Bessie Allene Allen Whorton
RULE, TEXAS - Bessie Allene Allen Whorton, 86, of Rule, died on August 11, 2004, at a local nursing home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 14, 2004, at the First Baptist Church in Rule. Burial will follow in Rule cemetery under the direction of McCauley-Robison Funeral Home.
Allene Whorton was born in Jud on July 18, 1918, to Joseph Washington and Alma Ida Detta Allen. She attended schools in Jud, Shawnee, Oklahoma and Dallas. She married
Elbert Benjamin (E.B.) Whorton Sr. on February 5, 1938, in Fort Worth, returning to Rule. E.B. preceded her in death on July 17, 1994, just one day shy of their 76th wedding anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Whorton owned and operated the Tower Drive Inn Theater in Rule, the oldest continuously family-run drive in theater in the state, since the early 1950’s. After his death, Allene and a son, Jackie, continued the family business until recently.
Mrs. Whorton was a well-known local good Samaritan, ever quick to help people in their time of need. She received the Yellow Rose of Texas Certificate of Honor from Governor Ann Richards. She was a member of the Eastern Star and Bridge Clubs. She was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church.
She is survived by her four children, Elbert Benjamin Whorton, Jr., PhD. and wife Evangeline of Galveston, Robert Allen Whorton and wife Andrea of Sherman, Mary Katherine Whorton Morris of Abilene and Jack Alston Whorton and wife Ella Daye of Rule; two sisters, Ione Ingalsbe and husband Reed of Abilene and Ruth Larned and husband Dee of Haskell; and two brothers, Loyd Allen and wife Leah of Rule and Grady Allen and wife Jean of Wolfforth; five grandchildren, Lalise Loessin Whorton Mason and husband Greg of Houston, Anna Linae Whorton Schenecker and husband Edmund of Castroville, Robert Allen Whorton Jr. of Rule, Emily Suzanne Whorton of Dallas and Nathan (Chip) Morris II of Abilene; and one great-grandson Robert Allen Whorton III of Rule.

TEXAS CITY - Johnnie Mae Wolfe, 78, passed away Monday, August 9, 2004, at Mainland Medical Center in Texas City. Mrs. Wolfe was born September 16, 1925, in Orangefield, Texas to Stanford and Willie Mae Chesson. She was a resident of Texas City; she was the secretary for First Presbyterian Church in Texas City; she was an elder in the church; a member of Retired American Persons; a member of the Senior Citizens Council; a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 8248 in LaMarque; and member of the Grandmother’s Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Wolfe, Sr.; her son James (Bill) Wolfe, Jr.; and her brother, Stanford Chesson, Sr.
Mrs. Wolfe is survived by her two daughters, Kathryn A. Lindsey and her husband Lloyd of Santa Fe, Texas and Debbie L. Ochoa and her husband Phil of Houston, Texas; her son, George Wolfe and his wife Laura of La Marque, Texas; her daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Wolfe of Friendswood, Texas; her sister, Ernestine Dawson of Beaumont, Texas; her brother, Gene Chesson of Beaumont, Texas; and thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation for friends and family will be Friday, August 13, 2004, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the James Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque. Funeral service will be Saturday, August 14, 2004, at 10 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church, 1112- 7th Street N., in Texas City, with Rev. Kathy Morton officiating. Internment will follow at Forest Park East cemetery in Webster, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Tom Applegath, Mark Scotchmer, George Van Etten, Donald Moon, Erling Kalsnes, Lonnie Mathesen, David Trimble, and Eddie Sanderson.

GALVESTON - On Sunday morning the 8th of August 2004, Karl Thomas Boysen passed from this life to the Kingdom of the Lord. Karl was born on January 20, 1959. He attended Travis Elementary School, Lovenberg Junior High and was a 1976 graduate of Ball High School. Karl attended Galveston College, Sam Houston State University and graduated from the University of Houston Clear Lake with a B.A. in Accounting and continued attending the U of H always wanting to improve himself.
He was a life long member of First Lutheran Church, served as a deacon, on the Vestry, Octoberfest Committee and the Men‚s Club. He was also active in his youth as a Cub Scout, Boy Scout and played and coached Little League Baseball. He was an active member of Galveston Chapter Order of the DeMolay, active Member and Past Master of Tucker Lodge #297 A.F. & A.M., serving as Treasurer. He also was a member of the 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, Valley of Galveston, active Member of El Mina Shrine, serving as Director, Drum and Bugle Corps member and Model T Club and member of Mizpah Chapter #2 Order of the Eastern Star.
He was preceded in death by his parents Dora and Bob Boysen.
Karl leaves behind two brothers Robert O. Boysen and his wife Theresa and John E. Boysen and his wife Shereen; nieces and nephews, Robert Boysen, Jr. and his wife Justina, Erica Richey and husband Nathan, Tiffany Boysen, John Boysen, Jr. and Sarah Boysen. Karl also left behind three great-nieces Katelynn Boysen, Naomi Boysen and Caroline Boysen; Godmother Joyce Ekelund and devoted Uncle Oscar Ekelund.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 12, 2004 at J. Levy & Bro. Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. A Masonic Service will be held at 7p.m.. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 13, 2004 at 10a.m. at First Lutheran Church, with Pastor Doug Guthier officiating. Interment will follow at Oleander cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Robert Boysen, Jr, Nathan Richey, Joseph Gillane, Scott Muraca, Jr., Dan Martin and Bill Hare. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Galveston Masonic Bodies and members of First Lutheran Church Men‚s Club.

CRYSTAL BEACH - Mrs. Jan Bridwell, 62, of Crystal Beach, Texas died on Monday, August 9, 2004, in Shreveport. Louisiana, following a brief illness.
A memorial service is to be held on Saturday, August 14, 2004, at 2 p.m. in Crystal Beach at Sandy Shores, in front of Connie Hailey's beachfront home.
Jan is remembered as a lovely, feminine lady who enjoyed beautiful clothes and shopping with her friends. She loved traveling with friends and family, especially to Mexico, and most recently, cruising the Panama Canal with her husband, Pat. She fulfilled her lifelong dream of retiring at the beach, joining her close friends, when she and her husband permanently relocated to Crystal Beach three years ago.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 42 years, Pat; her daughter, Melissa and her husband, Kerry; and her granddaughter, Morgan.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

Emma was born January 22, 1906 to Thomas And Susie Lavender Prophet in Sidon, Mississippi. Graduating from high school in 1924, she earned her nursing license. She had been employed as a nurse at UTMB retiring in 1975 after 30 plus years of dedicated service. She was a member of Westminister Presbyterian Church.

HOUSTON - Frank Annweiler was born January 19, 1941, in Galveston, Texas to Lee Roy Frank Annweiler, Sr. and Dorothy Schutte Annweiler and passed away July 31, 2004, surrounded by his loving family. He graduated from Ball High School in 1958 and Texas Lutheran University in 1961. Frank moved to Houston in 1965, and worked as an employee of Union Carbide and Triplex, Inc., from where he retired. He then taught math at Bonnett Intermediate and Lutheran South Academy before retiring again in 2003.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his beloved wife and high school sweetheart, Pat Bullinger Annweiler; their daughter Suzie Annweiler Wilson and her husband Mark Wilson; and granddaughters Sydney, Claire and Erin Wilson all of Houston; He was an active member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
A visitation will be 6- 8 p.m., Wednesday, August 4, 2004, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 18220 Upper Bay Rd., Nassau Bay, TX 77058.
