson, James Wilson, Jim and Tiffany Lester, Buddy Sanford, and Sean Sanford; and many other family and friends who loved her dearly. Alyssa was preceded in death by her uncle, Jared Sanford.
Serving as pallbearers are Scott Comeaux, Todd Hernandez, David Brinkley, Jim Lester, James Wilson, and Joe Wilson.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, September 22, 2004, at Carnes Funeral Home in Texas City. Burial will follow at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock. The family will receive visitors 5 p.m. - 8 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.

LEAGUE CITY - Mary Dee Dudley from League City passed away on September 17, 2004.
She is survived by her husband J.L. Dudley; sister Lucille Dudley and brother Joseph Vail; children Allana Dee Wright, Jay Alan Dudley, Mary Delores Cornwall, seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
Services will be held September 21, 2004, at 10 a.m. at Forest Park East Funeral Home in Webster, Texas.
Renato Domenico Pietra D'Ascenzo
TEXAS CITY — Renato Domenico Pietra D'Ascenzo, known by all as Nito, 87, went home to His Lord on Sunday, September 19, 2004. Born in Marfa, Texas on his mother's birthday, April 26, 1917, he was the eldest son of Guerino D'Ascenzo, an Italian immigrant from Luca, Italy, and Jessita Pena of Redford, Texas. He spent his childhood in Galveston, Texas where he assisted his father in making shoes by hand. Following high school, Nito was a member of the Texas National Guard, 36th Division, for three years. He also served his country during WWII as Naval Petty Officer 2nd Class on the aircraft carrier, USS Kula Gulf in the Asiatic Pacific. Nito was a butcher by trade and began his career in the meat business with High Grade Packing Company of Galveston. Nito is a long time resident of Texas City and a member of Landmark Baptist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir. He was also a member of VFW Hall Post 6378 of Dickinson, Texas and was their Rifle Squadron Commander for 18 years. In addition, Nito has been a member of the Elk's Mainland Lodge #2141 for 20 years. Nito loved to dance and won many contests in his younger years. Even in his 80's, people stopped dancing to watch his fancy steps. Nito liked being around people and always had an endless number of jokes to tell.
Nito is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy Lee Chimene of 32 years, and his son, Tony. Survivors include his daughter Kathryn Lindsey and husband Lloyd of Santa Fe, Linda Thomas and husband David of Texas City, Lisa Breland of Stafford, Virginia, Leah Preslar and husband Kevin of Texas City. He is also survived by his grandchildren Stacy Lindsey Rummage, Brittany Lindsey, Anthony and Andrea Thomas, Michelle Breland, Christopher D'Ascenzo, and Joshua and Jeremy Loker. He is further survived by his sisters Blanche Fleming of Pasadena, Cira D'Ascenzo; and brother, Austin D'Ascenzo, both of Galveston; and sister-in-law Leah D'Ascenzo of Texas City.
Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, September 22, 2004, at Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Texas City. A funeral service to celebrate and honor Nito's life will follow visitation at his church at 10 a.m. with Pastor Carl Fitzgerald officiating. Following the service, Nito will be laid to rest at Calvary cemetery in Galveston.
Pallbearers will be Lloyd Lindsey, David and Anthony Thomas, Kevin Preslar, Christopher D'Ascenzo, and special nephew, Alton Chandler.
Our family wishes to extended special thanks to Cindylea McAllister of Hospice and Nurse Aaron Barbin for their loving kindness and endless support, and to Jay Cantu for singing from his heart the songs our daddy so loved. Daddy, here we are at a place where we let go of each other's hand. Our souls are connected, and I carry you with me in all the places that I go. You will be no further than my heart, and I will always love you.
